One of our new, instant favorites in Guanajuato- Mexican tapas with a French cuisine twist. Nice atmosphere.

Los Campos is a highly rated restaurant in Guanajuato. We decided to visit for dinner only to…read morediscover it was only us as diners. Normally, this would cause a red flag but perhaps it was early or an off night. Los Campos is located on the south-eastern side of Centro Historico district and is an easy walk from Jardin de la Union. What drew us to Los Campos was the referenced diversity of their menu. My companion eats chicken and fish, while I am a vegan and plant-based. Their menu has multiple vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. While the flavors were pretty good, it was the plate presentation that was exceptional and we both felt that Los Campos was a little too pretentious for us. I was limited to order the Chaminones con Mezcal. Mushrooms flambeed in Mezcal with orange zest and dried chile. My wife, although not excited to try, did have the Burrito de Cerdo Ahumado en Salsa Colorado. It wasn't that Los Campos was too fancy, it was more like we, as diners, were more comfortable in other settings. We would suspect that diners from the United States or from Europe would fall in love with the avant-garde interiors and plate presentations. From all accounts, that all seems to be true, it's just our style. Our food was good and was plated expertly and I don't have any issues recommending Los Campos for a romantic dinner out for a couple.

We really enjoyed Los Campos. Good food, good service, good drinks. Would definitely eat here…read moreagain. The cheese plate was bomb-ass. My only regret was not ordering the steak fillet. Next time.

The sushi we tried was okay given the limited availability of ingredients. The rice was not the best in texture or seasoning. There's no wasabi, just soy and hot sauce and the selection of fish items is limited, leaning more towards fried shrimp and fried chicken sushi (never saw this before, but didn't try it). We tried the Japanese Plum fried rice, but found it sweet and rather odd. The tea was the best part of our meal. The hot green and jasmine teas were loose leaf teas, not bags, served steeping in teapots. Service was cheerful and friendly, but the servers are easily confused. First, we were brought the next table's ice water. Then, we got shrimp instead of salmon maki. The other diners seem to enjoy the food more than we did.

Definitely worth seeking out and definitely a recommend :-)

The food and the drinks are simple, but good. The service and atmosphere remind me of sitting in my best friend's kitchen having a few drinks and some basic home snacks. Personally, while in Guanajuato, I've made this place my home away from home, and the Miguel, who is running the place has made me feel like that's exactly where I am. And, what a view!!! See my photos! Give this place a try; I don't think you will regret it.

I happened upon it while I was heating myself up the mountain to see the Pipila Monument. I was kicking myself for opting to bypass the ride up the Funicular, but now that I'm here at Bésame Cafe, I know I made the right decision! It's off the beaten path definitely, but as they say, I prefer the road less travelled. This one is definitely worth the journey. It's amazing view alone makes this spot magnificent. But then paired with a lovely owner, delicious food and drinks, this spot was truly a highlight to the city. I had a nice refreshing tequila, some delightfully brewed coffee, and simple quesadillas paired with a dish of homemade puerco that is tal off the bone, perfectly spiced, heavenly goodness. This spot is barebones, certainly, without even a menu. But honestly, you might as well not come to Guanajuato if you don't come to this cafe!
