Purchased from this auction house on HiBid. The framed print was advertised as antique from the 19th century and on the listing it noted that 5-10 dollars would be added for shipping and handling costs. It even said that the poster had an original tax stamp on it. To my surprise shipping was $99 and the frame arrived shattered. The poster was a cheap 21st century reproduction and even the stamp was printed on!! I bid $50 and would have bid higher thinking it was an original piece. When I called the auction house scared about shipping costs, they threatened to have me banned from this action and others on hibid. Beware of this auction house as it may be a scam and/or false advertisement. Edit: the owner replied to my review and another recent review saying they never did business with us. He is a liar. I even attached a photo of what I bought and I'm pretty sure he's the man I spoke to on the phone. I purchased an amazing antique parasol from Italy in its original box for a price that was more then fair. I was offered a discount if anyone in my family was or had been military and then offered even more off if I purchased today. But what really impressed me was how friendly and fun the owners were. We stood and talked and joked around with them for a good amount of time. Do I need to buy more antique? No! But I will almost certainly return to "look" around again. The store is full of beautiful, fun and unusual items. Well worth visiting. read more

Don't go here unless you like being ignored!! I am a true antiquer!! I visited this shop yesterday and from the moment I walked in I was made to feel ignored and uncomfortable. I was not greeted or acknowledged upon entering. Even as I was looking around I was completely ignored!! Don't waist your time here. Not only are they over priced but add rude to the mix. Downsizing after 60+ years of marriage and collection of a variety household items. l connected with Mike, the owner, via email and received a prompt reply explaining the three ways they worked when working with situations like ours. These three options made sense, especially the on line auction he runs periodically...he offered to come to our home to review potential items that would be suitable for their services...spent the entire day reviewing and commenting on many items...dual value of guidance on what to expect and the means to achieve. Last, but not least, online auction occurred as he indicated and was followed by a timely and detailed report of results and payment. Two other important points...very easy and enjoyable to work with and scaled commissions based on sale prices vs. straight 50/50 arrangement we find at most consignment shops...highly recommend !!! read more

I was surprised to come here and find a lack of reviews. My husband and I made a short and lovely day trip to Annapolis and stumbled onto this shop. We had a great time talking with the owners, who regaled us with knowledge of their items and experiences. My husband, a nerd about astronomy, was particularly interested in seeing if they had a sextant, which they did, and had a great time examining and trying to use it. The owners had no problem showing us items. We were *not* pressured into buying anything, and they genuinely seemed happy to engage us in conversation. I ended up buying some vintage ladies home journals on a whim, after randomly finding them on a table. I just liked how they looked, and for a very low price was able to get a bundle. We had so much fun just walking around and looking at the items. We can't wait to come back when we're ready to make a bigger purchase for our future home! read more

Call it was it is, a museum. Every item I looked at was severely overpriced. I noticed this as soon as I walked in the door and saw an item marked up over 700%. That's not a typo. Having just been to another antiques store a few door up, and having purchased similar items t reasonable prices, I was shocked. It continued. Just astronomically priced on every single item that caught my eye. All the time, the owner had a story for every item I looked at which made me feel pressured. Sure, there were a lot of items I wanted to buy, however not marked up to "I don't want to sell it" prices. read more

Absolutely the BEST experience I've ever had at an antique store! I was visiting from San Diego and wanted to bring a unique souvenir home for my antique obsessed husband. After stopping at the Paca house, we wandered into Blue Crab Antiques. There were so many interesting items, I just didn't know where to start. I told the guy at the front about my husband's interests and he immediately brought out the most amazing gift. He went above and beyond to accommodate me and even helped with some tips on how to travel with it safely back home. Great selection and even greater customer service! This guy will tell your stuff is worth a whole bunch when he wants you to leave it in his store. Suddenly it's worthless when you go to pick up your check. Do not consign with this guy and don't trust him. Update: I don't know why it says : Booth Bay Harbor Maine. I am talking about Blue Crab in Annapolis Md. And my name would not be on the record because it was an estate issue and done through an Estate Executor. But trust me when I say I was there dealing with this situation. Out of all the antique stores that I have visited in Annapolis, this one is my favorite. It's not the biggest but they have a nice selection of goods and trinkets to keep your eyes busy without it being too overwhelming or cramped. There is nice lighting and I easily spend several minutes looking at this and pondering over that. If I had kept everything that I have ever owned, imagine how much it would be worth one day. But then I would be considered a hoarder and that would be horrible. read more

This place is packed with a lot of interesting items and elegant pieces I don't always see in other shops, I'll give them that. I've been in there a few times now but the prices were pretty high (and that may be justifiably so - I have no idea what things are worth - I just know they're pricier than other places.) The people there are definitely business people, understand marketing and are open to haggling. But when I read Mariana O's and Eric D's comments (and the owner's very personal, overly defensive replies) about the ambiance and demeanor of the gentleman who works there (don't know if he's an owner or manager,) I have to admit that rang a little true for my experience, as well. One moment, in particular, exemplifies what I mean ... I inquired on the price of an item ... a fire tool kit ... the price was about $600 outside of my price range (which is fine - it was a nice set) so he said, rather shortly, "make me an offer." ... If the piece was worth what he was asking, my offer would have been an insult - I told him so and said thank you ... he got visibly agitated because I refused to haggle. Anyway, I can't give 'em a one star cause the stuff is nice but I agree with Mariana O, there's more to a pleasant antiquing experience than high-end antiques. read more

I received my pony in wonderful condition in a timely matter considering all of the storms we had to wait out! Along with my pony I received a Christy's London hatbox that my husband surprised me with. The shipping company that Blue Crab chose did a wonderful job of wrapping my carousel pony and a delicate hatbox. They were timely as well. I'm afraid this isn't my first choice for a pleasant browsing experience along the beautiful antique row of Maryland Ave in Historic Annapolis. Although stuffed full of interesting knick knacks, this shop unfortunately lacks the charming personality and welcoming atmosphere that accompanies the other Maryland Ave stores. A truly pleasurable antiquing experience should always be offered in the vein of leisurely browsing, pleasant and knowledgable staff, and leave you with a feeling of wanting to visit again. I left this store feeling guilty for not buying something after being pressured and slightly hounded. Buyer beware Our experience with this shop owner was not good. We were going to buy a light fixture from them they identified as a "Handel" (a desirable maker from the early 1900's) and priced accordingly. After doing our research and consulting with knowledgable lighting folks that pointed out tell tale characteristics that would eliminate it as such we concluded that the fixture was not a Handel. We were polite and nonconfrontational in our corespondence and asked them to cancel the sale. The response was nasty, accusatory and threatening. My conclusion is that these folks can be very unprofessional and are not dependable when it comes to knowledge and expertise. Ethics.......I just don't know, gotta wonder. read more

I went online to look up Blue Crab Antiques website. Stumbled on yelp and read the reviews. I have to wonder if a couple of the people writing the reviews are talking about the correct store? Earlier this week I shopped at this antique store. They carry real museum quality antiques and real vintage and antique jewelry. Yes, the real thing will come with a hefty price tag, one should not expect anything else. I am going back for more. This time I will be shopping online at www.bluecrabantiques.com they have an online store as well as an eBay store and they ship so I don't need to travel with my purchases! I had some items on consignment. I went in to make an inquiry because one piece was broken when I retrieved it. I don't know when, how, or where it happened. By simply trying to discuss the matter, the owner went crazy. He yelled at me and called me names. He was so disrespectful. I told him that he did not have my permission to speak to me in that manner. He stood up and got louder and called me a criminal. He then called the police. I met one officer outside the shop, and the owner came out and told me to leave the sidewalk. I reminded him that he did not own the public street. I never received a final accounting. I'm not saying that he damaged my items. I'm writing so that others are aware of his behavior. So beware and take a bodyguard in case you are not welcomed. Husband and wife (on site owners) latched onto me as I entered the shop, and were breathing down my neck as I tried to navigate the tight quarters and not bump into stuff (very small shop). I was a consigner there for about a year or more. Husband and Wife Ripped me off and kept my last item stated that I had abandoned it, which was incorrect. I would never again deal with either of them, they are unprofessional and dishonest. The public needs to know. read more

I had a truly HORRIBLE experience with this business over my most recent purchase of an accordion on Ebay. The item was shipped improperly (literally just stuffed the accordion with some packing materials into the case, put the case in a box and shipped it on its way. Anyone who ships accordions and knows what they are doing would put the accordion case in another box with packing peanuts or the like for added protection. You have to treat an accordion like glass!!) and was damaged during shipping. They took NO responsibility for the damages to the item, including refusing to go to the USPS and filing a claim, wanting me to do it for them (they told me it was impossible for them to do so given the fact that I had the damaged instrument, although this didn't stop them from filing the claim after Ebay clarified that it WAS their responsibility to file the claim). This seller knew NOTHING about the instrument she was selling other than she heard its former owner play it once for her in the store. To dissuade me from filing a claim to return the damaged instrument she sent me VERY inappropriate emails about why they were selling the instrument (something about a man with muscle dystrophy and how the accordion needed to be sold to put his daughter through college) and ultimately when I threatened to file a claim through Ebay about the dispute she called me directly and verbally insulted me over the phone. The entire week long interaction with them over email/phone trying to resolve the issue while protecting myself and my 550.00 dollar investment in an accordion that came to be UNPLAYABLE was nothing short of bullying and harassment, and it all led me to eventually filing a claim. To end this shortly, they tried accusing me of FRAUD and COERCION after all I did to resolve the issue was communicate with Ebay my rights and what was appropriate of me to do. Eventually got refunded the several hundred dollars it will cost me to repair the instrument through Ebay, no thanks to these people. Overall a very rude and defensive antiques dealer, they don't like being wrong and ignorant about what they are trying to sell. All I can say is THANK GOD FOR EBAY BUYERS PROTECTION! read more
