One of the very first things I noticed about this local business is the fact that they included pronouns of all their instructors directly next to the class name. I thought that was so inclusive and awesome...and to be honest, I have never seen it before in any fitness or yoga class I've ever attended. It says so much to me about their values as a studio. I attended the trauma informed yoga class with Sarah via ZOOM. I really appreciated how easy the studio made it for me to find the link and that the process was seamless. Another thing that attracted me to the studio was that I was astounded with the diversity of experience, education, and the focus on mental and spiritual health that their website explained for instructors. For example, Sarah is a body positive advocate that doesn't believe in diet culture or fatphobia. She has a focus on trauma informed practices and making yoga accessible to all bodies. Her bio online says she has worked with many different organizations as a licensed master social worker. It makes a huge difference when the folks who teach trauma yoga classes actually know what they are doing versus trying to implement something they read in a book. Overall, I had a wonderful experience with the studio, even if my own computer issues did force me to have to log out early (if you're reading this Sarah, sorry about that!) If I find myself near music Row in Nashville I wouldn't hesitate to take another yoga class at this wonderful place.

I found this gym through a long search for trauma informed yoga classes. As of Feb 2022, this gym is the only gym/studio in town that offers these classes and they're once a month on Sunday afternoons. The teacher was good and the class was very chill and low intensity. To attend that class, I bought 14 days for $14. As a first year teacher, I try to get my money's worth out of things so I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and sign up for a class. The gym is a little hard to find your first time depending on where you're coming from, since it's underneath the yoga studio at street level. I came in, nervous and not knowing what to expect. I had signed up for Sweat with Jess, the owner. Sweat is a circuit class, but there's a lot of flexibility on what exercises you actually do. Jess led us in a warm up then explained the first circuit, but I must have looked like a deer in the headlights. She came up to me and quietly asked if I needed some help and I said yes please. She got me some small weights, demonstrated, then stayed with me until I got it. She was fantastic at checking in with me throughout the class in a quiet, respectful way. I've never met a class instructor like her, who was equal parts personable and professional. She was so encouraging, kind, funny, and clearly knew her stuff. It was a good workout, but I really appreciated that she told us to listen to our bodies and do what we needed. The class flew by too, which I have never said about a workout class. I've already signed up for my next class! I cant even put all the amazing things about this gym in a review, partially because my hands are sore from the kettlebell. I highly recommend checking out their website, they have a fantastic vision/ purpose.

This was my first time attending an Orangetheory class in Nashville, and unfortunately, it was a…read morefrustrating experience from the start. First, the parking situation is a nightmare. The turn-in to the lot is extremely narrow and my Jeep Wrangler barely made it through. If you drive anything larger than a sedan, be warned: it's a very tight squeeze and not easily accessible. Once inside, I had questions about parking and class logistics, but the front desk staff gave me pretty dry, short answers. I had signed up for a "Strength" class, but as someone new to OTF, I didn't realize there were two different formats running simultaneously - one focused on the treadmill, the other on weights. When I was asked where I wanted to go, I said "tread" without understanding that it meant I'd be on it for the entire class (I thought just a starting point/ warm up). About 30 minutes into the class, I realized I may have messed up. I went to the front desk for clarification, but no one was there. So, I approached the coach as quietly and respectfully as possible. I explained I had mistakenly joined the wrong group and asked to switch to the weight room, which still had an open spot (and where I was originally scheduled). The coach immediately dismissed my request, saying, "If I let you do it, I'd have to let everyone do it," even though I clearly didn't understand the class setup and was trying to correct an honest mistake. Also why would everyone else want to switch if they were signed up for treads? She seemed more annoyed than understanding, and didn't offer any real solution. I then asked if I could use the rower instead of running (I have bad knees and don't enjoy running), but again she refused, saying others might want to do the same. The rowers were empty. The only option she gave me was a stationary bike and by that point, I just felt completely dismissed and unwelcome. I come to the gym for the helpful guidance and support from the trainers and staff or else I would just use my apartment gym on my own. I minus well have today.

When I initially started I had fears of being intimidated or overwhelmed by the high intensity, but the coaches are so welcoming, and members are focusing on themselves. It is truly a judgment free zone. They have recurring events and giveaways to promote community. Such a big fan!
