We were warmly greeted and seated on the enclosed porch overlooking the Rocca. It was such a pleasant setting. We decided to do just a first course. We had ttagliatelle al ragu (alla Bolognese) and Strozzapreti alla boscaiola (ham, porcini mushrooms and pine nuts). We enjoyed a 1/2 liter of their house red wine and water. Our total cost for this delicious meal was only € 30.

My wife had the lasagne for her entree, I had seafood. My wife said her lasagne was different from the last place she had it a couple days earlier in Bologna, but no less spectacular. I agreed, and my seafood was nothing less. The ambiance on a quiet side street (maybe in the Jewish quarter) was a great way to enjoy a Bolognese night.

You need to be introduced to this restaurant as it would off any visitor or tourists radar screen due its location in an isolated old farm house about 20 kilometers north of Bologna. This restaurant is truly unique and very special. Where to start? First, its located off the beaten track in the middle of farmland with no visable signage from a small country road. Second, the farm house dates back to 1820 and is constructed of hand hewned logs/planks and site cast bricks. Talk about "Old World" charm! Third, there is exactly one dinner seating at 8:00 PM sharp for no more than 30 patrons. Fourth and perhaps most unusual, there is no menu. Yup Yelpers - thats right; no menu! The restaurant prepares three special entrees per day as their offering. Patrons can sample any or all of them. I did and they were all superb. To cap it all off, our waiter brought the well stocked grappa cart to our table which featured one the largest bottles of grappa I've ever seen. Essentially, it looked like a 5 gallon Sparkletts bottle with some type of distillery dispenser attached creating a remarkable presentation. This was a simply a wonderful dining experience. They didn't have any tables outside so we were seated inside. Service (3.5/5): No WiFi unfortunately which isn't great for an international traveler like me. Standard European service. Not terribly friendly and not terribly efficient but I would say they were a bit more attentive than the norm. They did hook us up with some complimentary limoncello shots which was a really nice touch. Ambiance (3.5/5): A little quieter since it's off the beaten path which I like. A pleasant, homey restaurant. Drinks (4.5/5): We shared a bottle of wine. And the aforementioned limoncello shots. Food (4/5): We went with their pasta for two deal where each person gets three different types of pasta that you choose from six or so options. I love getting a variety of dishes so this was a nice way to do it. Not huge portions given the price but still delicious. The dishes were served to us quickly and we got to try some pastas we had never heard of. Overall: When in Bologna, Osteria Broccaindosso makes for a fine choice. It's a 15-minute walk or so from the center of town.

He then told Enzo to take care of his "new" friends. We decided that an offer like that can't be missed so we went there for lunch the nest day. My friend decided to give Enzo our go-ahead to bring out whatever he thought would put a smile on our faces. As you can see from the photo I posted, Enzo was table-side a lot, asking about preferences and potential allergies. We were treated to course after course of great, locally-sourced dishes, every one would be a signature dish for eateries over here in the USA. For example, he sprinkled Parmesan cheese on our risotto (etherial!) and added "aged thirty six months" - and it was rich, creamy and memorable. This small place deserves your attention and a high rating from anyone who understands what it takes to run a memorable restaurant that delivers quality, fair-priced food. In Maranello, the debate is always - Cavallino or Montana - the two most famous restaurants in town. Each has their fans - especially given their Ferrari-centered reputation (Ferrari big-wigs have a private dining room in Cavallino, F1 drivers have memorabilia all over the walls in Montana). However, having eaten at these other excellent places, this place beats them for service, taste, and price. Go, eat, you'll thank me later!

It was an amazing artichoke and cheese concoction with a shredded artichoke salad on the side. The pastas were all very good. The bolognese had tender meat with a tasty sauce. The tortellini in beef broth is also a local winter dish. The tortellini were filled with a nice mixture of beef and cheese with a full bodied beef broth. A simple but delicious dish! I'm usually not a truffle fan but the spaghetti with black truffles had a good balance of truffle flavor without being overpowering. The scalloping with cheese and Parma ham was tasty. The meat was tender, the cheese side decadent and the ham added a bit of salty flavor. We were too full for dessert!

I wasn't sure what to think, so I cut into it. The cutlet was so tender, the prosciutto crispy and the melted cheese covering it pulled the whole thing together, and it was fantastic. Braised rabbit with string beans was excellent. The most tender rabbit I have had any where, what a wonderful dish. The only thing I can comment on is the appetizer because that's all I had. I tried the sea scallops along with a local Veneto white wine and it was good. Service was adequate and ambiance was ok. The real ambiance is Chioggia with its Venice-like feel and small bridges spanning canals. I came more for the views than for the food and it was mid-day so I wasn't ready for a full meal. This was the only place I ate so you have to take this review in a vacuum. I could give more perspective if I tried a few other places in the area.
