We had booked online and paid in full for the weekend begining 11th of May 2012. When we arived at the allotted time of arival we found the building in a poor state of repair and closed. We tried to contact the owners on the number shown above but had no success. Having no choice we spoke to the tourist information office in Buxton only to find out that several people had already paid a deposit and were unable to contact the owners. Luckily we were able to find another B&B in Buxton and managed to save our weekend. As I have said we are not the only people who have fallen foul of what I can only describe as criminal activity and will be taking this matter further with the owners of the property. The Buxton tourist information office can verify the above I had to give a star to publish this it has NO STARS.

We stayed in the UK for two weeks and visited about 10 hotels and this was the only one where we had a really good sized room. It was huge. We felt like royalty staying there. Beautiful. The only thing to be aware of is they lock the doors at night and if you lose your entry code and can't figure out how to make an international call on a US cellphone, you will have to wait for other guests who are out partying late to open the door for you. Don't ask how I know all of that. :-) Wonderful hotel. Definitely one of the best of our trip.

I was slightly surprised the sheer amount of noise that was caused by simple rain in the room but that was a minor thing in comparison with the bed which I assume was designed by the Spanish Inquisition. I have seriously not ever known anything like it. I slept on the floor as it was far more comfortable. After this, I asked to be switched to another room on the ground floor. The bed was tolerable but the attitude of the hotel owners was not. Oh, you want to decide for yourselves where things go? Nope, everything I wanted was moved on a daily basis. Yes, the hotel is pretty cheap (though not the cheapest in Buxton) but nothing on Earth would make me consider going back to this depressing hole.

Breakfast (there were several types to choose from) set me up for the day. The place was extremely clean (the owners obvously take a pride in their business) The room was cleaned every day, fresh towels as well. All were served extremely hot and with vegetables which had obviously be freshly cooked and were not overdone, which is a welcome change from most pub fare. Most main dishes are around £10. The raspberry and apple crumble we had for dessert was particularly good. They have several wine options as well as permanent and guest ales but I did not notice much out of the ordinary in the way of gin, whisky etc. I assume the ale is decent as bf used to come here a lot on cycle trips. There were quite a few changeable ales - 5 cask ones in fact although like most pubs I found in these small Derbyshire towns and villages they were quite conservative with their choices and mainly consisted of a few beers from the big names like Martsons. A great pub with great food - a real country inn so definitely worth driving out to!
