After going back and forth, they said they could meet at 11 am on Saturday. Now, Saturday came, my husband was in the online meeting room, but nobody showed up. He waited for 30 minutes there and ended the online meeting. Now, after he left home, Evelyn called him and said she had forgotten the meeting, with no legitimate reason. And after wasting part of his weekend, she told him that they only offer the full management service and do not help just with finding a tenant. The purview of their service is fine; that is their choice, but this could certainly be communicated via email instead of going through this unprofessional and disrespectful experience. I was surprised to find many great reviews about this company, which was good for them, but I guess our need wasn't lucrative enough for them to care if you can drop a meeting they scheduled without giving a legitimate reason.

We had previously been with another property management company for ~5 years, and we lost A LOT of money while with them. We are very trusting, but over time we couldn't trust them, as they're accounting was horrible. Hey couldn't understand the simplest of requests. They used antiquated systems, and we would get statements 1-2 months late. It was just horrible. We knew it was time to change, and to be honest we didn't think there would be a huge difference between management companies. We interviewed 5 places. One place has been in the business for a long time, but he was too arrogant, and the others were nice but didn't seem to do anything extremely special. We settled on one, not J Keller at first, and then Jon convinced us to just give his company a shot so we switched last minute. We were impressed by his motivation and professionalism. We can only thank Jon tremendously now for convincing us to go with him because for the first time in years we are in the black. He is honest, organized and uses updated technology for accounting. His team is excellent at communication, and we trust them 100%. We were at API t where we couldn't afford the losses we were taking when with the other management company, but we have now decided to keep the properties since with J Keller they are in excellent shape, and we finally have cash flow. You have to be crazy not to go with J Keller, and I say this after being a landlord for over 10 years and having worked in the Ann Arbor real estate business. I know who the other companies are, and J Keller is head and shoulders above them all.

Jon Gordon helped my partner connect with the perfect commercial/studio space earlier in the year. So when the time came to jump into the market for a home, we immediately thought of him. Jon mostly handles commercial properties, and is also an associate broker, so we weren't sure if he would take up our cause or pass us along to another agent. We were happy when we heard that he would indeed be our buyer's agent. We knew from the start that we had a good "gut feeling" about Jon -- he seemed to have enough experience in the business to know all the ins, outs, and everyone around town, but he also seemed honest, up-front and on the level, something I haven't always sensed in my interactions with other agents. Throughout the process, we were glad to have Jon representing us and going to bat for us. He was a great listener and plenty personable, but could get tough when the situation called for that approach. And, of course, the situation did at times. We honestly could not have been happier or had a better guide through the process of first-time home ownership. After this positive experience as well as the positive experience with my partner's commercial space, I'd recommend Jon or any agent on his team that he personally recommended in a heartbeat.

From the first day when we met, when he picked me up on campus during my welcome weekend visit and drove me to a wide variety of his properties, I was impressed by his care and his desire to make sure I found a place to live where I was really happy. The apartment I rented was exceptionally well-maintained, and I lived there the entire 3 1/2 years I was in Ann Arbor. Every time I called Bob, he answered the phone. And anytime I needed a repair or regular maintenance, his warm and friendly staff (the wonderful Al and Tony), arrived within the hour. Whenever I called Bob, he asked how I was doing, and it took me a while to realize he was really asking and really wanted to know. And once, when I was horribly sick with the flu and I had to be on campus until 10 p.m. and I had a flight at 6 a.m. the next morning and my car was snowed in, I called Bob to tell him of my predicament and ask if he knew anyone I could call for help, and he sent over his crew to shovel me out, just out of kindness. Renting our first home in Ann Arbor seemed like a good idea at the time. But leases end, and kids require stability. So buy a house we did. This was our first ever home purchase in Michigan. It's always interesting to see the regional variations of the home buying process state by state. I'm still not 100% how it all works, but I trusted our real estate agent to guide me through the process. That said, I've never fully understood what title companies really do. In Michigan, Title Companies seem to play the role that lawyers do in New York. Make sure all the i's are dotted. The t's are crossed. Facilitate these big transactions. Document the entire process. It was the seller of the house who chose Absolute Title. We were just along for the ride. And to extend the metaphor just a bit, in the age of COVID-19 we were treated to a Drive-In closing. Which means, periodically large stacks of papers were handed to my wife and me through the car window. We signed them, and traded the stack for a new mound of papers to sign. Once it was all done, we were homeowners. We drove down to the city clerk to file some important tax document. Weeks later, Absolute Title sent us a check because apparently there was a subsequent change to taxes in our favor. Woo hoo! All in all, this was about as painless an experience as one could have at the end of a significant financial transaction. And I did prefer signing all those papers in the peace, quiet, and relative privacy of our car, instead of around a meeting room table with all parties watching the process.

The title companies are probably slammed right now. And my deal wasn't a super lucrative one for…read morethem either. BUT, they should still have the processes in place to be a good title company. - I bought a piece of property without an agent and they didn't even keep me in the loop. How was I supposed to know anything that was going on, you ask? Well, they expected THEIR real estate agent to keep me in the loop. UGH. - There were several things that just didn't look quite right, so I ended up having to pay for a lawyer. This was platted land. It should have been very straightforward and clear from their end. It wasn't. - The person that I was communicating with for the two whole weeks this took didn't even come to the closing - someone else did. So I was confused about who I was even supposed to be working with. - I asked how much I owed, so that I could obtain a certified check. She ended up telling me the wrong amount. When I asked to see the invoice, she apologized and told me that she gave me the wrong amount. In my mind, ALL requests for large sums of money should be accompanied by an invoice (and the right amount is a "duh" situation.) The good: - The person that I worked with to close was efficient and understanding of my frustrations. - There is plenty of parking. - Masks were worn and plastic separators were set up in the closing room. Overall acceptable experience, though if I were going to select my own title company, it would not be Liberty Title. I did a commercial deal with Preferred Title a couple months ago, and I DID have a broker - and they still kept me in the loop. They also had a place where we could securely send messages to the team of people involved. Much more professional and thorough experience.
