It turned out it was from Oliver Bonas, which I was vaguely aware existed, in a kind of Dulwich/Blackheath kind of way. Turns out there's a branch just off of Fleet St. So the next day I hot footed it over there in search of the dress. They didn't have it. They did have a lovely collection of dresses and clothes, as well as fun gift book type things, costume jewellery, accessories, and girly home ware that I found immensely appealing. But I wanted that dress! The shop assistants were wonderful and ordered it in for me, it arrived the next Monday and I am now the proud owner of a lovely black dress and very very happy. Plus it was only £30, win! At the same time I picked up a Mothers Day gift, sorted. Totally recommend the place.

Head to toe covered in diamante is not a look that most of us could pull off but somehow she manages. My idol. Chica in Spitalfields is Beyonce's kind of shop. Everything here is very girly and very over the top. There is a real feel of glamour and night-on-the-town fashion to the place, boosted by the amount of colour and glitter inside. Unfortunately for me, I can't afford anything in here! While I would agree that some items deserve their price tag, a lot of the stock just feels plain overpriced and it puts me off coming back to this shop. Although everything is gorgeous and the staff are lovely, it's too torturous to be in here knowing that you can't take any of it home. Probably for the best anyway, I wouldn't want Beyonce feeling embarrassed if we were to both show up to a party wearing the same thing. Guess I'll just have to leave the diamante to the woman who wears it best...

It had the leather elbow patches I'd envisaged and when I rolled up the cuffs to reveal the tiny star patterned lining I was smitten. The only jacket on the rack was a smidgen too big, but a helpful shopgirl let me know that they had it in other sizes. One size down and voilà! Perfect! This well-edited collection of clothes and accessories is worth a nosey by men and women alike, especially during sales.

An affable-enough fellow let us into the locked cabinet of wallets (most of which were reasonably priced roughly between £20-40ish) to examine the goods. Not only did he pull out a variety of each design, he talked us through his opinion of how nice and/or useful each one was. Whilst not pushy outright, this was definitely more heavy-handed than your typical English sales demeanour. The boy ended up helping me select an affordable new wallet marked down from £29 to £19. At least, at that kind of cost, I won't be terribly disappointed if it disintegrates after a year or two worth of use. And it sure beats risking the papercuts I've been getting from using an Oyster Card holder as my temporary wallet!

One was a smooth nude colour that I now use all the time on nights out because it matches everything, and the other was coated in gold sequins that goes perfectly with lots of my Indian outfits :) Try to avoid the lunchtime rush - there's limited space to move around inside given the layout. I'm sure I'll visit again - but I have to say for a pretty present I'd probably try the quirkier Oliver Bonas around the corner first.
