If all the shops were full, I can imagine this would be a favorite spot of mine. As is, even with the couple boutiques in business right now, it is still pretty tempting to make the drive. It's situated like an actual little village. All the shops are more like wooden cabins than your typical storefronts. Now for the part they don't warn you about... Pickup day arrives. I go to the Schertz warehouse feeling confident and slightly smug. Rookie mistake. I did not bring a dolly. I assumed someone would load it for me. Friends... this is not that kind of place. This is a self-help warehouse. Here's how it works: * Every item has a barcode * You stand in a long line just to get into the warehouse * Once your winning barcode is scanned and verified, you're released into the wild to find your item And when I say the warehouse is massive -- I mean MASSIVE. From tiny packages to full-size refrigerators. It took me a minute (okay, several minutes) to figure out the system. I'm also one of those people who avoids asking for help unless absolutely necessary, so naturally I learned by wandering around like a confused Costco shopper. Meanwhile, seasoned MAC.BID pros were cruising by with dollies stacked high, looking like they'd trained for this moment. I, on the other hand, had... my arms. I somehow managed to wrestle my giant box to checkout, where your barcode is scanned again, and then -- freedom. Victory. Mild sweat. Final verdict? This is an experience I had with ExtraSpace Storage at 9482 FM1518. We've been a tenant on and off…read morefor about a year since it was LockAway and have been satisfied after meeting the site manager; even with the shaky transition. The site manager, Lyle C, were helpful, pleasant and efficient; impressive feet for such a young gentleman. Though I had a few issues with the unit (leaking metal roof, outlet malfunction, inability to open the front gate remotely, and floor defects), Lyle was quick to troubleshoot and got all the issues taken care of in a very timely manner and immediately took care of 3 items; will update on the last item as time progresses. The storage units have withstand the time since LockAway but still relatively sturdy. The new management is showing promise; they have been enforcing policies, disallowing certain suspicious and dangerous activities that the previous tenants have been doing prior to the changeover. They have also installed extra LED night lights, which made the location feel much more secure. Storage is always monitored by cameras; though there were some gate issues previously, it has recently been fixed as well. Because of the convenience of the location, how well-lit and monitored, enhanced by site manager Lyle's great leadership, we will continue stay customers for now. Keep up the good work ExtraSpace FM1518 and Lyle!
