This grocery store is located on Masonic Avenue and it's Trader Joe's . Less than two weeks before the Summer sun starts I landed at Trader Joe's on Masonic. This location was the second ever Trader Joe's opened in San Francisco. You can feel the classic Trader Joe's from the decor. Inside you will find salads , cheese , chips, fruits and vegetables. This Trader Joe's market is busy! The parking lot and overflow lot is usually full which is why a security guard directs drivers to open spaces. The grocery shelves are tidy, restocked and, generally, well-kept - a calm ambiance. As with most TJs, there's a good variety of food - fresh produce, packaged items and frozen items. Surprised to stumble upon new TJ tote bag designs (some totes are 100% cotton) and huge purple insulated tote bags. Great for picnics. My visits to this TJs are always very pleasant. Parking requires patience, but it's centrally located in San Francisco making it for me one of their most convenient locations in SF. FYI you can also use the parking lot located at the corner of Geary & Masonic. It's Trader Joe's so no fluctuating prices, Seasonal Items come and go as do limited time offerings. Friendly staff happy to help you, shelf stock that turns over quickly, a decent mix of grab and go salads etc. Store is clean, with hand written signage being the rule, and restrooms that are shopper friendly. It has a larger parking lot than most others. I remember when there weren't many TJs in SF but now there are many locations. This one is convenient to get into but hard to get out of since it's near the main intersection of Masonic and Geary. There's a parking attendant to make sure people are shopping at the store in the dedicated parking lot; convenient. It's a pretty standard trader joes in layout but bigger so the aisles are big enough so you aren't too squeezed in. read more

This Trader Joe's is frequently cleared out, but we got steaks from here the other day and they were just as good as any restaurant filet I've had. This could be because of the way we seasoned it and cooked it, but the meat was amazing. We also got everything we needed to make a gluten free French onion pasta for less than $10. Have been going to this location since it opened, many years ago, always on a bicycle. Had a very detailed discussion with a manager years ago regarding the bike racks. They seemed very interested in how to improve the flaws in the bike rack setup. The rack location has deteriorated significantly with the concrete there disintegrating into sand. The little step up to the racks area still remains, making it harder to back up & ride away with a heavy load of groceries on the bike. Management obviously doesn't care about bicyclist customers. Even though I made the effort to explain the issues, including zero lighting at the racks, at that time, they apparently don't want to invest the effort to make bicyclists' experience safer & better. read more

Everyone who works here is always so friendly and helpful. I can't tell you how many times I've asked someone for something and they'll get off their ladder or stop filling shelves to help me. The variety of food is astounding. The store is always clean and so is the parking lot. Even parking is easy with a dedicated guide helping. The prices are great and I was really impressed that they kept the price of eggs down during the shortage. My only complaint is that I have to walk up some steep inclines. read more

Trader Joe's is truly an Amazing American Institution....yeah it's now owned by a German family/company ( also owners of Aldi) but it started in little Monrovia Cali. TJ's is so well run that they keep prices down as best as possible and offer an amazing array of things in a small footprint of a store ( usually 10-20k sq ft). I mean you can find okay fruits and vegetables ( their weakest offering imho). Good baked goods. Actually quite good meats ( their frozen New Zealand beef is amazingly good....and affordable). Good canned goods. And let's not forget the wine and booze. Wines have gotten way better from the days of 2 buck chuck. Nice beer selection too. The fact that it is relatively easy to get in and out is also an added bonus. read more

Everything is well stocked, getting in & out of their parking lot takes a bit of patience. Place can get real busy past 4pm, but didn't noticed security but have not heard of any aggressive shoplifting here. Prices are competitive especially if it's their own brand & is pretty good. My wife says they have the best flowers there priced & quality. read more

I have been a local at this Trader Joe's for the last 2 years. This is one of the family-friendly, easy-to-walk-in Trader Joe's in the city. They also have a bigger selection of drinks and condiments compared to a few others. I have never had a bad shopping experience here until today, when I had a few items to return, and their store manager gave me a really hard time on why I was returning paprika, yeast that we did not like, and peanut butter that my kids did not like in taste. I was shocked by the way she interrogated me and gave me grief on why I was returning multiple times. I mean, you don't interrogate me when I buy $200 worth of groceries every week! She had a problem when I brought back 4 items that we did not want. I understand customer satisfaction is not a thing nowadays, but please don't shame your regular customers for returning things when you portray everywhere that your customers can return things anytime, no questions asked. I went to the store today and I lost my wallet and didn't realize it until I got home.. I raced back to the store today and find out someone found it in the parking lot and turned it in.. I would like to publicly thank the person and the staff for caring and helping me.. BTW, All the cards, my license and money were intact.. Human Kindness still exists.. Thank you.. This location is pretty much a standard issue TJ's. However, I'm docking 1 star because the parking situation is such a pain. I feel like no matter what time or what day, this location is always bustling. Thankfully, this location provides a traffic control helper to direct cars to parking spots. Nonetheless, this location offers shoppers the opportunity of pure delight. My favorite place in the store is the "new items" endcap located near the free sample area. During my mid-November visit I was able to stock up on some sweet stocking stuffers and hostess gifts for upcoming holiday soirees. Oh, also, bonus for the gingerbread turkey kit-- it makes a perfect Thanksgiving centerpiece. Back to my original concern-- my best advice is to walk or take an uber to this location. read more

This branch is way too small and crowded for the audience it serves. It's always a mad rush of elbowing and bumping into people or waiting to get through the aisle. I wish they had designed the space to serve better traffic flow. That said, they have pretty decent options (though it's still on the smaller size and they don't always have all the products you want). The staff is also quite helpful for finding items. I would recommend going on Tuesday through Thursday to avoid the rush. read more

There's been 2 instances in the last month where the cashier (different cashier each time) overcharged me. The first instances, I was charged for 2 bags of potatoes when I only had one. I caught it, and she took the extra charge off. The second time occurred today. I was in a rush, paid, and left without checking my charges. When I looked at my receipt after I got home, the cashier had charged me for 3 dozen eggs when I only had 2 dozen. I'm going to take this as a lesson learned, and will be more alert in the future during check out at this Trader Joe's. read more

This is and has always been my local Trader Joe's. I can't say enough about how this location has handles SIP. They constantly clean their baskets and carts and monitor the amount of people in the store. Yes, their outside line tends to be long but it moves quickly so please be patient with the staff. Everything is typically stocked well. I saw how they worked their behinds off during the initial mass hysteria and I'm super thankful for them. Prices are always lower than other spots. They have special items that you just can't get from other stores. They also have the best selection of frozen items if you're looking for something quick, easy, and somewhat healthier than your typical stouffers. Lines move quickly. This Trader Joe's branch is super busy & even has a security guard that helps direct traffic which is the first I have seen at a Trader Joe's. There is ample parking yet again is busy. The interior is spacious & you will find many items that you will find at other Trader Joe's. I picked up some staple items including: organic berries, organic apples, tofu, soy milk, & some other things including the three layer hummus that I have only scene at Trader Joe's which has a nice flavor as I am a hummus connoisseur. Check out was fairly quick as many cashiers are working to keep things moving. All in all a positive experience & would recommend coming here if in the area. read more

I usually have kind of an unpleasant experience with the workers there and was honestly dreading going because I didn't want their interaction bc I knew I'd have a mental breakdown in the produce aisle. There's this cashier with green/blue hair colored hair who was super cherry and helpful. An elderly customer asked her where is the tomato paste. It happened to be on the bottom shelf. The cashier had to go on hands and knees to get her a can. Then the customer said she wanted another one so the cashier had to get back down there to get another one. When i was waiting 3 people deep in the slow 10 item line she waved at me to go to her empty line. But a man got there faster. She lickety split finished with him and waved to me again. She commented "oh i was such a teaser" or something like that. She is super fast and rung me up with my 3 items and i was on my way. She made me super happy! I've been snacking preportion size snack of almonds, dark chocolate,pistachio, cashew, and cranberries. That's my go to snack. 10 packs in a bag $6.99. Of course their 19 cents bananas! read more

Shout out to the friendly employees. But a special shout out to Matt who went beyond the usual exceptional help I get at this TJ. I needed chipotle in Adobe sauce for this short rib recipe. They didnt have it but Matt researched where I could get it. He also suggested using a jar of garlic rather than cloves. I appreciate that, Matt. It minimizes my trips during Covid. And he got it for me!!!! Check out...do I have too many items for express? "Nope you have just the right amount". Now don't go on the weekend. The lines are long even if they go relatively quickly. We went first thing Tuesday. The checkout person noticing we were walking, tied up our eggs. It is the little courtesies and thoughtfulness that keep me coming back.
