Extremely disappointed. After some careful research I chose Trevor Sorbie Brighton to colour my hair as it had some great write-ups and styled itself as a high-end salon. I would not recommend this salon to anyone! The prices are very high (I paid well over £100 for my colour, and later on £60 for a cut - and deliberately paid extra to get experienced staff to do it.)
The salon itself is very cramped, which doesn't make it feel like a high-end experience - I got dye flicked onto my hair by the hairdresser working on the lady sat next to me! It's pretty shabby looking too, with scuffed walls, peeling paint and a generally tired look. There is no mobile signal in the downstairs room, so no browsing the internet on your phone! There is wifi, but no-one mentioned this to me or offered me the password, and eventually after an hour I had to get up and ask someone for it. Again, this wouldn't be a problem in Supercuts but this is supposed to be a high-end salon.
The staff were uncommunicative and impatient, and even though I mentioned that this was my first time getting my hair coloured, they did not talk me through the colouring process or tell me what they were doing to my hair at the time. I was led in silence from the mirror to the sink, back and forth, and they did various things to my hair in total silence. I presume they were adding and rinsing dye, toner and conditioner etc. but it felt really weird to me that they didn't talk me through the process.
Also kind of weirdly, no-one gave me any advice about aftercare for my newly coloured hair! I honestly couldn't have been clearer to staff that this was my first time with brightly coloured hair. I'd read online that there was a whooole load of aftercare and maintenance to know about - e.g I shouldn't use hair straighteners, I shouldn't wash my hair too much, and I should use special shampoo. None of this was mentioned to me! I would think it's kind of important that a client knows exactly how to care for and maintain their new colour? No?
At various points my hairdresser would just spin my chair around to face her so she could cut bits of my hair - but she never gave any warning that she was about to do so. She'd just grab my chair and spin me round to continue working in silence! It is really jolting to just be spun around with no warning when you're reading a magazine or sipping a coffee or whatever!
The hairdresser also did not check in with me AT ALL while she was cutting my hair. She just did her own thing and then said "done, finished!" It was not the cut I had hoped for, and was a lot shorter than I'd asked for. Even at Supercuts they'll check in from time to time to ask whether the length is looking okay!
Then the hairdresser tried to sell me an expensive product for my hair, but couldn't tell me how it worked or what exactly it did. I was really surprised that a senior member of staff had such poor product knowledge, and slightly offended that she was trying to sell me something without even knowing what it was. I mean c'mon!
Finally, there was a problem with my colour. It didn't come out the right shade at all, and I had been very clear about what I wanted (I even bought pictures!) The staff seemed weirdly unapproachable and unwilling to help with this. Maybe they were just really busy, but I'd paid a lot of money for this! I felt like I was seriously inconveniencing them by mentioning that the colour did not match the shade I'd asked for. My colourist said very dismissively that it could be fixed later. But when? By who?! And would I have to pay?! Who knows - nobody told me, or booked me in for another session or said anything about it at all! So I paid and left, feeling really unhappy with my experience.
I will definitely not be going back there again. Would absolutely not recommend this salon to anyone. read more
