Amazing natural Hot springs. We stopped by here on our way from Tahoe to Mammoth and really enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the natural Hot springs which were really awesome. One tip if you get to the main springs try not to go to the one on the right which is the bigger pool because it's more stagnant water and so there were a lot of these red looking worms or maggots swimming in there. The smaller pool on the left is much cleaner as there are two mini waterfalls that are keeping the water circulating and fresh. Anything less than five stars is an injustice so a glowing five stars and two thumbs up for Travertine Hot Springs! read more

We visited the Travertine Hot Springs, it was more hyped up than it actually was. There were a few small tubs along the trail some were full of people and some werent as warm as others. The views were absolutely stunning though. The loop trail is a low impact loop thats a little over half mile. We did the loop trail and went down to the last tubs. We visited late September so it wasnt too warm outside, and chances of rain so the sky made the perfect backdrop for photos. It seemed as if more people were there for a photo shoot than to get in the tubs. We had kids with us and they were able to do the loop trail without difficulty. There are some restrooms in the parking lot but no other services are available. read more

Finally stopped at this place after passing it by so many times. Checked out the last tub first and made my way back the other way. It was really peaceful, quiet, and calm. Only saw a few couples who were all super friendly. Trails are super well maintained and well marked. The views are incredible and the temperature of the pools was perfect around noon. Very warm, but not too warm with the sun. Would definitely recommend taking the little 15 detour of a drive up and spending a little time here, even if you don't plan on getting in! A short drive on a dirt road will get you to the small parking lot. Thankfully there are bathrooms. We just changed in our car before and after the tubs. It's a casual walk around the loop to the pools. We went to the Last Tub first which had great mountain views. The pool it was warm, but definitely not hot. i enjoyed playing with the dark, thick mud in the pools. Then walked to the Sheep Dip pool which was a lot more crowded. People were cool and limited their time to give others the opportunity to experience the pool. Again, warm water, not hot. We made our way back to the car to change and be on our way. read more

It's 2 hours from Reno over 395 I must admit that the scenic route that this road has is incredible There are 4 different small pools in two of them the water is warm and in the other two it is hot. The water is clean, only it looks dirty because of the sediments on the ground. What I don't like is that in the pools there are some bugs that bite you horrible. Hearing that the clothing-optional Travertine Hot Springs is crowded, with difficult parking on weekends, I downed my coffee on a Monday morning and headed straight over. Parking was easy (the dirt access road ends in a parking lot with restrooms). Nearest the parking lot sits a single bubbling pool and the two people (both wearing bathing suits) who were using it were getting out when I approached. "It's too hot for me" declared the gentleman, "but not for her" he reported, cocking his head towards his partner. Another man stood nearby, swilling his coffee as I tentatively made my way into the pool. Initially too hot for me as well, I inched my way in for a soak. The man standing nearby knew a thing or two about natural thermal springs though, and while we chatted he used a rock and a funky old sock to divert some of the boiling water from the pool I was inching into, helping the pool to cool a bit. The rest of the pools were down nearby paths and described as "about a football field away". This single pool however - which I came to learn is generally always occupied - proved satisfying enough for a morning soak and I ventured no further. Travertine Hot Springs was the first location listed in the Discoverer blog's "7 Must-See Hot Springs in the U.S." post. The pool I sat in was perfectly fine though I've experienced nicer hot springs in the U.S. in the past. The blog post mentions the stunning views of the Sierras and that's accurate though it would be difficult, in these parts, for anyplace not to feature such views. If you're in the area, enjoy thermal hot springs, and are seeking a cost-free activity, Travertine Hot Springs is certainly worth a visit regardless of whether or not you've packed a swimsuit. read more

Travertine Hot Springs is beautiful, off the grid, and so worth walking an hour to get there. If you ask me, going here during off season is 100% worth it. No crowds, quiet, and you're literally alone in a hot spring with amazing views of the mountains and snow. My friend and I came in early February. The snow was pretty high that even in my Jeep, it would be impossible to drive to the actual Travertine parking lot. So what did we do? We parked and walked an hour in snow just to get there. It was totally worth the difficulty of walking in fresh powdered snow haha. There even came to a point where we thought about turning back but I'm so glad we didn't. Once you get there, you'll see a man-made hot spring and if you keep walking further you'll see plenty of secluded hot springs along the way. It was cold and snowy, but the water was boiling hot that it made every part of my body feel relaxed. Hell, if you can, get in naked because it's worth it lol. The hot mineral water is eggy but boy does it feel so good on your skin. Again, if you're capable and willing, 100% come during off season. No crowds and you'll have everything to yourself. "The Discoverer Blog" recently featured "7 Must-See Hot Springs in the U.S." At the top of the list was Travertine Hot Springs! Since it is only a couple hours drive from Reno, we decided to take a day trip there to check it out. At Bridgeport, you take a bumpy, but fairly wide, dirt road to get to the parking lot. When we arrived there were several other cars there already but had no trouble getting a spot. We took a short path to find the hot springs featured in most of the photos of Travertine Hot Springs. Since there were several people there already, we decided to hike around and explore the area. The surroundings here are breathtakingly beautiful! As we walked around, we were struck by all of the salt caked in clumps on the ground that looked a lot like snow. We also come across several other pools but they are not hot at all. By the time we made our way back to the main pools one was empty, so we were able to soak for a little while. The water was warm, not hot, but it was a lovely experience and a nice little getaway. read more

Travertine Hot Spring is a beautiful hot spring. This hot spring is easy to find and close to the town of Bridgeport. It's located up a bumpy dirt road, but if you take it slow, even a sedan can do it. Unfortunately, this means it's incredibly busy. If the parking lot is full, or even close to full, don't bother proceeding unless you are prepared to wait it out. There's a small-medium sized parking lot with a bathroom facility (I didn't go in, so I can't speak to its quality). There's a small 3 person hot spring located right in the parking lot. It's certainly not the most scenic hot spring, but it's the one we ended up doing our soak in. This one is easiest to wait your turn for; there's a picnic table right next to the hot spring. We just waited in our camper van since we could see when the people in it were ready to get out. We had walked down to the main hot spring area, but they were crazy busy. Those hot springs are certainly more idyllic as they're nestled into the rock. There's 4 or 5 hot springs there. The largest one fits about 6-8 people, and the others fit 2 people. The bigger one is the prettiest by far with a little waterfall cascading in, but good luck getting that one. There was a larger party in there when we arrived that didn't look they would be getting out anytime soon. I think the one next to it is a bit bigger too. The others around the other side of the rock are smaller. The other smaller ones were full too; the last one was open, but it's way too shallow and it was only luke warm. The people in the one over said the one they were in was no warmer, but it was deeper. At least they could sit in that one. I didn't test the water temperature of the other ones since obviously people were in it and these are Covid Times. We didn't want to wait it out, so we went back up to the parking lot one. There are other ones in the area that you can hike to, but we were with our baby and even after climbing up on a peak to have a look, I couldn't easily see where they were. If you're up for a hike and a bit of a treasure hunt, just wander off and see if you find one! Overall, this hot spring is awesome; it just can't handle the crowds that it gets now which is unfortunate. Your best best is to come at dawn and do a sunrise soak which sounds dreamy. Otherwise, be prepared to wait it out for a spot. PS: We camped just down the road on BLM land, and we could see/hear cars coming all night, so I think even a midnight soak might be busy. read more

Pretty sure the cat's out of the bag as it pertains to Travertine, so I guess I'll go ahead and throw in my two cents about it. Bottom line, it's an amazing experience every time I come here. I always get here prior to sunrise so for me, I'm always the only one in the hot spring for at least a couple hours. So my experiences there have always been relaxing and serene. However, I've been told that I can get rowdy and crowded here during the day and anytime during the summer. So your mileage may vary if you show up during those times. To reach it, turn onto Jack Sawyer road (either just before or after the Ranger Station, depending which way you're coming from) and keep to the left as it turns to dirt and goes up and over the hill. Keep driving until the dead end parking lot. There's a small hot spring in the lot itself, but the main pools are down a small trail that you can't miss (it starts to the right of the bathroom). As far as the condition of the road, my Chevy Cruze has made it up and over just fine, but I do need to take it easy in some spots. If you have high clearance, you'll have no issues. During the winter, though, I hear the road can get pretty rough due to weather damage. Finally, do keep in mind that this particular hot spring is a clothing optional one. I've seen more nude people here than clothed ones. So, with that in mind, bringing the kids may not be the best idea (unless, of course, you're completely fine with it). I've never encountered anyone disrespectful here, so I would like to think that if you did show up with your kids or you're already here with them, people would likely either remain clothed or put clothes on out of respect. Either way, just be prepared for that (very likely) possibility. read more

2024 Long drive back a dirt road to parking area. There is a bathroom there BUT IT IS NOT A CHANGING ROOM AS ADVERTISED. There is a slightly ribboned off area here. This is where the too hot wet area is. Not really a pool. There is a nice stone edged pathway with lovely flora and rock formations. It winds around to the larger pool. There's also an off trail path, A shortcut that visitors have made. This pool holds about 8 or so folks sitting in it. This is where the optional clothing folks hang out. No pun intended. We saw a small rocked off area out in the white plateau. A small creek trickles through and someone has damned up a couple areas to stick your feet in. We sat around the edge with our feet in and the two toddlers went in. The water was bathtub warm. We also noticed a softness to our skin as we dried them off and a real difference the next day. There is a scent "smell" to the area but really not too bad. So, a nice side trip, interesting and a soft skin benefit. We will pop back now and then. We were disappointed the posted pictures were NOTHING like we saw. read more

So relaxing... we got into the one closest to the parking lot. The water was perfect temperature and it felt so good in 50 F outside temp. The cool thing is it's free , the parking is free and there's a restroom at the parking lot. Nice scenery all around. There were some nice ones but they were all taken. I guess getting there early in the morning would be good. You can get into the good ones. We were a bit worried about the dirt road to get there but the drive there wasn't too bad. Travertine hot springs are hottttt ( and pretty shallow). The road to the hot spring is closed, so we had to walk a mile to the springs. There are about 5 of them, but my husband didn't want to put his body in b/c of the sulfur smell and potential germs. Trash was also piled up by the changing rooms, but the rest of the place was fairly clean. The juxtaposing scenery of the snow-tipped mountains vs the summer heat was interesting. It was cool! This is by far one of my favorite hot springs in California. The many small pools to soak in are hot and full of soft sediment at the bottom. The view is incredible and you feel very much out and away from the world. Due to it's location it's almost never crowded. The people who do hang out here are all totally chilled out and mostly local, be nice to them and they will tell you where to find some other great Hot Springs. I know some people have said it's dirty, I only know when I was there last it was clean. read more

Once you get to the parking area and restroom, there's a pool to the right, but more if you hike out a bit and another if you keep going. It was fairly busy when I visited... every pool had multiple people in it and yes, some were naked. This place was fantastic. Unfortunately, it was almost 90 degrees outside so I had absolutely no desire to dip myself into hot water. But plenty of people were doing it. This is a free, easily accessible, geologically amazing place to visit. And, if you want to immerse yourself in hot water from the bowels of the Earth, this is definitely the place to do it. There are all sorts of Hot Springs here. Everything ranging from way too hot to quite comfortable. And it is a geologically amazing place as well. It's one of the few hot springs where you can actually see the entire geologic process taking place. Bring a camera, take plenty of pictures. read more

When u park, one hot spring is right there just look around the parking area don't go past the hill. Great little spot to turn off the road if you are passing through on your way to Lake Tahoe or Yosemite! Just keep in mind that there is a little bit of dirt road to cross, however it's in good condition with just a few bumps here and there. No fees to pay. There is one toilet (hole in the ground), however no garbage facilities so please pick up your junk! Also, keep in mind that there are quite a few friendly, yet buck naked, hippies roaming around here so don't be startled! :D read more
