    Whale of a good time!
    Cody B.

We save several whales on our tour. Enjoyed our trip out on the ocean. Doesn't go out very far from land.

mom and 3 kids (14-21) had an excellent time on the bottom fishing /crabbing trip. we caught tons of keepers and made great memories.

Came here two years ago with a group of friends and that time they charge about $16 per person to see the whales. They pretty much guarantee that you will see it. Last year came with another group of friends and they have increased the price to $20. That is a big jump. So instead we just stood at the Depoe bay and we saw the whales as well but not a close up. 2 years ago when I came with my friends, we believe $16 is a pretty good deal. I mean in Canada, they charge like $40 for it. Even for today for $20 its not bad. The only issue I have is that I have seasick. So I was on about 20 mins in I started to throw up. I mean its worth it in someways. Luckily I went before dinner. We manage to see 3 whales. Even though they don't guarantee 100% you will see it but they said 99.99% you will see the whales and the whales is out there. Its beautiful. I took some good photo and videos. I mean ALOT of videos and photos. Also note the Tradewinds Charters is a very small boat. I personally had a great time other than 20 mins in. I recovered about 10mins after I was off the boat. Also note because I went around September 1, it was freezing cold out there. I was stupid enough to wear flip flops. My toes and fingers were frozen. Please dress warmly. The Oregon Coast is pretty cold in September. The weather changes dramatically! This is one of those things that you will only do once. I mean this is what I believe!

Took the Kadaho on a bottom fishing trip. Great captain, great deck hand. Got us onto fish, and when the fish left the spot, he got us on another school. We fished for several hours. Enjoyed the trip so much we went for another. Same story. Captain Roman got us on the fish and worked to keep us fishing until it was time to head back to shore. They were friendly and very good at their jobs. KADAHO every time. Planning for salmon, maybe halibut and tuna trips with these guys.

My wife and 2 kids (5 & 7) went on a 1 hour whale watching tour on the Mr. Max boat. The crew was helpful and informed us ahead of time when a whale was going to surface because, as the captain stated, he can see very well from atop the boat. The crew did a good job poitning out and getting closer to whales. I got some great pictures as well. The captain used the speaker system to inform all guests what side and location a whale was going to be at or is at. Good time for the family, would definitly do again when in town during whale season!

Took us out in 10 ft. waves. 15 people on board, 5 threw up. Crew seemed to think it was funny. The only thing I saw was waves and vomit.

Ask the Community - Tradewinds Charters - Whale Watching & Fishing - Oregon

My senior citizen parents both have knee issues. Is there an easier way down to the docks without having to walk down all those stairs?

you can ask to board across the bay on the docks and they will accommodate you

This review is on the rental boats and staff. Did not go on a charter…read more The boats are definitely the best value in the area. $70 for four hours including 3 crab rings is a great deal. They will tell you where to go. The boats are your standard 14'.5' aluminum boat with a 9 HP outboard on it. The motor ran great, it was also new for the season. You need to leave your card as a deposit. I'm not crazy about doing that, but not a big deal. They guy working there was very nice and helpful. The store is pretty small, but has plenty of snacks and drinks as well as fishing supplies and bait, live and refrigerated. I'm not leaving a five star for one reason, they require you to clean the boat when you get back. I was beat from pulling pots and really not in the mood to wash down a boat. They have a hose, so you basically wash everything down to the back and then use a pail to remove the water. The positive is they had the hose right there on the dock next to the boat. I brought my own pots so it was nice to wash them down there instead of later. Big plus for me.

My boyfriend and I finally decided to take that crabbing boat tour we'd been telling ourselves for…read moreyears we were going to do. It turned out to be a beautiful day at the beach to top it all off. You pay in the store and they do charge an extra percent if you're paying with a card (don't remember how much) which is a tad annoying but you get over it. Then it's time to head to the boat and meet the extremely friendly and funny crew to head out to sea. The way the crabbing works is that they set pots in the morning and then whichever boat you're on, you pick up a string of pots along the way. Pot after pot the crab were overflowing and everyone has to help! Watch out for the claws, those crabs aren't playing around. We had great luck and caught a TON of crabs. I highly recommend having the crabs cooked & cleaned onsite. We paid under $20 for 34+ crabs. We had crab for weeks! Cost is reasonable, $55 per adult and seemed pretty kid friendly above the age of 5 or so. Will definitely do again!
