    Afternoon tea
    Helen F.

Stayed here with a group for a hen do. I'm not sure they knew we were a hen do, but we weren't a very lairy group! The hotel is in an old boys school and there are nods to this throughout- old school photos, coat pegs on the wall and so on. It's very charming. Despite being a big group, we were checked in easily and swiftly and they were very flexible with split payments. Our rooms were contemporary with everything you would expect from a 4 star hotel- a good variety of teas, coffee and biscuits on the hospitality tray, nice bed linen, fancy toiletries, a good hot shower. We were also pleased there was air conditioning. We also had afternoon tea. As we were a large group, we were put in a side room round a large table. They'd decorated the room with banners and table confetti which was lovely. The Afternoon Tea was £18 with a glass of champagne each, which was very good value. We had finger sandwiches, a salmon blini, lemon cake, mini victoria sponges, scones, jam and cream plus a little chocolate mousse. Very generous! The hotel is very well situated near the main shops and in Leopold Square which has lots of lovely bars and restaurants. I was very pleased with our stay and will definitely stay again if I'm in Sheffield.

Nice time. Lovely rooms each time we have stayed. Theres no parking though and it's a bit of a hike to the car. We didn't use the bar.

The room is updated, clean and seems well looked after and well presented. Nothing fancy yet smart and comfortable. The hotel was pretty much full but didn't seem loud or noisy around here. The mattress was very comfortable albeit the pillows were all soft and didn't provide enough support for my tricky neck( I know... I'm one of those who collects pillows as always wake up with a stiff or sore neck). Gym:is small but functional. I got up for an early run but one treadmill was out of order and the other in use so I settled for a little static bike ride (at least I moved a bit before breakfast!). Breakfast was very good for the hotel price range, I had some eggs, a piece of toast and banana with yogurt. There was much more selection than that though!, sweet pastries, more fruits, cereals, hot food and you could make your own waffles! (I thought that was cute but I resisted the urge... Not on holiday, couldn't justify it ). I didn't have dinner at the hotel as the selection was lacking. But I'm glad I walked to the sushi place around the corner instead. Will definitely like to come back while on business trip.

I stayed here over the course of 2 weeks on business. During my stay I have a walk around the area and I found many jobless youth standing outside the nearby Job Centre in the day and homeless people roaming the streets in the night. Premier Inn hotels pride themselves with guaranteeing quality sleep. This by offering comfy beds and quality sound isolation. The beds were comfortable. Nevertheless, the sound isolation wasn't up to the standard of the rest of Premier Inn hotels that I stayed in previously. Traffic noise, especially buses, found its way to leak into the rooms and Exhaust fans were noisy. Also, you could here footsteps coming from the corridor. This will be problematic if your neighbouring guests were party animals. The staff were cheerful and respectful. They didn't hesitate to offer help. I parked my hire car in the NCP car park to the rear of the hotel at a 50% discounted rate for being an Premier Inn guest. I enjoyed my stay in this Premier Inn. I hope they can upgrade the noise isolation. I recommend it for business guests who would like to have a place to do work in the area.

The hotel is ideally situated with just a short walk - or tram ride to both the City Hall and the main shopping areas. The hotel itself includes a resturant and bar, and lots of floors for accomodation. Still as a city centre hotel, its not massively overpriced, and the atmosphere is welcoming throughout.

This is well worth looking at…read more I actually came here as The Icarus Line, LA post-hardcore experts, were playing a show. To my amazement a room with breakfast on a Monday night was just £29, and that included a ticket for the gig. That must rate as the best value room I have ever known. Food is OK - I got a burger at the bar which wasn't that great but it wasn't expensive and did the job. The venue part is just the same room as the bar/eatery, so I actually watched the band soundcheck while having my supper, and then the place slowly moved into music venue mode. It isn't a big room so not much space on stage. That meant Icarus Line singer Joe spent some of the time in with the audience which added to the excitement of the show. The sound system is pretty good for such a place and it coped admirably with the enormous sound the band blasted out. As someone pointed out the place is loud and if your room is on the first floor - as mine was - you hear the music from downstairs. If you went to bed early and a band was on there'd be little chance of sleep as it's pretty loud. Staff are all very nice although service is a little casual. Bar prices about average. My room was pretty small but the bed was comfortable and the place served its purpose very well. The windows needed a clean and the place could do with some mild refurbishment. But it is what it is - a cheap place to stay after a night out in Sheffield. The cooked breakfast was pretty good too.... You won't find a better value place to stay in the centre of town for sure...

Starting with the positives, the hotel is in the city centre of Sheffield, within walking distance of many of the city's shops, restaurants, train station and the Cathedral, the latter also has Sheffield Supertram services stopping outside to the likes of Meadowhall and Rotherham. I managed to get a good deal on an Executive Room here, at the time of booking it didn't cost too much more and was worth it for the early checkout alone, I find the standard checkout time here of 11 am to be far too early, the Executive Room is much more generous, offering a 2 pm checkout. I'm not sure how they manage to offer both a guaranteed early check-in and late check-out as a perk of an Executive Room though, the standard check-in time is 3 pm, so if every guest checked out late, that would give them an hour to clean the rooms, without even considering the earlier check-in, I guess with some guests leaving early and arriving late, and rooms not selling every night, it makes it unlikely you'll get stuck. My room was fine, the facilities were good and included a Nespresso machine, mini-fridge and desk, the bare minimum for an Executive Room, with the bonus of a couple of cans of Pepsi in the fridge ready. The room was a little small, but suitable for one night only. The room was clean and I appreciated the free newspapers by the lifts in the morning, and the fact it was mostly quiet, compared to other hotels I've stayed in. I'm struggling to think of many other positives for the hotel, unfortunately, the biggest negative for me was the bed, the mattress was awful and hard, combined with pillows which had nothing to them, they were worse than hospital pillows in the NHS, and after a nights sleep, I had the worst neck and back aches caused by this. I could have cried if I had to stay at the hotel for another night. I was disturbed by housekeeping who attempted to enter my room after 1 pm, I am angry because I had a Do Not Disturb sign on the door, and they tried to intrude anyway, with no apology from the staff. Entering a room without permission is bad enough, let alone when a guest is due to check out and there is a sign stating "Do Not Disturb" on the door. I wasn't a big fan of the bathroom, as it was a shower inside the bath and very dated compared to the rest of the room, and I prefer standalone units, but the toiletries were nice, as promised on the website. Other minor faults include the TV being stuck to the wall with an unadjustable bracket, meaning I couldn't use my fire stick, and the size of the room, leaving very little room to pass between the desk and the bed, I had to squeeze past, which was inadequate. The extra star is mainly for the friendly staff at reception, and the little things that add up which the hotel doing, from the free coffee at the bar to the free Pepsi and newspapers, while also considering the lack of noise and late check-out available as a non-status member, but I would not recommend the hotel, nor would I consider returning under normal circumstances. 2*

This was our fourth visit to this festival, but we have stayed in a couple of different hotels over the 4 years. The first couple of years we stayed in St Mary's Gate Premier Inn. Now, as Prem's go, this is quite a nice one... however... It's a Premier Inn (so you know exactly what you're getting). The last couple of years the hotel seemed to twig that something was going on and put up their prices to make the stay really blinkin' expensive (and thus worth us looking elsewhere). A quick search on the internet turned up the Copthorne Hotel. About a 10 minute walk away from the venue, free parking, free wifi and 4*. It was also a good £100 less than the alternative, so we booked without doing much research. Oh My.... What a find. The Hotel chain in the UK is mostly made up for 4* and 5* hotels which are located in most of the big cities you would expect them to be. When we checked into the room the first time, we were very pleasantly surprised. Spacious, modern, clean and comfortable. There is a fridge in every room and steam-proof mirrors in the bathroom (a lifesaver at a festival). The bed is mega comfortable and the all of the rooms are soundproofed as well (meaning you're not woken up by various people stumbling in in the wee small hours of the night). The staff are really professional and friendly. They've never once treated us any differently to the other guests when we've turned up in our "going out" gear and have always been extremely helpful when we've had any requests as per the room or facilities. Our stay over bank holiday weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) cost us £154 without Breakfast (but other guests scored the stay for £103). It will forever now be our go-to booking for visits to Sheffield.

I would definitely use this hotel again.
