The man who works there is realistic about what he can do with shoes and boots that have been walked into the ground, but if he takes a job on, will always do it to the highest standard. I've handed over embarassing excuses for footwear to him and he has never failed to bring them round for me. They do ask for a small deposit of 'whatever you like' to get shoes re heeled, due apparently to people leaving shoes and not returning for them once the work has been done. New heels cost £3.50, and new soles are about a fiver. And as shoe menders and key cutting seem to go together in shops like peas and carrots, this shop stocks a dazzling array of fun coloured keys, if that's what floats your boat.

It really is surprising how much longer you can make a decent pair of leather shoes last if you re-heel them often enough. The city heel bar is fast and convenient if you work in town and need some shoe repair done as soon as possible. They can, if you ask politely enough, fix or re-heel your shoes while you wait. As well as this they are cheap, and compared to buying a new pair of shoes, it is a steal. They have a key cutting service too.

Of course, the Kennedy Centre now has a Poundland store (whose seemingly inexorable rise and expansion is becoming something of a phenomenon) and a few other big names which, it is hoped, will bring footfall back to its former levels (I don't see that happening). Anyway, I haven't had any shoes repaired - I'm not sure how many people still get shoes repaired, although I know that women getting boots re-heeled is still a steady business - but I was in here to get a key cut. It was costing about £2.80 to get the key cut and, as the guy was cutting the key, I realised we'd be needing a few more keys in the coming months, so I asked him if he'd do four for a tenner, which he did. OK so it wasn't a huge saving, but I like places like that that will give you a bit of discount if you brassneck it. The keys were done in a matter of minutes and I was on my way. They weren't wrong about the 'speedy' bit.

But there has been more than one occasion where I manage to completely lose my house keys and need to get a new set cut. The people who work here are always pleasant and very helpful. More importantly, their always cheap. Getting keys cut in Belfast has became an expensive business but here its still very reasonable, a few quid per key. So to save my thrifty bake some pennies, I go here instead of staying local where if I get my key's cut, I'll be able to get into my house, but not stock its fridge or pay the bills. Now that is a magical over exaggeration, but you know what I mean.

I kind of feel weird in supporting a chain store and stuff but they do provide an excellent service at a really reasonable price. I have got plenty of keys cut in here and have got a pair of brogues that I love repaird 3 times, and while that service isn't the cheapest, they've always done an ace job. If you need any of that weird stuff done, this is probably the best place to go.

I have used Timpson many times when I lived in London for watch and shoe repair and was never…read moredissatisfied with the service I received. Therefore I was lead to believe the experience would be not different at this shop. I have an expensive watch in which one of the little aesthetics on the clock face had come loose and I was leaving it so the aesthetic piece could be stuck back to the clock face. Not a tough job and a watch repairman has told me since it should have taken 2mins at a cost of £5. However the Belfast Timpson branch does not employ watch repairmen... I am completely disgusted with how my watch was treated. I left it in a week before I went on holiday and was told it would be ready when I got back by the employee (late 20s, dark hair). When I went to pick it up on return from my holiday I found it had been sitting in a drawer ever since. The employee on this day then began to complain about the other employee at some length, saying he's useless and makes false promises and that is why he wasn't fixed in time. This employee (50s grey hair) then began to take a look at my watch, and then systematically began to destroy it right in front of me. Due to his butter-fingered approach he broke the pusher, and snapped the minute hand in half. He then claimed its cheap quality and isn't worth getting fixed. He claimed it is a Pilipino fake, which is a blatant lie as I bought the watch several years ago from a Swiss watch shop in Geneva. I know it's worth and repair costs would have been a fraction of its actual value. At this point I took my watch back and left. I wish I was entitled compensation for their shoddy handiwork but Timpson dont see it that way! Shame on Timpson as a company in my opinion. Now I'm facing the problem of having to find a VERY skilled watch maker who can fashion me a suitable pusher and watch hands, and hopefully fix the mechanism which his bullish 'repair' broke as well. My conclusion: these people know nothing and I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. If I could give them 0 out of 5 stars but unfortunately yelp only allows a minimum of 1 out of 5.
