I recently stopped by Pete's Fruit Market for the first time after hearing about it. As soon as I…read morewalked in, I saw buckets of vegetables: peppers, tomatoes, squash, you name it. Most buckets seemed to be about 6-8 inches in diameter and prices ranged from $1 to $5. I only wish they offer smaller buckets instead of such a big bucket. It is hard to buy in bulk with smaller household and I don't like to freeze produce. I was curious about the quality of the produce, but I wasn't too impressed. For example, the apricots looked a little banged up--kind of like the "misfit" produce I've seen before. There was upbeat Mexican music playing, which gave the place a fun vibe, and the store itself isn't that big. A security guard was stationed outside. They had yellow-flesh watermelon at $0.99/lb, and giant seeded watermelons for $16 each--which felt pricey, especially since I had just come from Costco where I got a decent-sized watermelon for $6 (though admittedly smaller than the ones at Pete's). I also noticed mangoes going for $2 each, which again felt steep. I had been hoping to find some Mexican pastries, but nothing really stood out, and there weren't any prepared foods available. However, I saw they got a catering menu which I thought it might be good to have a food court selling those items. I was expecting something more like La Michoacana or Fiesta stores in Texas, but this wasn't it. In the end, I just picked up a few Mexican candies like Pulparindo and called it a day. I was a bit disappointed with the fruit selection, especially the lack of tropical options. On the plus side, they have a fairly large, gated parking lot, which is convenient. I'm glad I visited, but not sure I'll be rushing back anytime soon.

The whole front area is kind of like a cool DIY play area. There's a basketball hoop, there's an area where kids can smack on different sounding metal objects. There's a corn feed area where there's little diggers and scoop trucks to play with that. You can meet the farm chickens and they sometimes event host events (we went during a popcorn time which was super cool to try different popcorn seeds as well as spiced popcorn with plenty of variety!) There is an area where you can pay to slingshot apples at a target in the middle of a field. There's a corn maze that we weren't brave enough to go in and the apple picking was really great. We selected a larger bag we stuffed it to the brim and we definitely had enough apples to Last us for weeks and my husband made an apple pie. We will definitely come back next season!

Had my whole life the rice crispy treats been this creative I would have never had a deep dislike for them. With my new found fondness for the rice crispy treat I would definitely be back in the future. For the people who came up with this fantastic idea of elevating the rice crispy treats to a gourmet premium treat, hats off to you. They definitely hit this one out of the park.

I first picked up a bag of their banana muffin cereal on a whim in a quaint little coffee shop in Hartford WI back in October, just as a snack to tide me over until I got back to Milwaukee & cooked dinner. I ended up polishing off the whole 8oz bag. It was SO delicious! Great crunchy texture, crispy almonds & a heavenly banana flavor that didn't taste artificial at all. I made it a point to stop in that coffee shop each time I was in Hartford to pick up a bag (or three) of the pre-soaked oatmeal cereal; it is the absolute best granola I have ever eaten. The coconut flavored cereal has big tender slices of real organic coconut that are simply heavenly, not that icky sugary shredded kind you find at grocery stores. I'm eating some right now! They had a Facebook promotion late last year after they were making a batch of new Vanilla sprouted snack mix & forgot to add the vanilla, so they were giving bags of the "Oops" batch away for free to their customers. All you had to do was send them an email with your address. They sent me a free bag, & the sprouted nut snack mix was just as delicious as the granola. It was cashews, almonds, sunflower seeds & coconut pieces sweetened with honey. Mmmmm! I had a great idea to bake the snack mix into a shortbread cookie, but I ate it all up before I could even start baking anything. I can't wait to try their nut butters, their other flavors of oatmeal cereal (a friend of mine in NC ordered the orange pecan & loved it), & their trail mix. They also run a sheep farm in Ashippun that sells farm fresh lamb meat & eggs. You can even purchase them online! They're super friendly folks who make healthy snacks/food with locally sourced organic ingredients that are insanely delicious. I think if more people knew that healthy food tasted this good, they'd definitely change their mind about it. I just had to add them here on Yelp!

This small town market has a lot to offer, most of its products are directly from them or locally sourced. It's designed to give off a small town feel and is cozy. We were hoping to walk around the apple orchard and outside grounds but unfortunately that is only available Saturdays and Sundays. Since we stopped in on a Wednesday that area was closed. We made the best out of it and strolled around the market instead. Staff members were helpful. No one was pushy and we didn't feel rushed to get in and out. We purchased several items and if I were to go back I'd definitely get the apple pie in a bag and chocolate peanut butter balls again. I'd pass on the seasoned pretzels and cheese curds. No food trucks or carts of any kind, there is plenty of people traffic to warrant one. My hot pepper hunt fell flat and a basket of jalapeños for $2 was as exotic as it got while lunch was one egg roll and one crab Rangoon for $2 so it was mostly a bust today on this trip. This Farmer marker ended up being mostly vegetables so if that's what you are looking for than your good. If your looking for a grander Farmers Market with excellent variety than try the Greenfield one, way better.

People in Milwaukee are lame and never go out of the 2-3 "hip" areas, so since this is literally my front yard - get your chicken shit butts over here and get some red beets. Their service differs from a CSA in that it is delivered (to your house) year round, you choose the schedule and size of your box and can change it anytime, and you have some say in what gets put in your box (up to three substitutions at this time). Oh, and the quality of the produce is guaranteed, so if you get a bad avocado or something just let them know and your account will be credited. How sweet is that?! To be honest, I just signed up this week and haven't gotten a box yet, but I'm sure I'll be updating soon about how awesome it is indeed.
