    a pepperoni pizza
    DJ M.

It is amazing how I can get hooked on one thing and think it is the best I will ever have and then venture no further to try some place else, do you do this too or is it just me? Well, thanks to Yelp, I have learned to spread my wings and to try new places, even places that I have walked past many times and never gave them a chance. For many years we have been going to a local family owned pizzeria, Casanova's, which has very good pizza and Italian dishes, http://www.yelp.com/biz/casanovas-kitchen-trevose and I thought they had the very best pizza that money could buy. Then one day I was at the Reading Terminal Market http://www.yelp.com/biz/reading-terminal-market-philadelphia?rpp=40&sort_by=total_desc and I could not resist a slice of the hot pepperoni pizza with oregano and garlic from by george and I thought I had died and gone to heaven and to date, this is the best pizza I have ever had. Http://www.yelp.com/biz/by-george-philadelphia?rpp=40&sort_by=total_desc So since that wonderful day, I have been trying different pizza places, the saddest part of this story is Trevose Pizza is two minutes from my house and right in a shopping center that I frequent. After dropping off clothes at my dry cleaners, I decided to finally check them out. They advertise old Naples style pizza and have been a family run business since 1976, when entering their shop a huge menu is almost wall sized and posted above rows of booths and tables. I noticed most people would go directly to the counter and order it to go, although a scattered few did order to dine in. Everything that I saw is served on paper plates, even to go, unless you are ordering whole pies. The first open glass enclosed case had a variety of topped gourmet pizzas and tomato pies with rather thick crusts and my heart dropped, although they did look delicious and they were loaded with fresh toppings and ready to be baked, I love a thin crust pizza. When it was my turn to order, I first said these are beautiful, but do you have any with a thin crust and he pointed to the last glass enclosed area. Yippee, they looked perfect and were topped with sauce and cheese and ready to be topped with anything your heart desired and placed into the hot oven to be baked. I ordered a pepperoni with oregano and garlic and the very hot pie was then placed into a box for me to carry out. Silly me could not wait until I even got out the door, I was starving and craving that first bite, which sizzled on my tongue and burned a bit, but oh my heavens was it ever good. Greasy pepperoni on very stringy melted mozzarella cheese perfectly seasoned with garlic and spice. It was one teeny tiny slight notch below by george's pizza, but not by much and they are only two minutes away compared to 20-30 minutes. They offer so much more, but did not have any take out menus and said maybe we will have some soon. Two men were running the shop, one spoke fairly good English but had to translate everything to his co-worker. After all of these years of passing by this shop I am so glad that I finally checked them out! They do not have a website and no take out menus, but I was able to find this menu on line http://philadelphia.menupages.com/restaurants/trevose-pizza/menu as you can see they offer appetizers, Italian dishes and I am very anxious to try their gourmet panini's on homemade focaccia bread. I know for a fact I will return for more pizzas and to also taste test the stromboli's and calzones. Don't walk past this shop. Garlic, grease and pepperoni, oh yum! 4.5 stars

    Trevose Pizza always excellent!!

If it were just for friendliness, this place would have all five stars, but sadly I barely can…read morerate them the two I'm giving them. This place has me questioning, as if I hadn't already - the TikTok influencers, because this place really was not worthy of the praise TikTok has given it. We are headed over to Trevose on the advice of TikTok (hanging my head in shame) to grab a cheesesteak and a slice. The pizza is boasted to be baked on a stone. I'm not sure if that is what caused it to be what it was. It felt like it couldn't decide what it wanted to be.. too thin it to rise into that soft pillowy chew, yet not quite crisp enough to stand proudly on its own. It was the middle child of pizza doughs. Quiet, polite, and easy to over look. The sauce. It was sauce. Not quite to my palate. It was very sweet and reminiscent of Hunts canned sauce. Now the pepperoni, the pepperoni was on point the perfect crispy curly edges with just the right amount of grease puddled within. Onto the cheese steak. When you're talking about Philly steaks it really isn't hard to go wrong but sometimes you have to understand too much of a good thing - is too much of a good thing. There was way too much cheese to the ratio of meat, the meat was chopped way too much, and the gloppy mess was more than the roll could hold. As I'm writing this, I have a little bit of guilt because the guy behind the counter was a true gem super happy, proud and welcoming. If the food had half of his spirit of this guy, this could've easily been a 4 Star place. So next time you're scrolling the ol ticky-tocky. Try and think about why the influencers rave so high. Does it look staged and filmed? What do they have to gain by making that video? Would you really give a bad review to someone giving you a free lunch?

There is a good amount of parking out front and plenty of seating inside. The inside is pretty nice, simple and clean. Besides the door needing a cleaning, the bathroom was in tip-top shape . The staff was prompt and helpful on both of my recent visits. On both occasions I ordered slices to eat in house. The Sunday slice options seemed limited compared to when I stopped by during the week. I'm not normally a slice purchaser because I hate to think about how long they've been out, but honestly these pies looked fresh and tasty so I took a chance! The plain cheese was delicious, bit of a sweeter sauce, nice flavor, crispy doughy sauce and just the right amount of cheese. The Brooklyn slice was on point as well. Tasty sauce, fresh perfectly portioned mozzarella and fresh basil. My first trip with two plain slices and a bottle of water was $7.15, second with the three slices and bottle of water came to $11.63. All things being equal that's not a terrible price for a lunch and the slices were large portions. I'd compare the pizza to a Poppi's in Langhorne. It's worth repeating. I can't speak for their other offerings, but I was digging the pizza from here.

My family and I stopped in this shop for a late Friday evening dinner. We found parking close to…read morethe front in the strip mall parking lot. We sat in the room adjacent to the takeout area which had plenty of tables and booths. In my humble opinion the bathroom and the room we ate in could use some fresh paint on the walls and better lighting. They must not entertain often because we were the only people in there besides a couple. The staff was nice and very busy juggling phone orders while helping us. We put in an order for buffalo wings, a small tomato pie and a chicken caesar wrap. The food came out pretty quick. The wrap was simple and nothing special as well as the fries that came with it. The wings were medium sized, appeared to have been freezer burned (dark spots), and were ok. The hot sauce was cut with butter and tasty. On to the Tomato pie, if you like your pie with chunks of San Marzano's and on the sweeter side you'll love it. The crust was typical for the style - not too thin or thick, crispy and the slices were almost as straight as an arrow. Cheese was minimal and I didn't detect much in the way of extras like garlic or oil. Overall, the pie was pretty simple with chunked and pureed San Marzano's, cheese and crust. My son devoured half of it and approved. I'm giving them 4 stars/great based on the tomato pie. The rest of the food experience and ambiance was just ok. Their menu has a lot of items to explore like pasta dishes, sandwiches and their regular pizza so another trip may happen when I'm in the area again. The staff was friendly and that's always appreciated. Thanks guys!

It's been a minute since our last meal at Jersey's Tomato Pie & Bistro; nine years to be precise…read more What was true last time, remains on point - the tomato pie is true to its name, "Trenton," that capital city across the Delaware River that has its own unique take on tomato pie. Where Philadelphia sees the breed as an "upside down" pie covered in thick heavy red marzano blanket, Central Jersey sees it as mozzarella cheese under chunky rich tomato distributed across the underneath cheese, but leaving much exposed to a return visit to the oven after the final partial layer of Marzanos in thrown on top for the final burn. All of which means these pies are crisp, firm and delicious. We added sweet Italian sausage for the win. True, Trenton Pies are an acquired taste, but once having acquired it, it has become my favorite pizza for decades. Jersey's is a solid representation of the genre. We also ordered a cheesesteak special (green pepper, onion, mozza & sauce on oven toasted torpedo) which was also excellent. The one noticeable issue was the obvious lack of heat in the house. We intended to eat in their dining room and were granted permission. We soon realized why there was no one else dining in. The room was cold and somewhat rundown. We changed our minds, and opted for takeout. The kitchen/cashier room was likewise unheated but for the working ovens. Not sure what the story is about heat, but hope it is only temporary. Service was fine, and Guillermo a talented interactive chef. Prices are reasonable in these times of inflationary restaurant prices.
