The tram, or tramvia, is a great way to get from the periphery of Florence, including the airport, to the city center. Currently, there are two tram lines with another two in the works.
Line T1 "Leonardo" opened in February 2010, and T2 "Vespucci" opened in February 2019. They run from 5:30 am to midnight every three to four minutes during the day or every twelve minutes at night.
Since my partner, our friends, family members, and I stayed outside of the city center, the tram station was Lavagnini-Fortezza on Line T2 to San Marco Università , which is the last stop.
One can walk up to the physical machines, which are in several languages, in front of the tram stops and purchase a ticket for € 1.50 in cash or with a credit card, valid for 90 minutes. Be sure, once on the tram, to validate one's ticket at the yellow machines inside the tram.
The tram was clean and safe. It's a great way to travel--so easy and fast. Highly recommend. read more
