This spot is relaxing with beautiful scenic views. We arrived around 10 am.. when we were leaving it seemed crowded, so I suggest the earlier you arrive the better. There is signs that lead you to the hot spring that make it easy to get there. It is hot , there's no shade in the hot spring so wear a hat or lather up in sunscreen. The people there were friendly, we all asked around for the best hot springs. When people leave they let you know. Overall nice atmosphere. Only con is I wish the water was more clear... it was more algae murky water. Nonetheless we got in and had a great relaxing time. read more

You'll see an old post before the pools and there is a good view. The temp in it was about 100°. There were a few folks in some pools by the parking area but there's no view there. Based on the flow down the hill, I'd bet there are other pools or potential for them. read more

Yes, visit if you're in the neighborhood! There was lots to explore, even with kids. During our visit on Thanksgiving week 2021, the hot springs were still a tad to hot for us, but others seem to have enjoyed it though. There are not many natural hot springs have aren't controlled. This place is 100% natural. It is a little tricky to find the dirt road. If you are coming from downtown Bridgeport, you make a left before the ranger station. Just keep going straight down the paved road, up to the dirt path. Keep your faith and keep driving up till you reach a parking lot. -There is 1 pool next to the parking lot. We didn't get to sit in there. What I liked is it had carpet laid out for you to sunbath or recover from the heat. -Down the path located along a large rock are 4 tubs. Each one is a Goldilocks temperature, hot to luke warm. -Along the field are 3 mini pools just going slightly left of the four pools towards the valley. 2 that are connected. Just about 20 feet further is a very deep and dark pool. If you're brave, check that one out. I was too scared to go in. Enjoy this geological gem read more

Supposedly California's best hot spring. It does live up to the hype. A quick drive off Jack Sawyer Road off the Hwy 395 onto a dirt path will get you here. Everything is well marked and there are park rangers on site, either on foot, bicycle or a car. A parking lot and restroom are on site. A quick 300 yard walk will get you to the hot spring. My group was lollygagging too long and a couple beat us to the hot springs. Unfortunately they went in nude and the people we were with were not comfortable going in with their children. Lucky them! They had the hot springs all to their selves. We walked around a bit more looking for another hot spring that would fit all 10 of us. We found a couple, but they weren't deep of big enough. Finally, off to the left hand side of the main springs, we found one. It was such a great experience. Warm, relaxing and just a great start to the day. Beware, depending on the time of year, it does get hot and there is no shade! Lather that sunscreen, bring a hat and sunglasses. As always, be respectful on the trails! -- DIRECTIONS -- From 395 turn onto Jack Sawyer Road. It'll take ~5 minutes coming from Bridgeport. At the first fork turn left. The road will turn into a dirt road for ~1 mile it's pretty bumpy so drive carefully.. There's a couple forks but just look for the Travertine Hot Springs Signs (which aren't always at the forks you have to look farther sometimes). Eventually you'll reach a parking lot with a toilet. You can park anywhere along the side. From parking lot you will see one spring directly in front. Walk past this one to the left and there should be two rocks slightly blocking an entrance. Walk through these and follow the path and you'll be taken to the other 4 springs. Each of the springs vary in temperature.. one of them was just too hot to get into. The pools are a lot smaller than what I imagined but still very cool. You will just have to share the pools with the others. Definitely worth the trip out! read more

This was as good as it gets. First, directions weren't the best, there's a very hot pool right next to the parking lot. Like 2 feet away. No one seems to see that one. It's even carpeted. We hiked the 300 foot walk or so to the 4 pools that go from luke warm to warmer and arrived at 6am. Only one other person was there and it was great. Unlike a review from yesterday, the current California fire didn't hurt our views of the mountains. I highly recommend. Pros: - The pool steps away from the parking lot is about as handicap accessible as a natural hot spring will ever be. I highly recommend that for any ambulatory but disabled people. - The 4 main pools were awesome and reasonably secluded - There are additional pools a bit farther away. Cons: - Signs would be nice. There's an easy way to get to the 4 main pools that doesn't involve going up steps, but it's not obvious. - At 6am it was 50 degrees outside and the pool water was a bit cold. It was about a 2.5 hour drive from Yosemite. Along the way was a quite unreal drive along Tioga Pass (Hwy 120) where we saw a skateboarder zooming past cars along the center divide. From 120, you make a left onto 395 (north I think) near Mono Lake, then a left onto Jack Sawyer Rd. You follow into it on a dusty road for about a mile. You'll see parked cars, a small hot spring on your right, and a small restroom. The area is really dry and pretty bare. There were about 20 of us in the group. One of the closest hot springs is made up of 3 pools that vary in temperature and size. When we got there, there seemed to be 2 smaller groups already there. 4 of us girls jumped into the smallest pool first. As one group left, the other group transferred into the hottest pool. This is when we learned the hot springs are clothing optional...we saw some buttcracks, balls, and wee-wees. In our group, everyone wore bathing suits thankfully. Eventually, we took over all 3 pools. Anyway, the hot springs felt amazing after a loooong 3 days of camping. And best of all, they're free! read more

So we were pleasantly surprised to find only 3 other people at Travertine hot springs on a recent Sunday morning. It looks like that may be the time to go! These hot springs aren't far from town & you can drive right up to them. The road isn't paved but it seems like most cars would be able to make the short 2 or so mile drive to the parking lot. There's even a pit toilet there...hooray for sanitation! I'm sure this place gets a lot of people traffic as you can see cigarette butts & bottle caps strewn around. But for the most part it is clean, and the view cannot be beat! You can soak in one of the pools & take in the gorgeous view of the Bridgeport valley & the Sierras in the distance. It must be amazing in the winter, so I plan on going back in December. read more

It's 9 degrees in Bridgeport and high 20s by the springs. The feeling of being immersed in hot hot water bubbling up from the earth while surrounded by piles of soft white snow is an incredible way to soak in the new year. On a sunny day it won't even seem that cold, I could lay outside in my swimsuit and work on my tan. But the snow sure wasn't melting. In winter, 4 wheel drive is a must. The road might be plowed up to the gun range and no further. You hippies are on your own the rest of the way. And that might be why there was almost no other people there. read more

I'm not sure how Travertine Hot Spring could be any better, other than a paved road and better signage, so any time you are close to the area you need to stop off for a quick soak with a breathtaking view. I was visiting Bridgeport on a long, late summer trip through the eastern sierra and saw online BLM info that there was a hot spring nearby. I headed down the road from town about an hour before sunset in my sedan. I spotted the dirt road near a curve in the road in an industrial area with a BLM sign and pulled off. The dirt road is not the best, you really need a high clearance vehicle to get the whole way safely. I don't recommend heading up in a sedan when the road is wet/muddy. I found a pullout after navigating a couple different junctions and walked the rest of the way up. When you get there, you will see the first pool with the travertine mineral formations all around. Skip this pool and head out to the east to find the main, boiling spring. It is a short hike and they have pit toilets at the parking area. There are benches to sit on and there are a half dozen pools made from rock, cement and the stone. You will see amazing patterns in the stone that has been shaped by ages of mineral deposition in reds, whites, yellows and oranges. Because I came near sunset, I had a truly fantastic view of the valley. The mountains on the other side are quite beautiful, and I bet with snow they are spectacular. Careful for the very hot water coming out of the spring, as the temperature varies significant. Any time you drive on 395 past Bridgeport, you need to veer off and jump in some amazing hot springs at Travertine. read more

This review is dedicated to The Commodore, who had told me about this spot before I ventured up to the Eastern Sierras last summer. Travertine Springs could easily be the most gorgeous of hot springs in the East Sierras - from the sheer beauty of the geologic formation itself to the snow-capped peaks of the Sierras as your backdrop whilst you soak your worries away. To get here, head east up into the hills behind the ranger station just south of Bridgeport off 395. After about 1.5-2 miles, you'll see a sign letting you know you're heading in the right direction. There are two parking areas that I could see; the one further back has a public toilet. The lower pools are located just about 100 feet from the lot. There's supposed to be another spring higher up, but I only visited the lower springs during my trip. The lower spring is divided up into three pools, where the heated waters from the hillside pour directly into the easternmost pool, then slowly drains to the other two pools. Because of this, the temperatures of the other pools are slightly less hot as the water drains. I preferred the temp of the middle pool to the scalding temp of the first pool, but maybe you like a good traditional Japanese soak (where you practically burn your skin off). Please note that this is an EXTREMELY popular hot spring, and is frequented by locals and tourists day and night, year-round. You might have to wait your turn if the pools are all full. When I went, I gave a couple their privacy before going in for a bit after they left. I only had to wait an hour, which really isn't that long considering there are some nice hiking trails throughout the area to keep you busy while you wait. I had the pools to myself for a good half hour before another local came to join in. My kid sat patiently on the ridge between pools 1 and 2 while I enjoyed myself. Such an awesome place! There are many pools that are very different than each other. The first are a set of pools, they have the green algae growing on the stalactites that you see in pictures. The next pools are full of smooth sediment, and sitting in it makes you feel like a god! The last pool is the nicest, and it has a spectacular view. This one is about a quarter of a mile from the parking lot. To get here, go to the cliff, or west, or towards the sawtooth mountains. In the valley, you will see a telephone pole with no wires. Walk towards this, and you will meet the spring. It includes crystal clear water and a wooden log bench. Beautiful! Note there are pit toilets by the parking lot, but there are no showers. I recommend bringing a big bottle of water to get the dirt off your feet. read more

Being a secret, free hot springs in the middle of nowhere California, this is about as natural and surreal as it gets. I took my honda accord on the road and you had to be careful to get there, but once you do, strip it all off and go for it. Very relaxing and normally very friendly people around. Water isn't too hot. Please take your trash with you and keep it natural and clean before they close it down or regulate it. read more

Great location to turn off the road if you are passing on your way to Lake Tahoe or Yosemite. There is a dirt road but its not that bad, there were all kinds of cars in the parking lot that had no issues getting there. The place is super cool however, its not exactly a secret location. We had a nice time but a family of 4 was there with two viscous yapping dogs (unleashed) that attacked my husband and barked incessantly. The dogs and baby were in the hot water with the people. Afterwards the woman changed the baby's diaper in the parking lot. He didn't have swim pants on so I don't think this place is very sanitary. Also there was a young woman that we were sharing the hot pool with and she got a terrible nose bleed. When I saw the blood pour into the water, we quickly exited. Still the fossilized coral and the setting is beautiful. The experience was dampened by the sanitation concerns, the dogs, and the rude pet owners. read more

I read about the secret pools of Travertine via Yelp (thanks yelpers!!). My girls and I finally found this hidden road - blink and you will miss it. It is located off a industrial area--can't recall but is close to the Sheriff building off Main Street as you head toward Mono City off Hwy 395 . I followed a rocky dirty road to find after I found the sign (its bump..so hopefully your car has some good shocks). Once we got there we found a few cars--3-4. There was a bathroom, but it was not clean and being that it was a hot day..smell and flies was an over abundance. Dogs were not allow around the pool but I saw a couple who apparently did not see that or care as their dog went into the kid pool. I wanted to warn another family in regards as their child was heading that way, but I was already hiking up the hill by then with my girls. They really need a HUGE sign in front of that kid pool to really enforce that for dog owners.. The girls and I headed to search for the bigger pool. On the way we got distracted with our sight seeing and somehow took a left instead of a right and walked right bypass the pools. Its not really far from the parking area lot..so if you're still walking after 20minutes.. turn around you're lost in the world of sage bushes. Watch out for snakes in the bushes as well if you decide to hike around. Lots of things to see around and in the air--definitely you know you are in Adam Ansel country. The pool water were warm to hot and I felt like Goldilocks testing out each pool. One was too hot, one was really "muddy"-- at last one was just right!! TIP ALERT: Bring towels with you so you don't have to go back all wet and muddy. I read there's a lot of nudist that visit that place-- we were there around 12-3pm so maybe it was before the nudist arrives. Everyone had clothes on and was better cover then most beaches and local pool. We meet a few visitors from Las Vegas-- they were on a boy trip and brought some adult beverages with them. My 6 & 8 year old girls were entertained for sure and the boys were on their best behavior with them. Not sure what happen after we left. Sure it was a fun night at the pool. Would love to come back anytime we visit Bridgeport. read more

How the water gets into them .via a huge rock . I sat up to my knees. As we were leaving a group of 4 guys were coming in..no auita2. Another spot down further was a larger poil and quite a hike. When you get to the first four hot springs here you can continue to walk on the trail to get to another small and private hot spring. We love natural and free hot springs especially with a view. We woke up at 5am just so that we could enjoy this hot springs all to ourselves. I love hot water. Now there is one things to note if you have never been to a wild hot springs.  I'm not sure if clothing is required here but over the years of experience with natural hot springs is that a few will be sitting in the hot springs nude. We have had an experience like this in a different hot springs when our children were little but the good thing is that the water is not clear and our children were too young and did not notice anything. If you are like us and you would rather not see or have your children see nude people then come early or send your husband to check out the hot springs before you take your entire crew. Evenings are probably not the best times because many come here to relax. With all that said I hope that you will still make the effort to come to this hot springs. It is one of my favorites. The great thing about natural hot springs is the temperature of the hot springs varies. The closer you sit by the water source the hotter it is. read more

Came here in the beginning of December and would def do it again! It was freezing but the hot spring was perfect! My 4 & 6 year old loved it as well. When we got there, a guy was getting dressed to leave so we ended up getting the whole place to ourselves for a good 2 hours before another family showed up. We got there at 8am, by the time we left which was 11:30ish 2 other family's showed up..There was enough snow for the kids to enjoy also. The backdrop of the mountains were covered in snow so it was a beautiful view! I would definitely recommend you take a 4wd here during the winter since the off road to get to the hot springs doesn't get paved, so it's pretty much covered in snow. read more

**As with all my hot spring reviews, I'm starting this out with a plea/admonition: I get a lot of guff from hot springs regulars for my "irresponsible" compulsion to share hot springs info with the world -- I guess the old-timers are afraid that the more people know about these places, the worse condition they will end up in. I steadfastly maintain that sharing is caring, and that to hoard these locations is greedy and selfish...so I'm sharing this info here with the request that, if you visit these springs, PLEASE be respectful and PACK OUT YOUR TRASH!!! I've see so many hot springs strewn with gross litter (including human and pet waste) that it really turns my stomach.** I spent the other day frolicking nude outdoors, with three naked lesbians! Sound hot? Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but this ain't the Spice Channel. The only hot thing was the water! I was en route from Tahoe to Vegas and decided to make a slight detour to these springs, located very conveniently just off US 395 south of Bridgeport. They were great -- very accessible, even if you don't have 4WD or a high-clearance vehicle. From the highway, it's an easy 5-minute drive up a dirt road, with ample parking and vault toilets. The pools are totally rustic and natural (the upper one has a cement bottom, but the others are full of that nice mucky hot springs mud which can be plastered all over oneself to draw out toxins and whatnot). And even though they are located RIGHT off the highway, they still feel secluded and peaceful. I went on the day after Xmas, and wasn't sure what I'd find. I like a nice naked soak, but when I got there, there was another clothed couple bathing and I didn't want to weird 'em out. Plus, I haven't shaved my pubes or armpits since Burning Man, so they're pretty gnarly! But the nice couple left, and the three aforementioned lesbians took their place. They immediately began stripping down naked, so I did, too -- when in Rome, ya know. Besides, their bushes put mine to SHAME (these were NOT lipstick lesbians)! We had a great soak in the middle pool, under the auspices of the Clay Clit (the nickname for the distinctive clay rock formation on one end of the pool, from which flow the waters of Life). It was great! I could finally let down my (pubic) hair, without worrying about guys judging me. I will definitely come here again...but be advised: for hot lesbian orgies, skip the springs and get a room in Bridgeport that offers the Spice Channel. read more

I suppose the experience here can really vary, depending on who else is enjoying the springs along with you. The past Yelp reviews made me a little wary of this place. Specifically, the one about the mud being full of "hippie hair." It's true that the relatively easy access of Travertine makes it potentially more crowded than other hot springs in the area. Lucky for us, there were only 3 people at the springs when we visited on a Sunday morning. Best of all, they were cool, mellow folks. The springs are of a decent size, and vary in temperature. The surrounding area is beautiful and some springs have a nice view of tiny downtown Bridgeport. There's also a pit toilet (gross, but better than nothing) and a picnic table on site. It could seem a bit unhygienic with the amount of people frequenting but, it is still an amazing gem and find. When we arrived, it was empty so we dipped in all the warm pools at our first stop. The cool water dripping off the hot rocks were just beautiful. The walk to the first sight of the pools is no more than a few minutes from the parking area. If you continue on the trail for a few more minutes from the main pools, you will see a beautiful single pool with clear warm water. I would say, slightly on the warmer side. I recommend this one if you are visiting solo or with a partner. The pool is just large enough to house 2 people with little movement. If you bang a left from there, you will come up to a few more pools. These are in a more remote area and are likely not visited as much. Due to that reason, the rocks in the pools are slimy and the water is on the murky side. The temperature is the highest here. I was only able to dip my feet in for a minute. Next to the remote pool is a large pond of cold water if you need to cool off. I have no idea where the cool water is coming from though. The floor of this pool was filled with some type of light brownish algae and it was the most murky. My friend dipped his feet in and said it was cold. I will just take his word. read more

This place is the reason I will no longer laugh at travel guide books. So unassuming and I would have never known it was there. There was no marker from the highway, just a dirt road that winded a bit that made you wonder if you were going to the right place. I think we saw all the pools, except the one furthest down. We were told the water is hottest up top. If you're venturing into the cluster of pools, you'll notice (if the naked man in there doesn't mind) that the pool on the far right is the hottest and it gets progressively cooler with each pool on the left. Being that I love to sit in a broth of tepid unwashed hippie froth, I love this place. I mean, what better way to spend an afternoon than sitting in an 85 degree bath that some dude(s) just railed a haggard 50 year old outdoorsy type woman in? Another plus is that it is literally downrage from the local rifle range. Watch for riccochets! My favorite thing to do is drive by the range on the way back from the springs and scoul at the people shooting firearms in the designated area. read more
