Brad at Transaction Transmission and Bernie are the best at fixing manual transmissions, buy they are busy, busy, busy. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Just be prepared to wait for some time for the repair but the quality and price cannot be beat. My love affair with manual transmission cars is not worth the cost of upkeep but thank G-d that Brad is there to fix older cars, so my passion survives. I needed a new reverse clutch fork on a manual Subaru which requires taking apart the entire transmission to get at the fork. You have to be real experienced to do that. Not just a new clutch kit. I went to high school in Glendale with Brad and I have taken him numerous transmissions, rear ends and more over the years. I find Brad to be upfront and honest. I can also tell you that when you give attitude you get it back. I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ in his shop right now expecting to have to install a new transmission at a cost of over $2,000. Brad inspected the car and told me that I had a bad universal joint and the rear differential needed repair. That is a fraction of the cost of what a dishonest shop could have charged. I really like this place - the owner, Brad, is really honest and reasonable. My 02 Denali is way out of warranty and over 200,000 miles. Not only has Transaction kept an eye on my transmission for me, but they also were able to find out what was causing some odd noises that the dealer diagnostic could not. They don't rely on computers to tell them whats up - they do it the old fashioned way and then do their best to find the parts at the most reasonable price. I have been able to work on my own cars since I learned how to drive and I feel confident that I know when someone is full of BS and selling me something more than I need. Like the dealerships . These guys are the absolute BEST at what they do, transmissions and customer service. Brad and Kirk made the experience of dealing with a broken car and all the expenses that arise with it much more palatable. This was a very expensive endeavor but worth every single penny. I had my 1987 Saab 900 Turbo towed in and it took almost 7 weeks to complete the work because we couldn't find the drive shaft. Then after about 3 months, the transmission started leaking. I brought it back and they replaced the reverse switch, which had a leak however that still did not resolve the issue. I brought the car back again to Brad and like the professional he is, he took exceptional care of me like he cares,...... because he does! Bottom line is that there were issues but Transaction Transmission corrected the problems. The Saab shifts smooth, tight, clean and is AWESOME, I love the way my car drives. I did not have a good experience with this shop. It took 3 months of weekly phone calls to get the vehicle in. This was for a transmission rebuilt. At this point, Brad was very nice. Once in, they didn't test drive the car to see what the problem was when I dropped it off. They were too busy to do that. Estimate jumped $100 from the phone call to the drop off. Fine. It sat there for weeks before they touched it. Once they got into it, the up-sells started to pile on. $1000 in up-sells. Fine. The car didn't get done till weeks after the promised date and numerous frustrating phone calls. Once I got the call that it was finally done, I went, paid (in cash as requested) and took the car. On the drive home I noticed new rattling and grinding sounds that weren't there. Took it back. They had it a few more weeks. Lots of frustrating phone calls again as they claimed that sound isn't something they did. Maybe if they had taken the time to test drive it at drop off, they would have had a reference point. At this point, Brad was not so nice anymore. Hostile is more like it. Unprofessional at times including hanging up on the phone in the middle of a conversation. I tried working with them but it got to a point where I realized they weren't going to make it right. They took the money and didn't make it right. Great service, from Honda civic to full blown race car. I have been beating up the TH400 behind my 650 HP 496" BBC. I have broke dam near everything else except for the tranny. They built the tranny and re-geared my 05'Dodge Diesel, could not be happier. RPM's are perfect thanks to his advice on gear ratio and tranny shifts perfectly. Owner wont let me spend money on things I don't need, great communications, fast turnaround. I always try to recommend them. Family owned business, Brad stands behind his work 100%. Transmission lasted 4 months after paying 700.00+. Basically States I don't know how to drive. Will not warranty transmission. Says I have abused it. Yes Brad is very nice. Brad has had my husbands 61 Starliner for a little more than 4mnths. My husband in good faith paid him what he said it would be to order a bramd new transmission and imstall it. The car was parked for mnths before it was even touched. 4 months later, we are now over 1000.00 over estimate we still dont have the car. Its not even close to being done. Yes Brad's very nice but, hes full of shit! Ill tell you my husband has been incredibly patient, I am amazed. Complete CON... Was sent by a Transmission Specialist in town that works on my engines, toys and such... This guy said he would pull the transmission send it to OC Core Exchange and install is all for $1200-$1450 TOPS depending on the Transmission I chose. He said he could not get to it for at least 8 weeks and it would be close to two months until it is finished. This person I SHOULD HAVE HELD OFF AND WAITED FOR sent me to Sun Valley, saying that this GUY and TRANSACTION TRANSMISSION has a collection and can would re-build mine or find one working and install it for me used. I have gotten great deals on many things in Sun Valley for my Motorized Autos, Boats, Bikes, Toys... so I called, He to was backed up, but said I can bring my car in a week to 10 days and it would still take a few weeks to do. I said NO PROBLEM. When I got there giving me a bunch of BS things that I know from my other experiences, manics and just plain reading are false and or stretched. This Owner of ANCIENT TIMES unaware of the REAL world and HOW a few NEGATIVE POSTS will cripple him in the coming months and asked me to do a favor on his computers after finding out I make $125 an hour working on computers and doing anything. I linked up his Server with two computers linked to it so they can SHARE PIX. I would charge a friend $95 for the job, I would charge a company$150-$200 and his old ass computers would have been $200. The guy mandated I pay him a deposit (SOMETHING NOT LEGAL IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY) I gave him $300 up front, feeling I would be getting a better deal and quicker response time. Well he finally go to the car after 3 weeks, called at the end and said he had to have ANOTHER DEPOSIT! I drove 1 hour to get it to him when it is against the LAW for him to even ask at all. So, I left, They called the following week, some DUMB interrupting NO NOTHING and did not LISTEN to WHAT I SAID HE CAN DO FOR THE ISSUE HE WAS HAVING. He went ahead and did his own thing. In addition after that call THEY DISAPPEARED FOR 3 WEEKS+ a bit then finally calling and telling me the transmission is DONE and it is $300 more than his already inflated cost Close to 2 Grand, I totaled it to be about $1700 and said that is all I have I worked on your COMPUTERS asked for nothing and should have billed him the $200, I also told him he never even called or informed me of the 400-600 EXTRA above and beyond the deal I though I would get. I should have saved money and it would have been the same time if I did the OC Core Exchange rout with the initial refer. So Now I GET HOME, ALL MY LIGHTING ALL THE WINDSHIELD Circuit Board AND WASHER AND TURN SIGNALS WERE PULLED, ALL THE WIRING WAS ATTACHED WITH PLUGS TO THE LIGHTING, WHEN HE TOOK THE CUSTOM HOOD OFF THEY RIPPED ALL THE LIGHTING AND 1/3 of the electronics, It is costing me $300-400 additional to fix. They gave me the car back with low air in one of the tiers, IT POPPED B 4 I GOT TO THE FREEWAY and cost me another $40 cash out of pocket lucky a place with ONE used one was close. And in the car when I got home, they Broke, MY PANELING (torn) One of my Lights BROKEN, A box of all the Vintage ORIGINAL DASH items was GONE, they go for over $250 on eBay. as well as several broken items in the vehicle I went through and cleaned before I brought it in. SAVE YOUR $ SAVE YOUR TIME AND I do not know but reading all these reviews I am PRAYING i am okay but would be the first to TAKE THE POPCORN STAND TO COURT AND SUE THE FUCK OUT OF HIM IF IT BREAKS BEFORE WARRANTY IS UP! They saved me $700+ over the first shop I went to. I brought my 87 Toyota Van in because it was getting harder to shift into 1st and 2nd (manual transmission) and it would sometimes grind going into reverse. The first shop I went to wanted to replace the 1st/2nd gear synchro (sounded reasonable based on my research) and also the clutch to fix the grinding into reverse (despite the clutch only being 45k miles old). Brought the Van to Transaction and all I needed was the clutch push rod adjusted! Apparently, there are less and less shops working on manual transmissions, and some that did wouldn't work on my van, so it was nice to find a place that would and that found the simple solution! read more

Transaction Transmission STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP.Report this by SJRF - 03/26/2011 STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AS POSSIBLE My SUV had 170k miles on it. I live in Nevada. We were in California helping the folks move. When we got to CA is when the tranny went out. A relative recommended Transaction. We took my SUV there. They put in a rebuilt tranny for $1900. It never shifted properly from 1st to 2nd, the RPMs got way too high before it would shift. Tranny started leaking within 1000 miles. They changed out the valve body to work with heavy towing, which we do not do and they did it without our permission. 5000 miles later and 2nd and 4th gears are just gone. I limped it back to them to since it was still way under warranty and they 'fixed it'. Well in the process of 'fixing it', they broke something in my cooling system and had the nerve to call me and say it would be $400 to fix what they broke. They said they were 'doing me a favor' by attempting to fix a very small leak from this valve in the cooling system. My SUV was undrivable with this broken since the cooling system would not hold antifreeze. I had it towed to my friend's house, who is a mechanic, who fixed it in 10 minutes with $20 worth of parts. And the RPMs are still too high before shifting from 1st to 2nd 3000 miles later I went back to Cali to visit a friend. When I got off the freeway 2nd and 4th gears are gone AGAIN!!!! I take it back to them and they 'fix it' again. This time it went 500 miles before 2nd and 4th gear went out. I now have to pay a COMPETENT transmission shop to fix it. For $1900 I got 8500 miles. It always leaked and never shifted properly when it did shift. If I had lived in Cali I would have taken them to small claims court to get my money back. Final note: the relative that recommended them never had any work done by them, but a friend of his did. The friend ended up taking his car back several times too and in the end he had to take it elsewhere. read more

I give Trans/Action my highest rating. I was told I needed a new transmission for my Jeep Wrangler and thought I should get a second opinion. An off road retailer recommended Trans/Action. Brad test drove my Jeep and explained what he was listening for and then said it was not my transmission but rather my CV bearing on my drive shaft. They went the extra mile to get my Jeep back on time and when the driveshaft company ran late then Brad personally stayed after hours to make sure it was on time. The work was superb, no vibration, just smooth power. They could have made a lot more money selling me a transmission but they are honest and fair and funny too. I would recommend them to anyone with a driveline issue, especially if you are dealing with off-road or racing applications. Thanks Brad. read more

I would have paid another $500 to get a tranny that didn't leak after the rebuild and two subsequent visits to repair the leak. I fixed it myself. If this rebuild lasts me 3 years I'll be surprised but I'll come back on and let you know. read more

I bought my '97 jeep wrangler a few years ago, and it's been a project jeep since then. About 8 months ago, my old transmission started to go, and I nearly lost 4th gear altogether. My mechanic sent me right to Brad at transaction, and I'm really glad that he did. He had a new AX15 ready for me to install in about 3 days, and the tranny worked great since then. Here is the part that I would like to emphasize about Brad's work. Over time, my transmission had developed an unknown leak. A little over a year later, (after my warranty had contractually expired), I gave Brad a call and the first thing he told me was to forget about the warranty - he would take care of it, and a week later, he found a time to get my jeep up on the lift and figure out what was going on. It turns out that I installed some incorrect bolts on the shifter bracket (oops), and the rubber gasket was also trashed. So he installed a new gasket, pulled out the whole tranny to check it over and clean the oil off, and bolted it all back up and only charged me for the parts. I get that you can't please everybody when you are working in this kind of business, but writing a good review is the least I can do to thank him for doing such honest work. Thanks Brad!! read more

I completely give transaction transmission 5 stars no problem. This company was recommended to me by two other friends that have the same type of truck I do. they have had no problems with there transmission since then. Brad the owner was very professional and very courteous and really gave the impression that he really cared!! He could have easily and just sold me a transmission but he went through the process of elimination trying to save me money and these things can take time.. He kept in touch with me the whole time and took me through the process and to be honest I did a little research to make sure what he was telling me was true and every single thing and he was telling me wasctrue! every test could have been a possible thing as to why my truck wasn't running right and could have saved me money had it been that .. If this guy was just out to make money he would have never gone through all these processes of elimination he could have easily just told me I needed a new transmission and sold me one that day and had me out of there in 2 days .. Since then my truck has been running really well without a problem. He even called a week later to make sure that everything was okay. again I would recommend transaction transmission to anybody no problem without hesitation... Thank You Brad! read more

I took my '66 Dodge Charger w/factory 4 speed to Brad at Trans-action for repair - it was tough to shift into 2nd gear, and would not down shift easily either. I had him drive the car to be sure he understood the problem. He supposedly fixed it by replacing the 2nd gear synchro and told me my flywheel needed surfacing while the trans was out. Almost $1100 later, my trans was no better than when I brought it in. When I complained I was told he would only change the trans oil, but that's all. A few months later, I had the engine and trans completely overhauled by another shop. The shop that did the work found 2nd gear itself needed to be replaced, and the 1-2 slider, 1-2 fork, and the 3-4 hub all needed to be replaced. On top of which there was no pilot bearing in the car! They said whoever worked on it last neglected to put it in when they installed the trans. To top it all off, the new shop charged about HALF what Trans-action did, and did the job correctly!
