STAY AWAY THEY BREAK MORE THAN THEY FIX !!!!!Garbs is a absolute nightmare and the worst possible…read moreplace my vehicle could have gone to. starting off i specifically requested a leak down and compression test be performed on my heads, which later proved to have not been done. I was fed false information repeatedly such as my transmission was being sent out (I was having NO transmission work being performed). After being quoted and given a ETA i was not informed until i physically went up there that the technician broke my pulley, my oil pump, & dropped trash in my heads causing further damage to my vehicle. In effort to get my vehicle back i had to pay even MORE money to repair the damage they caused. Now my vehicle has a oil leak from the oil pan they removed that had absolutely no business being touched had the technician not broken my oil pump and garbs has completely refused to repair anything, despite it only being 3 weeks from when the repairs were completed.

Great group of mechanics here!!…read more Today it was just a quick state inspection that they finished in about 20 minutes on my lunch break, but I have previous experience with the mechanics here that make me want to come back when my car needs some attention and I'm at work. Years ago I had an SUV that just died while I was getting gas nearby. I walked to McBroom's since it was the closest shop (right across a side street actually). I asked if I could use their phone to call a tow truck, but one of their mechanics volunteered to come and look at my SUV and try to start it for me. This went on for about an hour until he finally decided to tow it with his own truck to their garage. The next day, my car was running so I picked it up and drove it to my side of town. It died after about 20 minutes. So why such a glowing review if my truck/SUV wasn't actually fixed? I was charged nothing for the time and effort that this mechanic put into my car. Yes, he didn't totally fix it, but he did what he could to the best of his abilities and for FREE!! Most people in the Houston area wouldn't even bother to look at one of your troubled autos without agreeing to a $75-100 fee first! I guess McBroom's is just proof that while we all complain about mechanics there are still some good ones out there. You may just need to get out to the suburbs to find them!

A few months later the vehicle started having problems shifting again and the owner would not even look at it without charging us $$$. Yes, I'm a woman, but I'm not stupid, and he treated me very disrespectfully, completely ignoring me when I was describing the issue. Took it to another shop, they listened to the problem and didn't want to charge us for the diagnostic. We won't use A1 Champion Transmission on CE King again.

So I called Larry at Showcase Auto in Pasadena where I had recently bought a used truck--another great experience and 5-star review--for his recommendations knowing they were in the car business. Larry had only 1 tranny guy... Ken at A-1 Champion. I called A-1, and Ken answered and said bring it in for free check. Ken called me a couple hours later saying it was the TCM, and he could replace it and completely service the tranny for just over $800 (I feared it would be double that). Car was ready the very next day. Couple days later, it slipped out of gear at a stop light (ugh, I thought 'on no, here we go'). Called Ken and he said he would send a tow truck to pick it up. He called me that same day and said the torque converter had failed and damaged the pump (a $1,200 fix). Called him the next morning to discuss what I needed to do. He said 'just come pick up the car'. I was confused since I didn't authorize any work. He said he fixed it and the cost would be zero $$. I tried to at least cover labor but he wouldn't take it. Ken runs a tight shop and I could tell he is all business. The folks there are attentive, responsive, and focused on getting your car back to you quickly. My experience with A-1 was very good with quick and fair-priced repairs. They fixed only what needed fixing, instead of up-selling a bunch of unnecessary repairs. I appreciated they making sure it was done right, and standing behind their work. I will go here for all future tranny work, and would highly recommend A-1 Champion to my family and friends.

Keep in mind they hadn't even looked at it but there was a significant charge for even a code reader. I had already read mine and nothing was showing. I took it to A1 and Miguel said they would take a look at it.
