Parking is a little tight in this small plaza but you can usually find a spot. Inside is clean and air conditioned which is very refreshing on hot summer days! They have a big selection of all things Trader Joes. I am so glad there is one in my town!

Joe, truly I do love you but the Ann Arbor store has got to do something about their parking as well as their checkout lines. I don't think there's anything more they can do about their lines, as every lane is open but I'm number 12 in line. And getting in and out of this place is crazy. There is only one way to get your car in and out. We really need a back exit. The only way out is to get on Stadium Boulevard, which is busy on a weekday but a nightmare on a weekend. The food is great and there are so many interesting choices. I bought some seasoned kettle chips that taste like Thanksgiving stuffing. I wouldn't have bought them except they were giving free samples with some cranberry and topping and it was truly very amazing. Everybody is very friendly. And there are employees to help you. I will say, though at the risk of probably getting shamed, that people bring their entire families - so large hordes of people block the aisles. 3, 4 and five children deep, but I guess they enjoy trader joes as much as adults.

Stopped off on our way to dinner to pick up our collection of nuts and wild blueberries for our nut mix snack for during the week. A short wait outside to get in and a short line to check out as well. We buy our nuts for our own mix, just so we can have hazelnut in the mix and wild blueberries too.

Golam's wife used to fry delicious potato and vegetable samosas and sell them there but now they only sell them frozen. The produce can be bad, but it can also be very good. If you need to find ripe bananas in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area Golam will probably have some. He also sells plantains, oranges, apples , onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes, parsley, cilantro, celery, cucumbers, and many other seasonal fruits and veggies like pomegranates, persimmons, strawberries. I don't think any of the produce has the proper price label on it but the prices are reasonable and Golam will discount things that are getting old. There are many grocery type items as well. HUGE spice selection. Packaged spices as well as by the pound. There is a credit card minimum...

This shop has various Indian spices , rice( basmati), lentils, tea, coffee, cooking oil, ghee and many more items. Very much like a regular grocery store. The main items though are various Bangladeshi fish (frozen) and meat. Chicken, mutton, lamb, beef are the usual items here. The owner is very friendly and understands the meat quality. They even take preorders if you have big events and need large amounts of meat or fish. They can cut the pieces as you desire. This shop have plenty of free parking space too. The only big issue it the pricing of the meat and fishes. They are quite high in comparison to the Bangladeshi stores in Hamtramck. We always buy fish and meat from Golam but recently we started to buy same items from Detroit area through our Frieda who live nearby and it costs us half the price. This is the only shop of this kind in this area so maybe the higher price is justified.

My partner attended the University of Michigan for undergrad all the way through her PhD (roughly…read more10 years). When I met her in 2018, she introduced me to the wonderful place that is By The Pound (we affectionately refer to it as BTP), and it was always a treat to visit. We always stocked up on their candy (which, by the way, is of the highest quality and with EXTREMELY fair prices), coffee, almost any flour you can think of, and any odd spice that you may need. If you only need a tablespoon of something for a recipe that isn't in your cupboard, you don't have to go to Meijer and buy a whole bottle of something you'll rarely ever use! The employees are all very friendly as well. Whenever you need assistance, they go above and beyond to help. Since, we moved to Athens, GA, and BTP is at the top of the list (right next to Sparrow Meat Market) of stores we miss. We often talk about tossing our graduate degrees and just opening up a bulk foods shop here in town. We miss having this resource at our fingertips. The past 2 years, we return to the Michigan area during the winter holidays and always make sure to stop at BTP. Their treats make great stocking stuffers, and I ALWAYS have to stock up on those dark chocolate coconut clusters (I just finished the last one -- hence writing this review -- and I'm sad I can't find anything like them on the internet or here in town). Anyways, highly, HIGHLY recommend By The Pound.

Loads of dry goods in terms of food including nuts, lentils, beans, cereals, flour (all kinds), teas, spices, candy but also some liquids - honey, vanilla extract, etc. love that I can choose my own amount 1/4 lb 1/2 lb etc. but now super conscious when I'm using too much plastic bags. Price are decent - you pay a little more for convenience of options. Employees are friendly and helpful. This is my new go to for Brazilian nuts, split peas, dark chocolate covered cherries, and more ! Conveniently located off Stadium & South Industrial. Highly recommend
