As I've mentioned in my review of Start, my brother's Christmas tie caused me quite a lot of shopping stress. I think it would be fair of me to say that the bulk of it stemmed from Oscar Milo. I'd walked past this shop hundreds of times and thought that it would be perfect stop for a young but smart looking tie. I was right, the stock in this shop is beautiful. Everything seems to be really well made and designed for the business man looking for a casual edge to his clothing. My brother would have loved a lot of the stuff in here. However, the service I received in this shop was so shocking he's never going to get the chance to see how nice Oscar Milo's tie would have looked on him and Oscar Milo is not going to get the money I would have spent on it.
I found the ties nicely displayed up high on a wall facing the till. They were all hanging at full length so that you could see them properly but unfortunately they were too high to be able to really look at properly. I asked the man at the till if he could bring a few down for me but his voice just floated off and all I understood was that he was very busy and surely I could reach them myself. After embarrassingly trying to reach these with a series of jumps and grabs I noticed that there were more ties in a cabinet by the wall. I asked a different member of staff if he would be able to open this for me but apparently he was also too busy. He told me he wasn't sure where the key was and asked if I was really serious about buying one of them. The implication here was that if I didn't guarantee a £60 return on his key fetching efforts then the whole process just wasn't worth his time. At this, I walked out of Oscar Milo's in a hissy rage.
I can appreciate that it was Saturday morning two weeks before Christmas and that the shop was very busy. However, the service in Oscar Milo was clearly driven towards those intent on spending above the £100 threshold. Customers like me weren't worth their time. Oscar Milo achieves two stars on the basis of its high quality stock, it's service on the other hand, stinks! read more
