Before walking into your dental office this morning, I was scared and a little embarrassed at the condition my teeth were in but the whole staff was so kind and comforting. My friend had all of her teeth pulled five years ago and has not had dentures. She was referred to this dentist. My friend does not drive and we live in Richmond Virginia so I have been taking her. First appointment was in November 2024 when they did the x-ray and took impressions.Next appointment dentures didn't fit. This office has canceled several appointments and now it is the end of January and still NO Dentures. The office is very nice and so are the employees. Dental tech was good. I only had the initial screening done but she was professional and friendly. Experience was decent until a month later when I received a bill for $1000 they had charged to the Care Credit account they signed me up for that I didn't spend anything on because I paid my copayment out of pocket and never went back but they charged $1000 anyway. I called the credit card company, disputed and cancelled the card. Fast forward 3 months, I start getting delinquent account hits to my credit score so I call the credit card company to find out that Tranquility only issued a partial credit and somehow changed the address on the card so I didn't receive any notifications of the remaining balance or late fees. Luckily my bank caught it or I was going to be sent to collections. So yeah.. don't go to this place. Hands down the dirtiest business practice I've ever encountered. read more

My 87 year old mom moved to Fredericksburg as her health needs increased and she needed to be nearer family. This dental practice was very near the senior place she now lives in, so we sent there as a potential new dentist. Mom wasn't treated particularly respectfully--they spoke to me instead of her as if she wasn't in the room (she is mobility challenged and a little hard of hearing but they just needed to take a little extra time with her). After the visit after she paid nearly $300 out of pocket for xrays and after we looked at reviews for Tranquility in various places, she decided to go with another dental practice for her ongoing dental needs. We had no intentions of submitting a bad review. We just were going with a different option. We tried to get the xrays sent to the new practice. We called several times (no answer and the voice mail was to full to leave a message). So, we emailed two weeks before her appointment asking for the xrays to be sent to the new practice (and provided the information on the new practice). Mom showed up for the appointment to discover that the xrays had never been sent and when we called asking to get them sent quickly, they said they couldn't do it that day AND would charge $35 to do it. They even tried to deny they had received the message (even when confronted with proof of the email). So, my 87 year old mom on a fixed income had to pay again for something because of their lack of response. read more

This woman does NOT deserve DDS after her name. She has refused to call back to address 2 fillings she did that fell out. I had a tooth abcess during pandemic and could only see dentist on record-she gave me a number for her stand-in as she stated she was out of town-3 times the number referred to another number that led to a woman who has nothing to do with dentistry. I was left to treat abcess myself. She billed for charges already paid by ins company under contract. She is greedy, rude, unprofessional as is her office staff. NO INTEGRITY WHATEVER. read more

They tried charging me for work that was never done (fortunately I paid attention to what I was billed for). They charged much more than other local dentists (with the same insurance). Had been going to this dentist and had been taking my child as well. My husband was also getting ready to request an appointment. However, we had some issues with our insurance and I had to cancel an appointment on short notice. I was charged 200 for missing an appointment that morning. I had every intention of rescheduling the work to be done, I just needed to make sure my insurance would cover the other portion. We tried reasoning with the office and my husband even asked if they would rather have the money than our business to which they responded they'd rather have the money. I am very disappointed in the service and treatment we received. Save yourself some time and energy and go somewhere that you are valued. Wish I could give negative stars! Dental assistant is RUDE. Needed a root canal and crown last year. First temporary was SO bad I made them replace it after a week. The first permanent was totally unacceptable, so I had to wait longer while another was produced. It was better. I still questioned it, but they said it was fine. I switched back to my old dentist in January - the crown is being replaced because it's is NOT RIGHT!! read more

First visit - I went to the dentist for cleaning. I was told I needed an extensive cleaning because of gum disease at $250.+ . Never considered that I had gum disease. Since I hadn't been to the dentist in several years and am in my 60's, I approved. When the dentist came in, she never introduced herself. When I was leaving, I asked if the dentist was there today because I hadn't met her. To my surprise, apparently I had. Second visit was to do the other side of my mouth. When I checked out, I was billed another $250+. and that's with insurance. Had I known it was that much, I would have gotten a second opinion. I was not told the total price at the time of my initial visit. Three months later I received a bill for $30.00. I went into the office to ask about this and was told that they forgot to bill for something (I've forgotten what). I disputed the charge and the lady I talked to was quite abrasive and LOUD. Oh - and when I asked to talk with the dentist, SHE WAS THE DENTIST. I was livid, but I paid the $30.00 because I didn't want any issues with my credit rating (if that's even possible). I was horrified with her behavior, her attitude, and her absolute lack of professionalism. I have contacted the insurance company to suggest that this dental practice be removed from its approved list. I will also recommend that they check Yelp to read other reviews. read more

DONT BELIEVE THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!! I almost cancelled my appointment because of these awful reviews. I'm glad I didn't. I've had a crown put in. A tooth extracted and a filling. I was told by another dentist I needed a root canal in a front tooth for $2700. Dr. Tasha fixed it with a simple filling - zero issues and billed my insurance. I've had multiple extractions from other dentists and this is the first I can honestly say I felt NOTHING. It was so quick. To be objective/negative I will say that prior to being a regular - I was worried about how casual you the staff behaved. The dentist pissed me off with a comment ONCE (I don't even remember what it was and I think I misread her intention) but she is usually a total sweetheart. Very friendly, very proficient and very honest. I never feel like she's trying to sell me things I don't need. I'm glad I didn't listen to the reviews and came here. If a 0 Star was an option, this is what they would have earned! This is the worst place I have ever dealt with. We just relocated here and were looking for a new dentist. I called our insurance company to verify benefits and to make appointments for exams & cleanings. I am only sorry now that I did not research and read the previous reviews on this facility! My fiancé had his appointment yesterday & mine was for tomorrow which I have now canceled. He had an appointment for a exam/cleaning/X-ray, however came out without a cleaning, an extra X-ray which they tell me this morning is mandatory, and a list of overpriced dental work they recommend. He left with a receipt for his co-pay plus the extra X-Ray with no details on what he was charged for, just the credit card receipt. And I am certain they will be billing the insurance company & now he has used up his semi-annual preventative visit and NO cleaning. NOT once did they communicate during his entire appointment he wasn't getting his teeth cleaned. I will be filing a complaint with Consumer Protection, and with the VA Board of Dentistry in Richmond. The front desk employee was not there, very disorganized. The first receipt they gave him didn't have his name, it was someone else's. The receptionist is also the assistant. I was given a rundown at my initial appointment that was written in basically foreign language as far as scheduling and correlated pricing for the work I needed done. I went in for a root canal and was told that "oh no, we don't do that here," in regards to me having anxiety about the procedure and requesting to be put under. I came back today for the follow up to put the crown on, which I wasn't even clear on that I would have to do. I wasn't given any paperwork to take home with me other than the medically coded list of scheduling/pricing and had quite a bit of work to do on my mouth. So, I was charged over over $450 for my initial root canal treatment then was surprised to have a bill of over $600 today for what I thought I had already paid for. I'm in quite a bit of pain and don't have much confidence in the skill or experience of the "doctor." I was never told that I need a temporary crown to begin with, let alone another appointment to have the permanent crown put in place. I wanted to eventually get my teeth whitened but was told AFTER my tooth was ground down to a nub with poor quality temporary crown attached to it that "may or may not come off," that I would've had to do that before I put the crown on my numbed tooth. The "doctor" and receptionist/assistant were working on my mouth and talking as if I weren't there about how their cousin in Atlanta got in an accident and was basically trying to get money out of it through insurance and talking bad about a coworker that didn't even bother to show up for work today. As the lame excuse for a "doctor" finally finished drilling, she kept saying "come onnnn, come onnnn," as if she was unsure of what she was doing. Then she went on to say, "hm, not too bad." As she reinserted my tooth after taking different drill bits to it over 10 times. She didn't even bother to clean the gunk out of my mouth or face from taking several molds/impressions Then when I asked for some pain medication since they literally just drilled out my tooth root and drilled through my gums, the receptionist/assistant said "oh no honey, the DEA won't let us do that." Which I know is a lie. My boyfriend just had his wisdom teeth pulled a few days ago at an actual LEGITIMATE dentistry practice. He didn't even ask for pain medication for such an invasive procedure but they sent him home with a prescription for comfort. Even with my root canal process not being complete, I absolutely won't be going back to this lame excuse for a dentistry practice. DO NOT GO HERE! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I had a crown placed on and when Dr. W asked me to bite down on the bit I did and cracked the tooth. I told the Dr. that I think something broke she assured me everything was fine. When she was done she asked me to sign a waiver saying the appearance of the tooth was acceptable. Well it wasn't so I didn't sign it. It appeared I had a bugs bunny tooth in place of a K-9. She became very frustrated with me when I I told her I was extremely unhappy with the appearance of the crown. Even told me when I smiled no one would see it. Also stated I don't smile that big, she obviously doesn't know anything about smiling or laughing because you can see 8 teeth when I smile and it looked horrendous. So after almost beefing her to refix it she finally agreed. I went home with the ugly tooth. The next night I brushed my teeth and where I had previously bitten down the the tooth had broken off so I was in severe pain over the tooth. She told me the tooth replacement would be available in 2 weeks a month later. At this point I was already done with her facility. I call a month later just to follow up so I wouldn't be charged (because I went to neibauer) whom I love because they never called and I wanted to cancel the appointment at this point they tried to tell me I was responsible for the tooth I no longer needed. Her office manager is outrageous too she advised me she had just started but then proceeds to tell me what happened at my last visit. How would you have any ideas if you just started?? After my last appointment. Rude unprofessional and money hungry. She proceeded to sue me for the charges but I beat it after almost a year dealing with the insurance to fight it. I would be careful and don't sign anything unless you are 100% happy with everything. You are taking a chance with them. Check the other reviews. Deserves 0 stars. I went to this dentist yesterday for what was supposed to be a cleaning and it turned into a whole other thing. First of all I told them in advance I am 22 weeks pregnant. I even went to my dr to get a note. I knew I had one pre existing tooth that would need to be addressed but otherwise my teeth seemed to be in good health. They did X-ray and skipped the cleaning apparently and then the dr came in. Not even ten minutes later did she determine I apparently needed 4 crowns and had 4 cavities too!! I am literally pregnant and upset in her dental chair when she is feeding me this BS and I went home SO upset. They told me they would call within a week to start scheduling the work I needed. It was going to be hours of work and probably thousands of dollars. After giving some thought and well having common sense I decided something just wasn't right. They said everything needed to be approved by my insurance yet I knew a cleaning was and they didn't even do that they jumped straight into doing X-rays. What?! So fast forward one day later I call a reputable family dentist and beg them to see me for a second opinion because I'm pregnant and worried and they fit me right in. He was in awe and said I did not even have one cavity to fill and he has no idea who this women thinks she is saying I need all this dental work. Especially while pregnant!! I wish I had read reviews first because I wouldn't have given them the time of day!! They seemed nice enough on the phone and when I even arrived for the appointment but something wasn't right and I'm telling you dental fraud is a very real thing! This dentist has multiple charges for insurance fraud and there is a reason she has such terrible reviews and it's very unfortunate that with Medicaid you are given the options of the worst dentist in town. After going through this and reading reviews and seeing her lawsuits I am wondering how the heck this woman still practices dentistry?! And to top it when I tried to call them today to inform them of my own findings because I'm not an idiot, the women simply responded with "ok I will pass the word along" no apology, barely even a reaction! It was as if she was a part of the scamming too and any decent person would've said I'm sorry or anything but how she reacted. It's one thing to take advantage of anyone, let alone a pregnant woman! I am glad I never let her do any work on my teeth because this lady would've scammed me and my insurance thousands of dollars for dentist work that didn't need to be performed. If I could seriously report them to the police or higher up besides a yelp review I would! I wish I saw the reviews before going here. I had a crown placed on and it was the most horrible experience ever! I kept telling the assistant I had a lot of sensitivity with the temporary crown and to please numb the area before taking it off. She assured me the feeling I was experiencing was normal. When she took off the temporary crown, I was in excruciating pain! Dr. Willoughby ran in yelling at me to calm down! Really? She numbed my gum in order to put on the permanent crown. Well guess what? It did not fit! I have to put back on the temporary crown and wait another week. I came back a week later. This time my gum was numbed and the permanent crown was replaced. I never returned! I was a new patient to the facility. I was really appalled at the attitude and lack of professionalism of the dentist Tasha willoughby, I am 25 weeks pregnant and did not want to have x-rays done, and explained I had x-rays that were recent through my prior dentist (switch due to insurance change) she told me she could into examine or diagnose me without x-rays done today, and I explained to her I know that's not true, I've been to the dentist regularly in my life. My stepmom was a hygienist so I know the schedule/routine of how often you need x-rays and also know that insurances don't always want to pay for them. So due to those reasons I know I have the right to refuse a particular service and she then asked her assistant to "dismiss me". So basically had me waste my time and gas to come to this appointment to argue with me about the services i had to receive or I couldn't be seen and then dismiss me. I have never been treated so rudely by a "professional" in my life. I would NEVER go here, and I would not recommend anyone else go either. Your rights as a patient are not respected, they just want to try to do every service possible that they can bill to your insurance to make money and don't care about you as a patient and your wants/needs. My first interaction with this dentist office was very positive. All staff were welcoming and accommodating. I was a patient for at least a couple years before things started to become a concern. My biggest concern was when I scheduled my upcoming 6 month cleaning at the time of my current appointment. The assistant provided me with the next available date and I scheduled. I attended the appointment with no problem, and was then billed the full amount for the cleaning. I called and asked what the issue was (I have insurance that will pay for it) and they said that my appointment was scheduled 1 day too soon of the 6 month cleaning that insurance would pay. I explained that the appointment was scheduled by their staff and that it was provided to me as my first option. I asked if the fee could be waived, as I felt the scheduling aspect was not an error on my part. The front desk said they would talk to the dentist, find out, and call me back and stated they understood my concerns. One month later I got a delinquent bill in the mail stating if I didn't make a payment, they would send me to a collections attorney. I thought it was poor customer service, considering I had never paid any of my previous services late and I had a great rapport with the staff there. I had communicated my concerns with this bill and they said they would call me back, but never did. I ended up paying the full balance due to their error and asked them to remove any future appointments off their schedule. read more

I have never had a bad experience with Dr. Willoughby or her staff or her billing policies and I have been a patient there since they opened. As a fellow business owner I know how difficult it can be when dealing with the public. A few people will praise great work and a few will make the effort to take out their frustrations with bad reviews and negative remarks. My entire family uses TDC and have never experienced anything but the highest level of service and professionalism. Never once. I just left a review for her (after my last visit yesterday) on another site that listed 129 5 Star reviews and saw this unflattering, non representative Star rating. Within the last two weeks I started having severe pain in the back of my mouth where my wisdom teeth were coming in. I informed the desk attendant at tranquility dental center on Cowan Blvd. about the affects this was having on my work life and I was losing a lot of sleep over this pain. After waiting a week for my appointment, they sat me back and took a few excruciating X-Rays and commented on the fact that I was unable to open my mouth all the way, due to pain. A second woman, who didn't introduce herself started probing in my mouth and told the other desk attendant that it looked like pericoronitis and saying that the pain was definitely a result of an infection. They said they could refer me to an oral surgeon and they would be able to help me from there. They then offered to clean my teeth for $71 dollars saying it may help. I declined, because I felt the infection was a much bigger concern. The proceeded to charge me $50 dollars for my visit and said they could not offer me anything to subdue the pain, let alone antibiotics for my infection. I was told "Aleve works." I then went home furious and called the oral surgeon Tranquility Dental Center referred me to and determined their business was closed until the 18th. I proceeded to call every oral surgeon on the list that my insurance company provided, to no avail. They were all booked out at least 5-10 days. I was on the brink of admitting myself to the hospital because the o-t-c meds just weren't taking away the pain anymore. I called another local dentist and let them know about the day I was having and that I just want the pain to go away. They told me to email them the X-Rays and they'd have their doctor look at them and see if there was anything they could do before they scheduled me an appointment. This meant I was to contact Tranquility Dental Center again. I had to call 4 different times and 4 different exts. to finally get a hold of someone. When they answered they were holding back laughter and immediately put me on hold. I waited for 10 minutes, until someone came back on the line and I had to tell them who I was again. I was told to "hang on a minute." I asked them if I could please come pick up the X-Rays they had taken of my mouth today because I needed to go get a second opinion. They said it would be easier for them if they just emailed them to me. I told them that was fine. After nearly 45 minutes I couldn't be patient anymore so I drove back up there and politely asked for a copy of my X-Rays. To which I was told "I told you I'd email them to you." I said I understand that but I cannot wait all day this pain is excruciating. I was told to have a seat. After 15 minutes they brought me back and handed me an envelope and said they just emailed me my X-Rays and that whomever I decided to see may not be able to read my printed X-Rays. I apologized for being a pain and again expressed how much my mouth was hurting and drove straight to another practice. At a dental practice just down the street (in central park) I was seen without an appointment and my pain was taken very seriously. I was given another X-Ray free of charge and prescribed an antibiotic and a pain medication. I walked out of there not paying a cent. I can't help but feel taken advantage of and that my pain was hardly any concern to them. Also I'm not even certain if I met with the doctor. And still have yet to have received an email of my X-Rays from Tranquility Dental Center. read more

There are not enough words to express my discontentment towards this dental office. The receptionist leaves patients on hold for 20 minutes at minimum. The doctor refuses to speak to her patients and lacks bedside manner. The only reason why I gave this office 1 star is because of the two dental assistants are very nice and take pride in their work. They took advantage of my pregnancy Medicaid. Told me I needed several root canals while I was 8 months pregnant when all I asked for was a cleaning.. This is after they drilled into my teeth with barley any numbing medicine and threw me on antibiotics! For no reason. . I had my baby then called to see what work was needed and they wanted me to come in 6 times in basically 2 weeks to get major work done on my mouth...before insurance runs up.. In their words,"while it's free". I went to get a second opinion from a dentist that is more qualified but unfortunately doesn't accept Medicaid ... Told him what happened, after giving me a free exam and taking a new set of X-rays(since this office couldn't even send my files digitally to him) came to the conclusion... I needed none of what they said..and what they already begun. I will be going to him to get the holes in my teeth fix that they drilled into my teeth and will be paying out of pocket to correct this issue that was created for me. Please read carefully. This place is ridiculous. If there was a way to give negative stars, this place deserves it. I made an appointment for myself to see the dentist. I came in for my initial exam on a Friday and things seemed fine. They said I had urgent work to do and to come back Monday. I informed them that I did not have my work schedule for the next week with me and I would call back, but they insisted on setting the appointment, advising me I could call and adjust it if needed. Keep in mind, this office does not have weekend hours, so you have no way to give cancellation notice after Friday for Monday. My 4 year old daughter fell sick with a double ear infection Sunday morning and was very fussy and given a 2 day doctors note. I tried calling Sunday to advise Tranquility that I could not make my appointment, only to find no voicemail system. Monday morning I called and told them I had a doctors note, that my young child was ill and I would have to reschedule. I was told someone would review my account and return my call. For a week I had no call, my next day off I called again and my calls would just ring and ring and ring even during business hours. (I later found out they were ignoring my calls). The following week (now 3 weeks later), I went to the office to provide a copy of my daughters doctors note and clear everything up. I was directed to read a sign on the wall about cancellation policies and told "do it look like we accept doctors notes?" I replied, "I would think any reasonable person would understand that I had a sick child, I tried to call to let you know". The receptionist then began cursing at me so i asked to speak to the owner, who was sitting there with her back turned the entire time and told me "to get the EFF out before I call the police and pay my missed appointment fee when you get the bill!!" I called the police when I got to my car, because I was so disturbed. They told me that they had over 14 calls from her within the last 12 months of saying "patients were out of control". This made me feel better, knowing that SHE IS THE PROBLEM. The whole place is a CROOK SHOW. They are out to take your money so they can keep their doors open. I have never been treated so poorly. This is one of the worst dentist I have ever been to. Rude and bedside manner is atrocious. When a patient says something you should listen because in the end it could turn out rather bad as it did for me. Listening to this dentist and getting a crown instead of a root canal prior to the crown is very bad. I would be in a better position if I had listened to my self. Now I'm faced with a lot of pain and having to get a root canal through my crown. Just not fair. What's even worst is my fear of dentist and they have now made it worst. read more

I chose this office solely out of convenience as it is the closest dental office to my house...that'll teach me!!!!!!!!!!!! My experience with them was (and still is) horrible!!!!!!! First, after paying a copay, they tried to stick me with the difference between the amount they negotiated with my insurance provider and the amount they would charge a cash-paying patient. This was after I had already paid an $80 copay. I confronted their office staff on this, and they readily admitted the mistake and stopped sending me bills. Then I had more work done. They sent me a bill, but I figured it was just a similar error, so I ignored it. Not long thereafter, they turned the bill over to collections. I contacted their office via email and informed them of the error via email and attached the explanation of benefits from my insurer...NO RESPONSE. Then, I wrote a letter to the law firm that handles their collections...NO RESPONSE. I hoped that it was straightened out, but I checked my mail today and found a debt warrant, aka a civil claim for money. I can either pay them or appear in court to fight it. This is all because of a incompetent office staff, in my opinion. I have filed a complaint against her with the state board of dentistry.
