My Whirlpool Duet was broken due to a power surge, I did some research to the issue and was certain of the issue, and am under the impression that since the power surge was at fault to the city, I can be reimbursed should I provide proof of payment and whatnot. The part that is fried was the CCU, Central Control Unit, the first thing I did was look at the Whirlpool manufacturing website and saw the retail value, $284.56. So I called, told him my issue, told him what part I needed. He said he would have to come out anyways because "Google isn't always right". When 15 people have the same issue as you, and 15 people replace a part on their machine, and 15 people have fixed machines, Google is right. At this point he said it is their policy to come out and make sure that the part is the correct part needed, so they can guarantee they can fix it, which is fair enough. Here are when the issues start.
He comes over, diagnoses the issue as the CCU from the error code displayed, and tells me "I have good news and bad news." I said give me the bad news first. He said "You're looking at 350 for the part.". I already knew what the retail highest value directly from Whirlpool was, and he persists to say it is $350, so I asked him what the good news is, "I can be here tomorrow with the part and fix it". I told him that the retail price for the part is 280, how did he get the figure $350? He said, well, did you account for tax and shipping? I said you aren't shipping it over if you come here tomorrow to replace it, and I know for certain with the amount of customers you claim to have you aren't paying retail value for the part. I say to him, you pay below retail and and try to have me pay $30 above retail on top of the $140 it costs to have you come and replace the part? We come to an agreement of $320 for the part, and $140 to do his work. $460 total. He guaranteed me that he was paying the same amount if not more than the amount I was giving him, so I said he should have no issue providing invoice for the amount he paid and he said it would be no problem.
At this point I've been out of a washer for about a little over two weeks, and he knows that. He is scheduled to come out tomorrow but calls me at 2:40PM and says an appointment has opened up, and told me to have the cash for the order ready. I told him I will do it with an alternate method such as debit, credit, check, basically anything with a record because I need to prove the payment, he then says he is cancelling the order and I can use his services in the future but he is cancelling now he won't be coming in an hour and 20 minutes nor tomorrow, I need my washer fixed so I agree to pay cash. I hang up, call TorontoHydro and ask if him writing a receipt will suffice, they said they would need something signed and on an invoice from the company if the payment was done in cash, not just written on paper. I call Atair and explain this to him, he reiterates that we agreed on cash, and I said that's fine but I am going to need more than the agreement written on a piece of paper, I needed something with his companies name on it, he started making excuses saying he doesn't have paper and can't do that and hes not at the office, and hes not officially working today its his day off, just excuse after excuse until he says he can come by next week that's when the next available opening is.
I told him not to bother, I will not be pressured into paying with cash with no valid proof of payment so I can not get reimbursed by the city, because (speculating) you don't want to pay taxes.
He has shady business practices, bullying into getting his way, overcharges even above the highest retail value directly from the manufacturer and is just generally unpleasant to speak with.
I have an audio and video system at my home, a Dropcam that I conveniently leave recording whenever I have anyone coming over to my home to do work. Anything written in quotation marks is not hearsay, it is factual and I have video/audio proof of it.
Stay away from this company, stay away from Atiar more specifically if you value your sanity. Lets hope this review doesn't get buried by dozens of fake reviews like all the other negative ones. read more
