Walk right into the lobby and the front desk will radio up to announce your arrival (or figure out if there's space up there for you). Then walk up a couple flights of stairs to the open air rooftop terrace. They have menus in both English and Spanish, both paper and QR. They will set you up with the wifi password if you ask. A breakfast set comes with fruit, a baby pancake, coffee and juice, and your choice of entree. My partner had pork chilaquiles in red sauce - it was really tasty; if you like meat, that's an option to try. I had the tortilla espanola with goat cheese and caramelized onion; this is a Spanish-style potato and egg omelette/casserole. It was downright dang amazing! It was a hefty portion and I had them pack my leftover for me to take to the airport afterwards because no way was I wasting a crumb of that!!! The with a side salad that came with it was an after thought. Our waiter and his colleague were good and attentive. Really enjoyable breakfast. We had an absolutely amazing meal here on our last night in Guanajuato…read more We spotted it after visiting the Diego Rivera Museum and then remembered it a couple days later when looking for a nice spot to have dinner on Dia de los Muertos. However it took us a very long time to get from our apartment to the restaurant because there were so many interesting events happening around the city, that we stopped to watch several of them. We didn't arrive to the restaurant until 8:30PM (Sunday night). The host informed us they closed at 8PM but he would ask the kitchen if they would still serve us. Not wanting to put them out, we declined his generous offer, thanked him, and crossed the street in search of another restaurant. A minute later, the host ran out of the restaurant and across the street to us and said they had a table for us and the kitchen would be happy to serve us. We thanked him profusely and followed him inside the restaurant. The decor is lovely and modern and of course proudly showcasing several photos and paintings of Frida and Diego. We immediately noticed the clientele was just a little bit different than what we'd seen at other restaurants in the city. Meaning, everyone else was speaking English (not the staff, but the other patrons). We quickly observed that the other customers were most likely ex-pats, being that the menu was a bit pricier than other restaurants in the area (but still not expensive by any means). Our host informed us that they'd actually been busier that evening than during Cervantino, which meant they were out of a lot of food. A woman, who I believe was the owner/chef, came over and listed off what they still had available, which was only about 20% of the menu. Wow! This place is popular so make sure you get here early! My husband asked if they had any paella left and she said she only had a small amount left and that we could have it free of charge since it wasn't enough for a serving. It made an absolutely wonderful appetizer though. I've never had paella before, but if it all tastes as good as what she brought out, I'm a huge fan of it now! Absolutely amazing. We're still talking about that paella. Another item we can't stop talking about is the tapenade they serve. It was the best thing I've ever put on bread. Period. Every time I took a bite, I had to make a "MMMMM!" sound. We couldn't figure out how they get just the right amount of spice in there, but it's perfect. Just enough for give you little bit of spice without burning your mouth. The spice heats up your mouth for an instant, and then immediately dissipates so you can enjoy the rest of your food. Amazing. We both settled on the beef filets, one made with a red salsa and the other with a black. These pieces of steak were H U G E and delicious. I'm not a big meat eater, so I could only handle about half of one before tapping out, but the meat was so tender and flavorful, it was unreal. This restaurant is just a delight. The service was friendly and beyond amazing, and the food was out of this world. We will definitely make this part of our rotation for our upcoming trips to GTO. Next time we'll arrive on time, though.

But I have to disagree with the reviews who are saying the food is just okay. I've been in Guanajuato three months and I've tried most of the restaurants in town, Escarola has delicious food! I enjoyed a super fresh mango agua del día (the best I've had so far on my year long trip) and a very tasty spinach and mushroom quesadilla on a homemade tortilla and a spicy green salsa on the side. I will definitely be back many times in the months to come. Yum!
