We scheduled an appointment last Monday. He arrived on time. Within an hour, which included removing the dishwasher from the built-in cabinets and taking apart the inaccessible drain pump and impeller, he was able to remove what had blocked the flow of water as well as assuring me that the existing parts were not damaged. Strands of Saran/plastic film got behind the filter. I had removed some of the film (according to Bosch's troubleshooting manual) but the real work required disassembly that I wasn't comfortable doing. This was a very old stove in a rental property, and it did not make sense spending that kind of money to fix it.
