Since Chastain has become our park in the last year, we agreed that we would buy our tree here this year. I stopped in around 7:30 on Thursday, December 1, with the intent of getting a 3-4 foot tree (to put on a pedestal/table so the little one couldn't get to it and pull it over...). There were 4 people working at the time: the owner, Hal, a couple of high school kids, and another man who seemed to be in charge of the actual activity. There weren't many small trees to choose from, and the smallest were all in the 5-6 ft range. Clearly, they're expecting the folks who live in the huge houses and want huge trees. All the trees I saw were in great shape - very full. I ended up picking out a 5' for $35, which I think is cheaper than the other commercial lots I've previously used. They also have a selection of wreaths (fir, pine, boxwood), stands, and tree watering aids (basically a long funnel so that you don't have to bend over and crawl under the tree to water it). I checked all these out as the high school guys were bailing my tree, giving it a fresh cut, and putting the stand on for me. As Hal was ringing me up (they take Visa, not sure about the others), he explained that this is their 2nd year as a fundraiser for the conservancy. For each tree purchased, they plant a tree, and then they'll take your tree back on January 3rd to recycle it. So not only did I get a beautiful tree for a reasonable price, I also got to help my neighborhood park, and I have a guaranteed way to recycle it when the holidays are over. #Yelp365 - 336/365

However, I had a horrifying experience at Redefine Home this past weekend and wanted to warn other parents. Full story below, but the headline is the new owner told me "Maybe you should lock up your kid" when my child did absolutely nothing wrong. Let me preface by saying, I've been a big fan and customer of Redefined Home Boutique over the years, when it was owned by David, who was lovely and kind. This weekend, as soon as we walked in, a large black dog ran towards my 3 year old and terrified her so she screamed loudly and ran away, and he then started barking and running after her. He was not trying to bite her but it terrified her nonetheless. The woman working there (who I've since learned is the new owner, Kim) made no attempt to calm or stop the dog, and my daughter was distraught. Even more upsetting, there was no apology at all from Kim. My daughter was terrified and said "that dog isn't very nice" and we immediately headed towards the exit and said, "yes, maybe he should be on a leash." The owner yelled as we were exiting "maybe you should lock your kid up." My child had done absolutely nothing wrong. If "maybe you should lock up your kid" is something that comes out of the mouth of an employee, let alone an owner, when the child did nothing wrong at all, I think it warrants a negative review to warn other parents. Truly appalling behavior, and definitely not a way to treat customers in a family-oriented neighborhood. I'll take my money elsewhere.
