No off cuts that would scare away those intimidated by some of the more rustic ingredients that are sometimes found in feijoada. There are beautiful ribs and delicious smokey flavor here and nothing to fear or peck at. The condiments. The chef from São Paulo has a real mastery of condiments. His salad dressing will literally turn you into a salad person even if you don't enjoy or typically opt for a salad. There is a little vinegar-based pepper condiment for the feijoada that perfectly balances the wieght of the dish. Don't sleep on any of the little liquids in plastic cups that are served to you. They are all gold. The few issues I've had are regarding communication to customers. I've driven to the restaurant during normal business hours THREE times in a row to find them closed. On two occasions they closed early because it was a slow day. This is especially odd because their hours are lunch-focused as opposed to dinner focused. This is common in Brazil but I feel a little out of place in the U.S. Being closed for dinner is not great, in my personal opinion. Another time they were closed for participating in a culture festival, which is wonderful, but when I called before coming there was no automated message or any type of communication at all informing me that they wouldn't be open that day. It was irritating. Despite the above, when you can make it in, call to make sure they are actually there, and your visit will be well worth it. They are a tiny, family-run kitchen, and I'm ok overlooking to bumps in the road for superb food and very nice people.

The menu is not huge, but it has enough for you to be satisfied. Beverages include beer and soft drinks, a small selection of wines, many of which are Portuguese, and sangria, red and white. Note that the prices of the wines and the sangria are not on the menu. We ordered the red sangria, which comes by the glass, and if I recall is approximately $9.45/glass. It's delicious and quite strong. Our appetizer was the cod cakes, which could just as easily be described as "cod cake tots" due to their size, but they're also priced "tot size" at $1.75 each. The Portuguese style meals are typically chicken, beef, or various types of seafood, generally served with a tomato based sauce with onions and peppers, on your choice of pasta or rice. Potatoes will also come with some meals. Our dinners came out VERY quickly, just about the time we were finished with the codfish tots. Dinner plus the appetizer and sangria came to about $45 each adding tax and tip, a reasonable amount for the quality of the food and atmosphere.

I stopped by Eko's Bar & Grill for dinner recently and took a seat at the bar which actually has a few hightop tables & chairs at the bar. The Roku TVs were not showing live TV, so I had to watch my football game on my phone as I was deciding on food. I requested an ice water and placed an order for the Seafood Chicharron ($18.99 plus tax) and the EKO's Veggie Burger ($14.99 plus tax) with fries. However, my food order took a long time to come out, 40 minutes to come out for both the starter and entree at the same time. The Seafood Chicharron plate had a sampling of fried seafood & onion rings including calamari, shrimp, and salty fish filet, served with a dijon mustard dipping sauce. The Veggie Burger was very thick & heavy, which was comprised of a thick soft lentil & sweet potato patty with lettuce, tomato, & yellow sauce on a soft bun. The salted fries were hot & crispy. After barely finishing both the appetizer and veggie burger & fries, I requested the check. The check with Toast QR code was $36.36 with tax and before tip. Overall, the food here was good and very filling to eat. Other than the very long wait, I was able to watch my game on my phone and enjoy the tasty food at the same time.

As I began to drive back towards Boston, I searched for possible options along the way that were recommended restaurant stops for their food quality. This Colombian restaurant popped up on the list and immediately beckoned a slight detour to visit. As New England states are so tiny compared to the West Coast, it wasn't long before I exited the freeway and parked along the street outside Panela. While the restaurant had a large space (noticed later there was a dance floor) and an almost equally large bar area, there were only a couple patrons that day - nursing their beers and quietly chatting. Service was fast and prompt and menus were on the table before I even sat down. Water showed up shortly before I was given a little more time to peruse the menu. It was an interesting menu and well thought out. I had no idea what to order so I just followed my gut on what I felt like gorging on (and was glad I did). I won't go much into dissecting each dish. But I can tell you that the flavors were balanced and pleasant. Each bite beckoned more until the plate was empty. I couldn't stop myself. I had to keep going on everything disappeared from the table. It's one of those times that you're not claiming a dish to be perfect in whatever culinary pedigree BUT that it's so balanced in flavor that your palate is tickled in all forms.
