The Old Station House

The couple who run this B&B are incredibly friendly and just lovely people to have a conversation with over one of their trademark HUGE full English breakfasts! They have a wealth of knowledge about places to go and things to do in the nearby Peak District National Park, and are also authorities on the local pubs! The rooms are not big but very cosy and homely, with small en suite bathrooms in every room. The beds are out of this world comfortable, and are so high and well-stocked with pillows that it is a struggle not to think that you may have been coronated some kind of monarch between coming through the door and sitting down on the bed! Rowsley is peaceful and very pretty - a stereotypical Peak District village, and my girlfriend and I always look forward to our stays here.

Indeed it is more like being at home than at a B & B! The full English breakfast is excellent. It's a superbly run b&b, the rooms are very luxurious and spotless. The owners are lovely people and the breakfast is one of the best I've ever tried. Chris, the owner/breakfast chef is very proud of his scrambled eggs, with good reason. Monsal head is a superb location, the views are fantastic. There's a couple of decent pubs and a cafe nearby.

Scenic serenity - Absolute perfection in the Peak District…read more Exceptionally high quality of accommodation. The bedroom was gorgeous and boasted a much needed large and comfy bed along with a beautifully remodeled bathroom. Plus, plenty of parking in their rear parking area should you be traveling with a car. The owner's hospitality was second to none. They welcomed us like family and even went above and beyond to pack us a delicious breakfast when we had to leave for the airport too early to eat at the house. We loved the bacon butties on the road and enjoyed their home made cake at the airport! Location-wise we couldn't have asked for more. Surrounded by walking trails, we used the app iFootpath to catch a couple of different trails that included hill and fields, traveling past sheep and cows - the ultimate countryside experience. One 3 mile trail allowed us (with a slight improvisation) to walk to Chatsworth House. It was gorgeous and well worth the visit. Quaint pubs and cafes were also all walking distance and offered a variety of foods. And, if you're traveling internationally, you're only 1 hour and 10 from Manchester airport. Looking to experience English countryside? You won't be disappointed at Fern Bank.
Kirk Lea Guest House
I made my reservation several months ago when invited to a Wedding nearby…read more Before reserving, I read the web site thoroughly and was pleased with what I read hence my booking. On arrival the alarm bells rang and that was just looking at this place from the outside. I was greeted by the very pleasant John and shown to my room. Although clean enough, the room was in a really bad state of repair and the decor was extremely tired to say the least. When I go away, I expect a decent standard of accomodation and this fell way short. I was really annoyed as I had travelled a long way to get here. The Kirk Lea Guest House website is extremely misleading and there are lots of issues within the room I was due to stay in. The window would not close, there was a burn on the polystyrene light fitting and the floor was very uneven. The furniture was very worn and damaged and nothing matched at all, not an attempt to look "shabby chic" I can promise. There have been some attempts to decorate by the current staff who are well aware of the appearance of the place and were very apologetic when I approached them with my impression of the place. They were helpful and could not have done more to assist me in finding a suitable alternative. This review in no way reflects on John and Val who are lovely people and I wish them well for the future!.

Molly Moo's Tearoom and B&B
Fantastic Location…read more We were on our way up north to Scotland and did stay here for just one night. Located in the Peak distrtict it offers lovely views and has great walks just right in front of the doorstep. But more of that later. The B&B is very charming and the rooms are located on the 1st floor of the building (the Tearoom and kitchen being downstairs). There are two guest rooms, but we were the only ones that day. The room is very charming and has a comfy bed with TV and WiFi. Pretty spacious too. There is only one bathroom / shower to be shared, that's fine. But not only shared with the other guests, it's also the same the Tearoom customers use. That can be a bit of an issue, if it's a busy day. The host was very friendly and a breakfast is included. Unfortunately we didn't have time for it, since we left very early. Location is fantastic. Parking right in front of the building. The roads leading here can be quite narrow (one lane for both ways), but you will be rewarded with a great great landscape. We arrived pretty early and had time for a good walk. We were heading towards Youlgreave and went down and along the River Bradford. Great countryside, a fantastic walk - also for dogs. We walked a bit past Youlgreave and went back through Youlgreave. A good walk of about 4-5 miles and pretty easy. We had a lovely stay and wished we had a bit more time in this beautiful countryside.

It has three rooms in the main house and a seperate small cottage that is adjacent to the private car park. The three rooms are named after Derbysire landmarks - Derwent, Haddon and Chatsworth. Breakfast is ordered via a form handed in on the previous evening. What an impressive breakfast it is to, a wide range of cereals, or porridge to start, followed by either a fried breakfast where you can pick your components or a set breakfast like smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, omelettes etc. The owner of Valley View is friendly and gives advice on places to visit; the price is fairly reasonable too.

Easy walk form the main town, good sized room with ensuite, ridiculously comfy bed with a plethora of extras like home made flapjack style biccies in a tin (these were a South African version) and fresh coffee and teas on a tray in the room. The breakfast was the best thing, with a Veggie and Vegan option, as well as Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, and scrambled egg with a secret ingredient. I was blown away! Mrs Atkinson was a hostess with the mostest, having a chat to all the guests over breakfast, but they couldn'y have been more attentive. £60 a night for 2 in a room, £50 for me on my ownsome including the yummy brekkie. I was sooooo stuffed I didn't mind the dodgy lunch at the training venue! I walked up High Tor while I was there, and down to Matlock Bath and the Heights of Abraham. About an hour and half all told. Matlock isn't a big place, but it is canny enough. This week (3rd to 7th August) is the Bakewell Show, so watch out for queues on the roads.
