The couple who run this B&B are incredibly friendly and just lovely people to have a conversation with over one of their trademark HUGE full English breakfasts! They have a wealth of knowledge about places to go and things to do in the nearby Peak District National Park, and are also authorities on the local pubs! The rooms are not big but very cosy and homely, with small en suite bathrooms in every room. The beds are out of this world comfortable, and are so high and well-stocked with pillows that it is a struggle not to think that you may have been coronated some kind of monarch between coming through the door and sitting down on the bed! Rowsley is peaceful and very pretty - a stereotypical Peak District village, and my girlfriend and I always look forward to our stays here.

Our group of 12 booked the whole place for a long weekend and it was fantastic - the converted building is much larger than you'd think from the road as you pull in (the driveway has space for five cars). On the ground floor there's a utility room, large dining room, downstairs loo, cosy snug, decently-sized kitchen diner and spacious living room with access out to the sprawling garden. Upstairs you'll find six bedrooms (with a combination of double and single beds) two bathrooms, and two separate shower rooms. There are lots of rustic features throughout the building, though it's been tastefully converted and modernised - the kitchen has mod cons such as a dishwasher and large cooker (electric hob) so you can prepare meals for big groups with ease. The private, walled and lawned garden really makes it a great space for enjoying some drinks and food outdoors - it's not overlooked and the surrounding area is very quiet so be mindful of the neighbours if you're planning on arranging anything 'lively' outside :) It's only a short walk into the village of Calver and some exceptional walks through the Peak District countryside. I only wish it was a family member's holiday home so we could come back regularly!

I was delighted to find that both the owner, Abigail and the high standards shown on my previous visit were both still very much present. I had a very comfortable double room, offered voluntarily at the single room rate, and slept very peacefully in beautifully decorated and furnished accommodation. Things like tea, coffee and toiletries were in abundance and although tastefully traditional there was a refreshing amount of power points and storage facilities to hand. The parking right outside was more than ample and the location is central without being exactly in the city centre. I was recommended a fine pub oposite for evening food and took advantage of it. I was also pleased to find that there is a small playing field at the back which in my days of morning running would have come in very handy. The breakfast was absolutely A1 and service could not have been more prompt or friendly. I was actually surprised that credit card payment (missing from so many indepenent B&B's) was installed along with the latest flat screen televisions. The owner takes takes the business seriously but with a smile If that makes sense. If you find yourself in this part of Central England try it, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. The hospitality by Sue was 1st class, she was warm,friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was a delight with every attention to comfort and detail imaginable. The breakfast was a culinary delight and we were only sorry that we couldn't find an excuse to stay longer. We were even conveyed back to the wedding venue to collect our vehicle. I would recommend these premises to anyone. The finest independent B&B we have ever stayed in.

There are many wonderful old buildings and parks as well as shops and pubs within a reasonable walking distance including train and bus stops. These are extremely helpful as Manchester taxis seem to think they can charge London fares. :p I suggest if you don't have your own vehicle use the bus and for £4 ride all day on any bus to any destination. As for the inn itself, it is just a wonderful place on all accounts. The staff are polite, courteous, go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need and even more amazing they always call you by your first name! The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable and the complimentary tea and coffee tray never runs out. The bathrooms are regularly cleaned as well and the water pressure from the showers is amazing. For an extra £5 per day you can get breakfast included and I recommend you do. Their Full Breakfast is THE way to start your day. The only downside here is that I have to leave but I will definitely be back next year!
