I need to share the wonderful interaction my husband and I had at Tricounties Bank Hilltop with Branch Manager, Javier Alvarado. We had inadvertently called a scam number for You Tube. The scammers took us through a long process during which time they copied my laptop bank information making it appear they deposited money into my account. Husband and I went into the bank and were immediately helped by Javier. He did a fantastic job of explaining to us how close we came to being scam victims and how to identify and not fall for such hoaxes. I have been banking with T.C. for personal and business for about 25 years. Finally I'm taking the time to write and let people know my experience has been great. Carolyn and Gavin have been awesome. The rest of the employees on the teller line also have been great. Like any other bank there can be small hiccup's long the way BUT I have to say T.C has always delt with me fairly, and come to a great fast resolution. tcbk as Keystone Kops Jan 6, 2024 Tri-Counties Bank opened an account for me in Feb-2023, and even set up direct deposit for me to receive my Soc Sec pension check. But a critical question they never asked me is if I had a Soc Sec Payee, which I do. It turns out that without that information it's against their policy to deposit a check with two names on it into an account with only one name on it. So they did open my account with only my name on it, and for the next 9 months they were receiving and depositing Soc Sec checks with both my name and my payee's name on it, seemingly in contradiction to their own policy. Yet no one ever caught this. Furthermore, since Feb-2023, I've made Many phone calls to their service center. Each time their representative asked me for the same identifying information, including whether "someone else" was on my account. The first dozen times, I Iiterally said: "My payee's name Gloria Should Be on the account too." Yet NONE of them apparently noticed that their was no payee on my account, or else they just never told me about it. Because these exchanges seemed so weird, I started giving them increasingly ambiguous answers to that same question but it raised no red flag for any of them. The event that has resulted in a personal calamity for me started when I ordered a box of paper checks around Dec-02-2023. To make a long story short, the checks got lost in the mail but I didn't realize there was a problem until after Christmas. That's when this bank made me open a whole new account with a new account number, and that's when they Finally WOKE UP to Their blunder on Jan-04-2024, when I most needed my pension check to pay my rent and buy food. That is when they told me that the only way that I could get my money is to have my 73 year old payee make the 3 hour road trip from Vallejo just to appear in their branch to put her signature on a form, only to turn around for the 3 hour road trip back home. And they told me that there is NO Way that I could get my money now without my payee making a physical appearance in their branch. So here I am, a 74 year old disabled retiree with a bad heart, literally stranded by my bank in total destitution. I really have no way to even buy food today, and this bank is expecting me to Fix THEIR Repeated Incompetence regarding THEIR Repeated Blunders by me somehow coercing an old woman to undertake an arduous 6+ hour road trip. If this bank just had some way of sending an email confirming that I did receive those new checks after 10 days or so, I wouldn't even be writing this complaint now because I would've had time to Fix Their Mess before it got me cornered now where I am now literally on the Brink of Starvation. If and when I do get my money from Tri-Counties Bank, you can be sure that I will somehow find another bank ASAP. These people put up a good front of being your small town bank with friendly and personal service. But behind that veneer is the banking equivalent of The Mickey Mouse Club. read more

Would be a multiple minus rating if possible. This rating is for the branch on Hilltop Drive. Pulled up to the drive-up teller, placed my items in the canister (cashing a check only), sent it through and then after waiting several minutes for an acknowledgement that never came, pressed the "call" button. Another couple of minutes passed and I was contacted and able to state my request to cash my check. I took a look at the time and it was 2:45. Several cars had lined up behind me at this point. After another 10 minutes or so, cars in the line behind me began leaving. Eventually only 1 car was left. At 3:30 the canister was returned to me. Are you kidding? Over 45 minutes to cash a check? Definitely not acceptable and very poor business practice at best. I am eriously considering a change to another bank and it's very sad as I have been a customer with this bank for a considerably long time. read more

Horrible bank! They downgraded their website to the point it no longer works. They acknowledge this by removing the email address from their contact page and tell you when you call to expect delays due to high call volumes. I wonder why they're having high call volumes??? When you call the 800 number you are on hold for a VERY long time and when you finally get a person they're rude and unhelpful and try to phish for personal info. 22 years of banking with Tri Counties Bank. I get screwed by the bank and Walmart. bought several things online. Never got them. Tried to get my money back. Bank was absolutely useless. Very unhelpful girl name d v a n g i e. Could not understand the concept. I did not get a. I did not get a paper receipt on the website. All I got was a number. But that wasn't good enough for her and turned down my request for a refund. So now Walmart has my 25 plus dollars. And no merchandise. Bank was less than useless. I guess 22 years of loyal Devotion to a bank means nothing in 2020. I hope it goes just some bankers retirement fund LOL. Now I'm looking for a different bank not a corporate giant like b of a or Tri Counties or Wells Fargo. I guess they would rather open more branches and get those big government loans. I can't tell you how happy I've been with my service at Tri Counties Bank, specifically the hilltop and Palo Cedro locations. The staff is kind, patient, and always able to take care of my banking needs quickly and easily. I had begrudgingly banked with Wells Fargo for years and then finally made the switch to Tri Counties last year and couldn't be happier. I highly recommend them. read more

There are three things that are important to me regarding banking and Tri County's Bank has them all. First and foremost, my online banking is amazing. Their website is top notch. It's easy to navigate and does everything that I need it to do and more. In addition, if I'm looking for some guidance, their online support number is very accessible and knowledgeable. Having the right products and rates is important to me also and there's not a banking product that I have needed that Tri Counties Bank does not have and their rates are extremely competitive. Most importantly when I have a problem personalize service is a must. My banker, Joey Cullis, solves any and all problems that I have with banking and and goes above and beyond what my expectations are. He also provides me with recommendations on how I can improve my bottom line profits in my State Farm Insurance business and my multiple single-family and multiunit rental properties. Worst bank ever! We were with NVB many many years until Tri Counties bought them out. We've had to call them on so many mistakes and incompetencies it's ridiculous. We moved all of our accounts to Chase and ate extremely pleased with their services. But we still have an small account that we have to have there and it's shocking how incompetent these people are- and as someone also stated it's crazy trying to get ahold of anyone there to correct their mistakes! read more

Earlier I provided a review on Tri Counties Bank. Because of my lastbpost, I received a call from a company representative. I explained my experience with my latest transactions. After explaining what happetned, I was told it was because I had not filed with the card company I was traveling. Hmmm. I can understand that, but this representative could not explain why everyone I spoke with said my card was good to be used and no one told me prior that I had not filed a trip notice. I have 2 corporate accounts at Tri Counties by default. We were with North Valley Bank and they were bought out. I find the service and follow-up by the Tri Counties personnel second to none. They seem like family and seem truly interested in the questions we have. They treat you like you are appreciated and contribute to their well being. My only suggestion for improvement would be a more robust online alert system. read more

I'll give the bank 2 stars because the staff are kind and show good customer support. The bank itself is horrid! I started out with North Valley Bank because it was the only bank in Shasta Lake and had pretty good support. I mostly use online banking, which was a little primitive at NVB but doable. I was excited about the merger with Tri-counties because I figured the new online banking would look and feel a lot better. To my surprise the online banking looked and felt just about the same, only it was a little harder to navigate. A few months went by and the online banking "upgraded." The upgrade incorporated security questions. I hate security questions because I either can't remember the answers I picked or I can't think of an answer to begin with; sure you have 20 or so questions to choose from, but you have to pick 5 of those 20 and who in their right mind can remember what their favorite candy is? To make matters worse every 2-3 times I log in I am asked one of my security questions. After three tries of not spelling or remembering the password correctly I get locked out and have to spend 18 minutes on the phone waiting for an operator to unlock my account. Can't tri counties just put up a security picture like every one else, I hate security questions! I'm moving to a new bank/credit union. Update: 12/01/2017 -- I've been too busy to change banks, like I had stated previously, but for that reason I can say that Tri-Counties has improved their service. Their ATM's are now pretty cool and their online system, though archaic, is significantly less annoying. They are an okay bank, but I think I will explore more options soon. read more

Thoroughly disgusted. They did not make the change I requested, now my checks are floating around and no one knows where. But I pay the penalty for their error. I have to close my account and redo all my online banking accounts. You are right, I will close my account but will not go back to Tri- Counties. The main office treated me like this is my problem when it was their error that caused this mess! read more

I have no complaints about Tri-Counties Bank except one: It is the end of 2017 and they still do not support Apple Pay and apparently have no plans to implement it soon. Half the people I speak with there haven't even heard of it. This alone outweighs all of the good experiences I have had, and I finally jumped ship because I'm tired of waiting for the added security and convenience. Hooray for credit unions! read more

I loved doing banking in Ferndale with NVB. Then Tri Counties Bank bought them out and it was a disaster from the beginning. Like any merger or buyout, they always say it's to provide better service, but what it really means is that they can reduce competition and increase fees. Every account we had with NVB had new or increased fees with Tri Counties. A two year IRA account that was earning a whopping .25% interest rate is now going to cost $15 a year to maintain. So I'm going to end up paying them to use my money for two years. We've already moved our savings, personal and business checking away from them, and as soon as the CD matures it's getting moved too. Oh, and they want to charge $20 to do that. I also have my mortgage with them, and I wish it was easy to move that. I hate that I'm paying this company $1290 every month. read more

If I could give Tri Counties negative stars, I would. I had no trouble with North Valley for all the years I dealt with them, but I've had nothing but grief since Tri Counties bought them out. The employees there are completely incompetent and rude, and always try to blame the customer for their mistakes. I can't even list all the screw ups here, so I'll just describe the most recent, which is the last straw for me. North Valley online bill pay was a breeze, but after Tri Counties took over, I was only able to pay ONE bill online, and they took so long to pay that one, the company kept calling me because their payment was weeks late. So I decided to order new checks and go back to manually paying my bills. I have two accounts, one interest bearing, and one non-interest bearing which I use for paying bills. (I set this up after bogus charges appeared on my debit card six years ago.) Tri Counties sent me checks for the wrong account, resulting in a bounced check--the first bounced check I've had in six years. And of course, they're now deducted fees for "insufficient funds" even though, with North Valley, I had overdraft protection that would just take the funds from the other account if I made a mistake--not that I ever did, until these fools messed me up. So now I have to go through telephone torture AGAIN in order to straighten this mess out. I'm done. I'm looking for a new bank tomorrow. I'm seriously ill, and I just don't have the strength to struggle over every little thing with this horrible excuse for a bank. It's just not worth the trouble. read more

When Tri Counties took over North Valley, the transfer service was lousy. Their fees are the highest out there & found it elsewhere for free (they said no one banked for free anymore on a business). All NVB customers were cut off unannounced from their ATM cards when the transfer took place & I happened to be on an out of state vacation (disaster). Took 2 1/2 weeks for them to allow online service. They advised that they are way understaffed which seems to hold true. I've never changed banks other than a location change but am moving now. Never bank with Tri Counites. read more

Tri Counties has totally lost my business and respect. For 3 months in a row they declined my card to pay a monthly bill only to push it through 23 days later. When I called to ask why the card was declined the customer service lady told me very condescendingly that it was pushed through when I sufficient funds. I must say I always thought that $1000 was more than enough to cover a $100, but hey I am old school and not up to date on the new math. So after 3 months I pay off the bill completely only to have the bank once again push through another payment. Thanks to the bank I have over paid the merchant by $200. When I asked the merchant for a refund they informed me to go to the bank. I did. TCBK will do nothing as I have done business with the merchant and cannot provide the receipts for the transactions. If you are looking for a trustworthy bank you can rely on, keep looking cause this isn't the bank for that. I am out $200 with no chance of recovery. read more
