Dr. Douglas Magner is perhaps the worst and most unprofessional dentist I have ever had in my life…read more Not only is his "bedside manner" the worst as a doctor, he damaged my teeth so badly, I required TWO appointments from an emergency dentist and another dentist to completely redo his lazy work. Went in to have a cavity filled, only to walk into him screaming at the receptionist in front of patients. Could hear him arguing with a patient in the next room, and when he came to me (finally) I had to ASK for him to wear gloves please. I could tell at the time he was not doing due diligence on my mouth and trying to up-sell me on orthodontia (which I already have, and I still have the metal bar in my mouth...to which the dentist who ACTUALLY fixed my teeth asked WHY because my teeth look great) He completely botched my filling -- I ended up in an emergency dentist a week later, narrowly avoiding a root canal. And now, about a year later, I went to my childhood family dentist and he was horrified by what Dr. Magner had done to my mouth (so for the record, this is the SECOND appointment I had to have to FIX the damage that Dr. Magner had done to my mouth). In addition to the emergency procedure, I had to have the entire filling removed and redone because he had done it so lazily that there was a gap (so additional decay had been allowed to occur), and he had left some hanging over, resulting in me being unable to floss, jeopardizing the tooth in question and the one behind it. Avoid at ALL costs!

Patience from a dentist is hard to find now that every dentist has multiple bookings and they jump from treatment room to treatment room. Dr Mathe has 3 stations set up but he only works with one patient at a time. Maybe they will prep the next patient in the next room but no back and forth. I have kids. One, which was terrified of the dentist, now goes without issues to Dr. Mathe. Previously he was afraid to open his mouth to other dentists. Dr. Mathe explains and talks to kids at their level and makes it a positive experience and is therefore able to actually do a proper cleaning and treatment. Give Dr. Mathe a try and you wont want to move so far away that you can't drive back for appointments. We have all new doctors at our new home but we kept our Dentist the same. And he is very personable, telling stories, giving useful advise, and remembering our previous conversations. The banter between he and his wife (who works the desk and acts as his assistant) is part of the charm of this place, even if the building and waiting area look like a throwback to the 80s. This place really is great. They take my insurance, they work some Saturdays, they have a pretty open and flexible schedule.. One time, Dr Bernhard said he thought he saw a cavity, and that on my next checkup, he expected to do a filling. When I came back, he took another X-ray to be sure, and then decided that it was better to hold off and just keep an eye on it. That is doing dentistry for the patient first. He could have needlessly drilled my mouth and charged insurance, instead, he kept my best interest in mind and was more cautious.

Ever since leaving my pediatric dentist who I absolutely loved, I had been to quite a few dentists…read morewho have been far from ideal. When I finally found Dr. Dumanian, after one visit I knew I would be returning. She was not the first dentist to tell me I was grinding my teeth at night, but the first dentist who actually told me I needed a night guard. Because of her advice she literally saved my teeth! I have been lucky enough to not have many dental issues besides the grinding, but some people I have recommended to her have not been that lucky. A family member of mine saw doctor Dumanian for the first time after seeing a terrible dentist for decades, and she had to fix almost every single tooth in his mouth. He is now towards the end of his dental journey and could not be happier. She fixed what needed to be fixed, recommended him to some excellent specialists, and did some cosmetic work as well. He has perfect teeth now. In his words, she is a "perfectionist," which is exactly what you want in a dentist. The hygienist is also incredible. I personally never liked cleanings before she started cleaning my teeth because I'm used to pain, but she numbs you perfectly (no needles--don't worry just a gel) before she gets your mouth 100% clean. She also has an incredibly kind and gentle bedside manner, which is great for everyone but especially those people who tend to get nervous at the dentist. I always feel at ease in that office. Dr. Dumanian and her staff are the most brilliant, professional and kind people I have ever had the honor of letting care for my mouth. I honestly feel as if Dr. Dumanian, the hygienist and even the receptionist genuinely care about me.

He sold his Manhattan practice to another dentist whom I and others ended up having to sue for malpractice, but that was water under the bridge, and I continued to see Dr. Ghiz when he moved back to Manhattan. Just a few years ago, I lost my job, and was unable to pay an expensive $300 bill for one dental cleaning. I recently had a real dental emergency, but Dr. Ghiz's office refused to schedule me because of my outstanding bill. I called dozens of times, but could not get an appointment. Dr. Ghiz didn't even have the courtesy of coming to the phone and speaking to me, although I had been a patient of his for 33 years! Over one lousy bill for a cleaning! This shows the level of respect that Dr. Ghiz has for his patients. There is no loyalty, only loyalty to money. Dr. Ghiz has been coldhearted and his lack of empathy is absolutely despicable. I hope he himself falls on hard times and that people he has trusted for years also shun him and turn their backs when he is hurting. He deserves nothing less.
