While testing a typewriter I was considering purchasing, a woman abruptly stopped me from tapping aggressively through the glass, telling me not to touch it--despite there being no signage indicating it was off-limits. If I'm going to spend money at your business, I expect to be treated with basic respect. Sadly, that was not the case here. I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this shop to others.

You know... like one of those antique stores that you walk around in like you're trying to loot an abandoned convenience store full of zombies and if you make one noise it will wake up all the zombies. You know... those antique stores where you really daintily flip over one of the price tags, realize that the glass vase you're looking at is priced at $1475 and want to immediately leave but you continue looking around the store because you feel it would be rude to immediately leave even though you know you're not gonna be able to afford anything. This is a store that seems to be made out of an old residence. There are twists and turns. There are step ups, and further step ups. There's a basement that's sort of hidden in and on the right. It's definitely a treasure hunt, and I found most of the prices to be pretty fair all things considered. You won't believe this... but I ended up buying a clock. A pretty nice Seikosha (Japanese Seiko) pendulum clock that was on a 25% sale in an individual consigners booth. Oh yes... the store is made up of consigners booths which is something I've always liked. To me, it means that if one consigner booth is priced a little high, I still have so so many more booths to look at with different pricing levels. Also, different people collect different things. So for instance, the booth I found the clock in, I could tell that this consigner appreciated clocks, cause he had 2-3 more up for sale. All in all, I will definitely be back to this store when I'm in Annapolis. It might be one of my favorites in that area.

Purchased from this auction house on HiBid. The framed print was advertised as antique from the…read more19th century and on the listing it noted that 5-10 dollars would be added for shipping and handling costs. It even said that the poster had an original tax stamp on it. To my surprise shipping was $99 and the frame arrived shattered. The poster was a cheap 21st century reproduction and even the stamp was printed on!! I bid $50 and would have bid higher thinking it was an original piece. When I called the auction house scared about shipping costs, they threatened to have me banned from this action and others on hibid. Beware of this auction house as it may be a scam and/or false advertisement. Edit: the owner replied to my review and another recent review saying they never did business with us. He is a liar. I even attached a photo of what I bought and I'm pretty sure he's the man I spoke to on the phone. Also posting a pic of my invoice here for reference and you can see every detail of what I wrote is true.

Randy Trammel is a very talented furniture and cabinet maker and his wife Jeanne- along with her wonderful mother- travel to Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Ohio and other states to find wonderful treasures, which they sell along with contemporary furniture. They are only open on weekends, 12-5 PM. I highly recommend this store. They will make you feel like one of the family with their warmth and humor. I have bought both antiques and contemporary furniture from them over the years and I love everything that I've bought. And it seems that every time I drop in Jeanne has somehow brought in another treasure. They also sell antique American Indian baskets- when she finds them. This is a wonderful store that you will not be sorry you visited. And the prices are extremely good considering the fantastic quality that you are getting. I went here recently because I was in the hunt for a new Yukata but stumbled so much beyond that…read more They were one of the shops at the Sakura Matsuri DC event that sold Kimonos/Yukatas/Obis, ect... First thing out of the way, Arise Bazaar is not easy to find but I made it easier to find. It's behind the shops in front as soon as you enter. Past the first row of places, immediately make a left and you'll see Arise. I think they did not have a sign at the time luckily it was not hard to spot ( there was a van that had cherry blossoms as a dead giveaway too ). Second, the person (Paul) who runs this shop does not open this shop frequently. If it is not a sale he is doing, most of the time you'd have to schedule an appointment for him to come out. It's a bit strange but since my visit was based on his IG post about a sale on everything in the store, it was enticing for me to check it out. They just have really limited hours so I highly suggest you go early. Third, while I am all for supporting Arise Bazaar, the items I got besides the Yukata might be on Amazon. I realized after buying my Clip On Obi that it's cheaper on there but I will leave that to your digression. That being said.. Walking in here, this is a warehouse full of antiques. From pottery to paintings, to kimonos/yukatas.. there's a lot going on here. Paul, the person who runs the store was kind enough to take time to show me where the Yukatas were at and left me to see what color scheme or design I wanted to try out. He was nice and even offered to help me put the yukata on. Since I wanted more than the Yukata, I also tried out the Clip on Obi he recommended. He was not really knowledgeable and tried his best to help me put it on securely but he offered to see if a staff member could come in to help assist in the future. After picking out the Yukata and the Clip on Obi, we looked at fans to buy and he was generous enough to let me get an extra fan as a gift. I think the total after the discount was around 200 which was a nice deal. My only complaint is that the store is very all over the place. Many boxes of things that could be out in display, there were Kimonos/Yukatas I did not get to check out and I wish I mentioned that sooner. Paul is also an expert of Kimonos, but if you wanted to get your kimono actually dressed professionally, he has to inquire with a staff member who's more prepared for that. I just found it a bit difficult to understand if it's your profession to be an expert but not be able to not tie a Kimono/Yukata. Perhaps I'm being a bit harsh but I want people to what to expect. Overall my experience was great, I do want to support the store despite knowing some items could be a bit pricier. Definitely a hidden gem if you are on the hunt for Japanese Antiques!

One of many precious shops set in old Ellicott, this particular location -as one might guess from…read morethe name- is housed in an old bank. Originally built in 1906, the elegant little spot still has the rather charming bars on its windows and the enterprising owners have repurposed the delightful antique vault as the changing room. It's worth stepping inside just to get a look at the old vault door, carefully fixed open so you can see the mechanism and so that it can't close on a hapless shopper. The merchandise is a delightful mixture of true vintage and vintage style, with a matching range of prices so there's a bit of something for everyone. The second floor is the 'lavender shop' with soaps and so on, and a lot of handy but expendable gifting ideas. The third houses the art gallery, with some lovely pieces on view. Five minutes or fifty can easily be spent in the place, depending on if you'd like a quick peek or a lengthy perusal. I myself need to go back when I don't have an impatient sister in tow.
