It's really big, it's very nice, and they just run a great club. The club, which opened in 1971, is now known as the Queen City Racquet & Fitness Club as it added a large fitness center, which includes Nautilus machines, free weights, a cardio room, aerobics, and spinning. Queen City's 13 indoor courts is probably second to none in the area, while it's seven outdoor clay courts is great too. Both the indoor and outdoor courts are often home to many tournaments including national and top regional junior events. In 2003 they added Platform Tennis courts (see photos), which is for the Platform Tennis game that is apparently a mix between tennis and racquetball. Although I've never played, I know people who have, and they enjoyed it. Platform tennis is one of the amenities that sets this club apart from most in the area. Queen City has long had a strong tennis program for both juniors and adults. While many of the top juniors in the area now play at Harper's Point or Five Seasons, Queen City has a history of developing top players and continues to run quality programs (clinics, camps, league play, private instruction) for both juniors and adults. I've played in and watched my older brother in many tournaments at Queen City, and the only real criticism I have is the tinted windows that make it seem dark outside (which of course is an extremely minute detail). The 180,000 square foot club also has indoor courts for racquetball and squash, a gym for basketball and volleyball, and an outdoor heated Olympic size pool. Also inside around the main lobby is a great snack bar/café, rooms for ping pong and pool, and nice locker rooms too. Although there has been lots of competition from Harper's over the years, and recently Five Seasons too, the Queen City Racquet Club continues to run successfully and is a great place for tennis and a lot more.

Originally, one of the biggest perks of the Cincy Y membership was that it allowed you to use all Cincinnati branches. Now, you can go to any Ohio YMCA with your membership! Way to go! I know the membership pricing varies based on economic conditions, and while the Y certainly isn't the cheapest option, I will say they offer a lot of bang for your buck if you are willing to take advantage. Pools and saunas at most locations, fitness classes offered at all of them and at varying times, ActiveTrax to customize your fitness regime, weight rooms, workout facilities, personal coaching, and various free training programs from weight loss to competitive running to healthy eating make the YMCA not just a weight room, but a comprehensive facility for better living. I will say that while the Y offers a wonderful program for synchronized and competitive swimming, it wreaks havoc on the pool availability schedule. During the school year, expect the pool to be occupied whenever the children can be there. Even with 3 pools available at the Powel Crosley, it is difficult to discern from the schedule when the pool is open to the public. The good news? You can always call and talk to a human being.

The Wall2Wall Sports Complex in Mason has an arcade, a large concession stand with plenty of tables and chairs, softball (35 and 45 mph) and baseball (35, 45, 55, and 65 mph) batting cages, and it also hosts lacrosse, ultimate Frisbee, dodge ball, and flag football events and opportunities, but soccer is really what it's all about. Wall2Wall has three indoor soccer fields, two which are regulation size and one that is a lot smaller. I had several friends in high school who played soccer, a few of which even play Division I NCAA soccer now, and they all played at Wall2Wall during the winter. They have the best facilities around, and they offer great high school-level, adult, and youth leagues (11v11, 8v8, 7v7, 6v6) during the winter and summer, as well as the All Star Soccer Academy youth camps and the Sunday Coed league (2 girls + 3 guys + goalie) during the summer. The fields are in great shape, and the place really is wall to wall soccer as they have Wallbangers (like Fat Head posters) of top footballers Wayne Rooney, Thierry Henry, and Ronaldinho, among others throughout the complex. This weekend they will be holding the annual David Fulcher All Pro Youth Football Camp, while in August, Major League Lacrosse star Joe Walters will run a lacrosse camp. Wall2Wall is also a great place for a birthday party, and it is also the home of the Ignition premier sports-specific training program and the Tristate Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center. Wall2Wall clearly isn't just about soccer, as they offer so many other great sports and games. If you are looking to play indoor soccer, however, than this is definitely the best place around.
