It was my first year in NYC, and I didn't know any better. So I moved into one of their newly renovated units in the same building, still cheap, but just barely over the threshold to be rent controlled. 2 years later, and my lease renewal just said they want to increase my rent by another 38%. The "renovations" they make to apartments are the cheapest you can imagine. Holes were left in our walls, the dishwasher was not installed correctly, nor was the kitchen sink. Mice entered the apartment through the spaces left open in the walls behind the new cabinetry. Treetop would not give us the phone number of our super, saying that if we needed something we should call the office and they would call him. Their office hours were 9am-1pm. What a joke. PRO's: Great space for your apartment , close to the train if you need to take public transportation, & the residents / neighbors seem halfway decent. Now that being said ,"WATCH OUT FOR RATS/MOUSE inside the hallways & hopefully they won't make it into your apartment cause the are here! Management are the worse , the'll take your rent but won't fix certain things that need to be fix in the apartment . It's just a hassle trying to get in touch with the right person ,"EXTERMANTOR!" 195 Prospect St is Treetop building. I will give an honest assessment of pros and cons. Pros - huge apartments, hardwood floors are so nice, quiet building, lovely kitchen and bathroom and all of my guests who come are impressed by the lobby renovation. Cons - when the high school kids get out of class the block becomes noisy. we have two cars and I have to park one on the street because there is not enough parking for both in the garage. read more

I reside at 243 S. Harrison Street in East Orange, an apartment building owned by Treetop. My experience here has been nothing more than appalling. I was looking for an affordable 1-bedroom apartment with an easy commute to Manhattan. When I initially came to view the apartment, the manager, Joe Chajmovicz, was friendly, and the apartment looked bright, clean, and impressive. However, shortly after moving in, I discovered the true nature of the building and the people who run it. Joe is rude, conniving, and money-hungry. The building is infested with mice and roaches, and it has no matter whether you keep your unit sparking clean. The elevators are constantly breaking down, and it is quite often that someone will be stuck in one for a while (you can tell from the buzzing alarm that radiates through the building). However, most disturbing is the management's negligence to provide heat on a consistent basis in the winter. Just last week, it was 25 degrees overnight, and I woke up to COLD AIR blowing through my vents. When you sign your lease with Treetop, it is very enticing when they offer "A/C and Heat Included", however, the air conditioner is nearly never on in the summer, and heat is very rarely provided in the winter. Also, it is important to know that no matter how good of a tenant you are, whether you pay your rent early every month or not, Treetop WILL raise your rent each year. I agreed to take a rent increase in August, but will most definitely be moving out at the end of my current lease. I have spoken to other tenants who have lived in the building for 4 or 5 years, and they have had increases of about $50/month every year they have resided here. East Orange is becoming completely overrun by this company. It is very enticing to see affordable apartments with an easy commute to NYC, but I highly suggest you look elsewhere. I am angry, frustrated, scared and feeling like I am being cornered and I don't like it, because I don't know what to do and how to get out of it! I moved to 106 S Harrison over a year ago, and immediately knew I had made a mistake, I went to speak to the manager who is condescending, and does not try to compromise w/you in any way!, and asked her if I could get out of the lease, she told me I had to pay 3 months' rent!! REALLY???? I figured I would stay and move when my lease was over, but then I had some financial issues, and paid the rent late, I thought Ok, I will pay the late fee, but imagine my surprise when I received a letter from housing court!! not once, twice but 4x!!!! and imagine my surprise when I was billed for them taking me to court! all because I paid the rent late within the same month!, when my lease was over at the end of May, I kept calling the office to schedule the walk thru of the apt. and never got through to them, so I took a long lunch (I work in NYC) on the week that I was supposed to move (had an apt. lined-up and was supposed to sign the lease that day)but knowing that these people are shady, I wanted to make sure everything was copasetic, and went to the office, rang the bell and was not let in, I figure they were out to lunch, but Thank God that after 5 minutes of standing there a man came in who seem to work w/them and they buzzed him in,(SHADY!) so I went in w/ him. The receptionist who is belligerent and confrontational, asked me for my info, I gave it to her and she said "YOU CAN'T MOVE!...YOU DIDN'T GIVE US 60 DAYS NOTICE!!!" I thought someone had punched me in my stomach and literally crouched! I was stunned and said what do you mean, my lease is up, and she said "WELL YOU CAN MOVE, BUT YOU ARE NOT GETTING YOUR SECURITY!", so I lost it, and started to cry, I can't afford to lose my $1,200, she said let me see what I can do for you, I can probably get you half, and I said NO! I can't afford to lose my $$ further more I am hardly here so I've been paying rent to fulfill my commitment, she said well stay the month and use the security all you have to do is pay is for the 4% increase and legal fees!! Fine I will do it. Stayed the month of June, and then could not find an apt by the time July came, so I went to see them just to find out they were taking me back to court (July 22) because I had not paid the rent!!! But the receptionist told me to use my security I argued w/ the manager (Jayme) who only communicates w/ me via e-mail, because conveniently is never around when I've showed up to the office! I went to court,and was shocked to see there were about 15 people who live in the TREETOP Development buildings and realized this is a hell of a scam they got going!! The lawyer was arrogant, and when I try to tell him the receptionist had told me to live my security he condescendingly said read your lease!! gave me 2 weeks to pay the rent, I had most of the money, and then yesterday I asked my daughter to go pay the 1,000 that was still outstanding and confirm that we were up-to-date, imagine my surprise when my daughter calls me and said that the receptionist said I owed them over 5,000!!! FOR WHAT!! I LITERALLY THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO HAVE A STROKE/HEART ATTACK!!! I asked to speak to her and said how is that possible I left cashier's check and money order on your slot last week! THEY HAD NOT CHECKED IT!! and the manager refused to take the 1,000 money order I had sent w/ my daughter because now she's saying that I still owe them $1,586!!! HOW THE HELL AM I GOING TO MOVE OUT IF THEY KEEP ADDING ALL THESE FEES, they claim that in addition to the 4% raise I also have to pay $100.00 for MONTH TO MONTH FEE, and they are also adding legal fees!!! I AM AT A LOSS, I DETEST THESE PEOPLE!!! DO NOT MOVE TO ANY OF THE TREETOP APTS. BECAUSE ONCE YOU GET ON THEIR SCREW YOU RADAR, YOUR LIFE WILL BE HELL!!! they are merciless! Now I'm dreading going home tonight (8/5) because I don't know what to expect! The fact that she refuse to take the 1,000 money order is making me nervous, and suspicious of what they are going to do next, will I be locked out of the apt? PLEASE PRAY FOR ME!! I can't back up what was said by former tenants, but my application process for the building on 99th st in Queens (Saxon Hall) was pretty bad. The brokerage firm (Contact Solutions Real Estate) was great and very helpful, but the management company, and specifically Joe were the opposite. I should've known right away when he gave me a bit of a sleezeball vibe in person; also not very pleasant on the phone. After telling him about my situation (I'd recently changed jobs to work full-time at a company I'd co-founded), getting all of my paperwork together and submitting the application (complete with SSN) he comes back and tells me they want 3 months security deposit! Now, keep in mind I have amazing credit (760+) and made over 100k/yr salary last year; so I tried talking to him about this, and he wouldn't budge. He said because my landlord didn't have a 'rental ledger' he could get a copy of (who the hell has an actual ledger??) and because I'd switched jobs, he wanted 3 months security. Obviously that gave me pause, and after reading reviews here and Google Reviews I did NOT feel comfortable handing him that much money (right before my wedding no less!) so I ultimately said no. My sense is he was just trying to get 6k of mine in the bank in hopes of finding a way to take some of it at the end of the lease, because 2 days later my fiancee and I found a better apartment through Beekman Street Realty and the agent told me I was the fastest approval she ever had. Now the building (Saxon Hall) seemed great, and if they DO make the improvements the say they will (obviously uncertain) it will be a great place to live. However I'd think twice before handing Joe any money or giving him your personal information; I certainly regret doing so. read more

It sounds with this company it's about money, which I understand a business wants to make money, but people work hard for their money and want a decent place to stay and they Treetop should treat their tenants better and have better management team working for them. They seem to want to get over on people and use the laws to get away with it. Tenants need to get together and file a class action lawsuit or complain with the State Attorney General on their mistreatment from this company. read more

Absolutely the worse people that I have ever dealt with. Bait and switch going on. Joe the manager of the Saxon Hall property is absolutely horrible. Was given all the incorrect information and once I gave the deposit I was notified of more fees and rules that they had there. When I complained about this they basically said that they didnt want to rent to me because I was unhappy. It took them 3 days to actually tell me that I could not rent there. After giving them $300 in application fees from my bf and I, selling our car and paying a deposit for movers. Then they gave away my deposit to my broker without notifying me first. ABSOLUTELY the worst experience I have ever had with finding an apartment. I cannot believe they get away with these things. read more

I wish I could give this company no stars. They are so unprofessional. I lived in the Packwood development on Mount Prospect Avenue. I stayed one year and ran away. When I moved in I was told the apartment would be renovated, that was a lie. All was done was painting. The cabinets were breaking off, the front door to the apartment got stuck and rather than fix the issue I was told to just lock the lock and it should be fine. The buildings were roach infested. You could hear people arguing and fighting every night outside. We were told we couldn't be on the grounds, yet they were people hanging out and a kid playing basketball every day. We had heating problems and my newborn was sick. The tenants upstairs were extremely loud and I had to tell management for times until they said something to them. After a month I met a neighbor who stated this was the worst property to live on because they are ghetto and do not help the tenants at all. The building Manager, Carmen loves to make bullsh*t excuses for what is going on in the building. Then want to smile in your face like nothing is wrong. On Saturday when the office is supposed to be open, they either close it early or people that don't speak English is in there not knowing what they are doing. As far as the roaches I was told if I kept my apartment clean then I wouldn't have bugs. Extremely rude. First off I had just moved in and the next day they started popping up. Secondly my apartment had boxes because we didn't finish unpacking and my apartment was not dirty or had food lying around. I have never had issues with roaches until moving in to this building. So basically I guess the entire building was nasty since everyone had roaches. Every month there so call exterminator would come and do a horrible job. I had to take matters in to my own hands and get rid of their roaches. My final month in the building I received notification that if I didn't vacate by the end of the month, I must renew my lease for a mandatory rent increase. The building is trash, but they want to increase rent. I have moved out and thank GOD. I am now in a roach free apartment. I been trying to get in contact with them for months regarding my security deposit and I am still waiting. I am being ignored. So now when they begin getting calls every day then they'll know. I should I just bring 7 on your side to them. They need to clean up there building and find better employees. This company is a NIGHTMARE. Never rent from them! read more

I currently live at the Saxon Hall (since 03/2014) and am very satisfied with the building, the staff, and especially the management (Adam Spiro). I have no complaints. Whenever I have problems (very few) the staff responds almost immediately. The building is clean and the ongoing changes are positive and refreshing. I use the gym facilities a few times a week and am happy with the equipment and cleanliness. I opted for a lease extension and was satisfied with the slight increase. The previous tenants (before the new management) are not happy with the changes, but I don't understand that, the changes are positive. Maybe their rents have increased but the quality of the amenities are in line with what you would pay for similar in Queens NYC. I would recommend this building to anyone looking for a secure, safe and clean living environment. :-) read more

my apartment is way small but very nice. I have had no dealings with the management company treetops development except for when i signed my lease. no real maintenance complaints other than it would be nice if the super spoke English. instead i practically use sign language! 106th and Amsterdam on the west side of manhattan is a good clean area so i am happy with the block. they even had a block party last week which was cool. does anyone even know how to get to endo nowadays? i think not. my kitchen and bathroom are brand new renovated. i put in a request at the end of the year to upgrade to a one bedroom from a studio because its so small. the company has put a lot of money into the bilden. read more

Treetop Management is the worst! Please read the reviews before renting any apartments from this management. I recently moved to one of the buildings Treetop owns 99th Street Rego Park. Very easy process with the paper work and getting approved. I thought living in this building would be a better life for my family. We guesses wrong it has been nothing but problems since day one. The puerto rican doorman is a piece of ****. The building is in the process of being renovating so be prepared to move into a construction war zone. Neighbors are disgustingly rude. Also this building don't waste your time on making a complaint because Adam the assistant management would not solve any issue you have going on. This management sucks so bad that I heard they ask the supers on what to do with a situation with neighbors complaining about anything. I can't wait to my lease to be over so I can leave this ridiculous slum lords that don't know how to make living wise so easy and comfy. read more

Updated Review: After living at 106 S Harrison for a second year we bid it farewell. Year 1 saw uneven heat, two kinds of roaches, and silverfish despite repeated extermination visits. Repair requests got slowly responded to an only done in a half hearted manner. This past winter was absolutely brutal with the uneven heat and the very poor job of clearing ice and snow around the building exterior and parking lots despite constant calls and emails to the management office and parking company which pointed fingers at each other regarding whose responsibility it was to take care of. The past 6 months mice made their way into our apartment through the holes cut into the floor for the radiator steam pipes to pass through. One elevator is often out of service and the second one also went down from time to time. They raised the rent 4% each year which is the maximum allowed by East Orange. Spend a little more $ and rent elsewhere. read more

I moved into 111 S. Harrison St and I agree with some of the reviews but disagree with other points. True, the management did raise my rent after my lease was over and I decided to stay, but I think that the Treetop buildings are some of the best ones in East Orange and still pretty affordable. The super is old but good. It is also true that now management makes us send rent in or pay online and we cant pay at the office anymore but that does not bother me. The one time I had a leak in my bathroom the super came and fixed it in a couple of hours. Overall I would recommend Treetop. read more

I am a tenant at 120 S Harrison st. I am not at all surprised with the reviews. Firstly, the receptionist behaves like a pig. She grunts at tenants. I once reported bed bugs, the exterminator came and sprayed once. He told me it would take 3 treatments to complete the process of elimination. He never returned, the bugs never went away. I called the office and " miss piggy" arrogantly told me that I am to be blamed for the bugs. At the time 4 other tenants told me they had the problem. I signed a form for them to spray my apartment on May 24 th 2013. To date I am treating the bug infestation myself. I threw away my sofas and two beds so far.Secondly, the walls are powdering , I called them and again " miss piggy" put me on hold for 15 minutes and them hang up the phone. Thirdly, a wire was sparking in my bathroom and when I called miss piggy told me I have to wait or do what I want. I called the fire department. They came and ordered them to fix it right away. They did. As for Jamie she is a replica of the receptionist, I am sure she trained her. She is always unavailable . I spoke to her regarding carpet cleaning. She said please call her in a week's time. To date I have not heard from her. I left 4 messages and mind you, we had this conversation in May, 2014. I called the city and was told that they would look into the issue. I am still awaiting there response. I would move from here tomorrow is they would give me my security deposit and some moving expenses. I've lost all of my furniture already, but that's ok. If you are looking for a place to rent. My first bad encounter was with the property manger there name Joe, he was rude and always has an attitude. I was so happy when I heard Joe was no longer working there. I thought we would get someone else that was professional and know how to talk to people. Instead we got a female named Jamie who is just as bad and does not have a clue how to manage any properties. She is rude and non professional. She talks to you like your bothering her to do her job. The heat is off during the winter nights. Last year during the summer it was blowing hot air for weeks and the assistant manger name Q gives you an attitude when you call and ask what's going on. I never been treated this way before and I thought about making a complaint about them to the corporate office and realized there all about making the money and squeezing as much as they can from old buildings. I've met with other tenants in the building and they have nothing good to say about the company and also been mistreated by them. GOOD RIDDANCE TO TREETOP DEVELOPMENT AND GOOD LUCK TO THE TENANTS. I hope the owners for the company would read these reviews and try to make a difference. read more

many of the residents leave garbage all over the ground around the buiilding at 106 s. harrison. there's no hot water from our kitchen sink, no water at all from our bathroom sink, and the tub tiles were not caulked and thus water is obviously seeping through the walls. there are also gigantic cockroaches. someone threw an egg at me in the front of the building as i was entering earlier today. sorry but my fiancee and i don't shit where we eat. we'll be moving as soon as the lease expires and never dealing with this awful company again. read more

If I could give Treetop Development negative stars, I certainly would!!! I moved into 106 S. Harrison St not even a month ago smh from the moment I moved into this building I've had problems upon problems, none of them of which has been resolved. First of all, potential renters need to beware of this building, its not sanitary at all, my specific apartment is filled with roaches and an endless population of mices, I moved in about four weeks ago, and every week I caught at least two or more mice's if i'm don't catch them in the kitchen, I catch them in my bedroom or my sons room. This is totally disgusting, the mice's have completely taken over my apartment. The kitchen drainage system is a disaster waiting to happen, If my neighbours are using their kitchen sink, and I'm not, the water from their kitchen comes up in my sinks smh filthy. The first night I went to take a shower in the bathtub, it was okay, until it was time to get out the tub and turn the faucet off...I turned and turned the faucet, nothing happened, my apartment pretty much flooded, I called the buildings super (who is pretty much useless as all hell) he showed up 30 minutes later smh....These people made no effort to help me solve this problem, I refuse to live here for a whole year, I wouldn't like to, but if I have to I will be getting a lawyer to help me get out of this god forsaken building!!! read more
