Last year the first one went out and was replaced at no charge to us by Rich A from Automated Living Solutions, as it was covered under our warranty with Canter Power Solutions. Early this year, two more needed to be replaced, yet when Rich did the exact same thing he had done a few months prior for the first module) he let us know there was a $660 bill and that it was not covered under warranty. We were confused, but giving him the benefit of the doubt, paid the bill. (We had the contract transferred to our names upon the purchase of our home about a year ago, and so are not particularly familiar with it having not been the ones that signed it.) Rich asked that the check be made out to his name rather than his business which also made me uncomfortable. We reached out to Canter for clarification on why this was not covered, and received multiple emails from Shelley Taylor (see a couple attached) letting us know that the charge was in error, the parts and labor were covered under warranty, and instructing Rich, the contractor, to refund the cost to us. (Interesting to note that the one positive review for this business is from Rich himself.) Long story short, they are now refusing to pay saying that it actually isn't covered by warranty. It has been over a month and I am still fighting with upper management at Canter to try and come to a resolution. I am beyond shocked at the experience I have had and would never ever recommend Automated Living Solutions.

Upon my return to Charleston, the following issues had to be addressed: 1. The fiber optic cable going into the home had been severed by the electricians who had pulled it out of the wall (versus properly unplugging it from the unit). AT&T had to have a service technician re-install the fiber optic cable the next day when I realized I had no Wi-Fi. 2. My heat wasn't working and I couldn't figure out why. After my husband went up into the crawl space the next day, he realized that the furnace's non-fused disconnect had been reconnected improperly (the 2-pole pullout had been reinserted upside down). 3. My dishwasher no longer worked. I called and reported it to the company. Sievert Electrical sent the same two-man crew who had done the job to fix this issue once we complained. The lead crew member told us that the dishwasher was old and needed to be replaced. Okay, sure. We spent $700 on a new dishwasher. Surprise, the new dishwasher wasn't working either. We found out that the problem was that two circuits (one of which was unused, the other connected to the dishwasher) had their neutral wires reversed. The new dishwasher worked immediately after the neutral wires were changed. So essentially we replaced a perfectly good dishwasher for no reason. (Of note, Sievert Electrical never responded to our email indicating we replaced the dishwasher and THEN found out it was an electrical issue, not a dishwasher issue). 4. Multiple electrical outlets had been installed sloppily and were either too recessed from the wall OR were sticking out of the wall such that there was a gap between the wall and the outlet covers. Sievert Electrical sent the same two-man crew to fix this issue once we complained and they fixed the problem. 5. All of the 3-way and 4-way switches were installed improperly and needed to be fixed so that one switch wasn't controlling the other switches (meaning that when I first arrived home, if one switch was in the "off" position, the rest of the switches wouldn't work). Sievert Electrical sent the same two-man crew to fix this issue once we complained. 6. The metal headboard of our bed was dented. Not a big deal because it is mostly on the back side of the headboard so it's not very noticeable when pushed back against the wall. But it would have been nice to have known about this issue before we walked back into the house for the first time in a month. 7. After the two-man crew returned the following week to correct some of the issues above, we noticed that several outlets which HAD been working were now no longer working. This time, Sievert sent a different crew to our house to take a look. They told us that the reason the outlets weren't working was because a wire came loose in a switch box that powered the room's outlets. They fixed the issue. We had a few estimates done for this job and Sievert Electrical was not the lowest. However, we chose this contractor because the gentleman who gave us the estimate was knowledgeable and personable and we felt very confident that the job would be done correctly after we spoke to him. However, given the number of issues we experienced, we would not recommend this contractor or at least not the specific crew who handled our job.

Well that's where my fiber connection is as well so my internet/cable was out. I tried flipping breakers and searching for GFI's to no avail when I decided to call the pros. I found a post on Park Circle Chatter and recommendations for Charleston Electrical Services were strong. It was late in the day so they set me up to have someone come out first thing the next morning. They came and checked things out and it was taking a while before he called the boss to come out as well. I was getting nervous at this point because there were now 3 electricians in the house and the first guy had been there for quite a while. I was expecting the bill to just be creeping up higher and higher and we still hadn't fixed the problem. Then the owner who came out asked me about a switch on the wall that I have a cover over... and a light bulb went off (pun intended). We have a switch that will turn off that whole circuit if you have lamps plugged in, but we put a cover over the switch so it won't mess with the TV/internet. Well the house cleaner didn't realize and switched it off looking for a light switch. Major facepalm for me because I had totally forgotten about that switch as we haven't flipped it in years. The owner was super nice and didn't charge me the full amount since the first guy didn't think to check for a switch like that. He also replaced the plug since it was a bit old anyway and he was already there. The price I ended up paying for a mornings worth of electricians trouble shooting in my house was very reasonable and because of their integrity in a situation like that, they will be my first call when something actually does go wrong.

After being told by first responders that my house would have exploded shortly, I knew we would be ever vigilant should we do this again. Al looked over the area and where the hook up valve was located and offered us sooooo many better options than where the builder had put it. He really knew his business and we were confident that for safety and aesthetics he was exactly the man for the job. And boy was he. He removed the old hook up valve which was poorly installed to start with( yes, this is a new home) and moved it to a much better location with all new hoses, connections and everything else needed for the job. Talk about a difference. He also had every tool for the job so there was no running back and forth to the store or back to the business. That was really nice. Carson, his apprentice was also incredibly helpful and found the wire needed in the grill to hook up to the starter. We were afraid that Lowe's wouldn't get there for the delivery in time and we would have to pay for another service call, but they made it just as they were finishing! A job WELL done!!
