She cut my hair short and then tried to use a hairdryer and comb to make it look like the pictures, but it did not work. I showed her the reference photos again and asked if she could get help from someone else. She asked a colleague, who showed her how to cut the style, but she still seemed unsure how to do it. Eventually, the owner had to step in and finish the haircut for me. For a long-hair haircut that cost about $100 total ($85 for the haircut plus a $15 tip), I was very disappointed with the experience. At this price point, I expected the stylist to be able to achieve the hairstyle she had confirmed she could do, or to be upfront from the beginning if it was outside her expertise. Unfortunately, based on my experience, it was not worth the price or time.

There are certain things you don't mess around with haircuts and facials and are two of them! You don't want to mess around looking for someone that is skilled and actually listens to your individual needs, not just applying the same routine on each customer! I can't even remember when I started going Trish but I do know I will never stop! She listens to what you tell her you want/need from you hair plus gives great feedback on what is possible based on your hair type (thickness, curliness,etc.) She is always prompt and very easy company. I have the dreaded baby fine, straight hair that has been my challenge for as long as I can remember. And then I found Trademark. Thanks to Trish, the challenge is over. She's been cutting it for years, we've plunged into color in the past few and I am always happy with it. Her prices are quite reasonable and the location is easy to get to. Aside from all that, she's a lovely lady who will listen to your woes, or leave you alone to read the latest US Weekly, whatever your mood may be. Kisses to the hair goddess. Cassie reached out to apologize…read moreabout our interaction and also refunded me for the service - which I appreciate - more so because of the humility and courage it takes to apologize, since it was never about the refund. OG post: I'm actually very sad to write this review because sanctuary salon and Cassie have always been my go to when it comes to getting a decent haircut or color in the city. And while Cassie is an incredible and talented stylist and I've always loved her work (5/5 to her for that) - this review is about how she handles customer service as a salon owner and also about the apprentice program. How she speaks to customers is unbelievably condescending and rude and why after leaving the salon in tears I will no longer be coming back here. To back up - Cassie posted about her needing a model for her apprentice program on her instagram for grey coverage. I put my hand up and her apprentice, Danielle, messaged me directly. She booked me for an appointment - I received no confirmation or communication about price or time taken, but I figured it was just grey coverage (I do it myself at home and it takes 10 mins) and it's part of a learning program so it couldn't be too bad. I get to the salon, she makes me sign a waiver "no refunds for this apprentice program" - I figured okay... still just gray coverage and it's just paperwork. So I sign it. The apprentice stylist has a mentor the whole time she's working with me. When she applies the color, she tells me the process is 4 hours and $100?!!! Which I didn't know on either count before. But it's too late to do anything at this point so I'm like fine? And the apprentice has a mentor who she keeps asking questions to so it seems like she can figure it out and keep it going 4 hours later, after a mediocre blow out, I see that maybe 5/500 grays covered. I'm confused - how could this be messed up? When I ask the mentor - she's confused too. The apprentice stylist basically shrugs and says "grays can be resistant." Mentor calls Cassie in. Cassie enters the conversation - basically starts with boilerplate "it's an apprentice program you signed the contract this is all we can do for you, guess it didn't work out this time". When I ask her what she thinks of the work - she asks the apprentice what she did. On hearing her plan (applying permanent color only on 1 inch of the root and then toning the rest of the black below) her feedback is basically "no that's not right, you should've done more permanent color and double processed it". So I finally realize what happened - the apprentice did the wrong thing - which is totally fine cause she's learning and this is what the appointment was about. What shocked me was that her mentor didn't know any better either and approved her plan with no feedback to fix it. I then tell Cassie that what's done is done for today, but for future feedback for paying clients, apprentice program or not, that maybe she should listen to her apprentice's plan earlier and provide her expert feedback before they start executing. She turns around and says "I don't need your feedback, I've been doing this a long time". Then she begins to berate me and says "you're not a good fit for the apprentice program" and basically blames, shames and belittles me for not being happy that I spent 4 hours and $100 for basically nothing?! I honestly wanted to cry - but instead decided to have a reasonable conversation with Cassie to let her know that feedback is a gift and she can choose to take it or leave it. She makes it clear she's "too busy handling a renovation on the 2nd floor and it's not her job to supervise the apprentices or the new mentors on the floor." I realized it was pointless to continue on - so I paid the $100, cried and left. I wanted to share this experience despite being conflicted about it because of how talented Cassie is as a stylist. But as a stylist and salon owner, you provide service to people - but this is obviously not something sanctuary is able to do. A little kindness in this situation would've gone a long way but that was not the path chosen.

I found Mia on social media (TikTok) and after a couple of months I chose to book an appointment through the salon's online booking system. I booked for the following day, and my appointment was approved by the night before! As far as hair styling pricing goes, this salon's prices are really hard to beat! $100 cut and $100 color?! That's amazing. Onto the actual salon (and I'll finish with the experience). This place is SO incredibly charming and charismatic inside. The decor is not only gorgeous but also intentional! There's a fully stocked waiting room which I actually used and felt comfortable in, not something that's typical for me! That waiting room had tea, coffee, still and sparking water! A ton of awesome cups that looked like they were hand picked for the space (the details do matter). The bathroom was incredibly with wallpaper enthusiastically showing off many bird species. There was a coat closet for both hanging coats but also for choosing whichever salon robe you liked best! The salon space itself was full of natural light and thus perfect for the service it's used for! To the experience: Mia was absolutely AMAZING. I cannot find the adequate words to describe how at ease she made me feel as someone with severe anxiety. She asked questions and listened to my stream-of-consciousness ideas about the haircut until we decided on a game plan, and then she got to work! She did EXACTLY what I asked for, a cut to give me face-framing layers and some layers in the back to lighten my very long hair's load on my scalp. I already adore my new hair but honestly, the experience Mia provided was so noteworthy that, I have to gush! She had questions lined up to fill that often awkward silence during haircuts and I so appreciated that. She also gave me totally solid advice on what to do in the future with potential coloring sessions. I'm really grateful to have found Mia on TikTok, because if I hadn't, my hair would've been the same tonight as it was yesterday! Mia you ROCK, and I will be back.

Until 2021 when I started going to this salon. Carmen is just incredible with finding the right color for you. And Alex is truly the best at giving you a haircut that matches your expectations and your hair texture. He listens and starts cutting your hair dry, washes it and perfects the cut before blow drying your hair. He's a perfectionist and you can tell he went to a top school. Cara was extremely flexible on getting me booked at a mutually agreeable time. Since there was an unfavorable review about using a certificate for the service, I was elated when Cara not only encouraged me to come in on a busy Saturday, but she at no point flinched when I handed her my certificate. I sat in the chair and told her I simply wanted a low light of dark brown strands to even out my haircolor. The bottoms were that ligher reddish fade from a box dye a million years ago. She got her color wheel out and after consulting me on the colors and my roots, convinced me to put mostly lowlights in but to add a few highlights. to keep the color vibrant. I was unsure about highlights because I wanted very low maintenance hair, but I decided to try it her way. I'm so glad I did! The color was AMAZING and not 'highlighty' in that bleached out fake way. It looks so fantastic and blended. It's multifacited without being a shocking contrast. I love the color! As for the cut, I have curly hair so I usually have to go in saying, "No short layers as I don't want to look like an 80's hair band video, and please nothing too short in the front cause that can become a mullet quickly." Again Cara, who has curly hair, recommended I take significant length off the front to lighten the curl and frame my face better. She promised long bangs and long layers. Every snip my hair felt better. I didn't realize how badly I needed a cut till she shaped my hair. I had her blowdry it straight so I could see the cut and color perfectly. I was ELATED! After she took her time putting in two separate hair color lowlights and highlights in fastidiously placed areas, and a very detailed and not rushed cut, she honored the bloomspot certificate with NO additional charge!!!!! She didn't even try to high pressure me in to buying product! I of course did buy a fair amount of product (all very reasonably priced for Redken and Chi brand). I wanted to ensure this supreme color and cut looked just as amazing at home so I knew I needed high quality products. The real test came this week when I wore my hair curly and styled it at home--I am the kind of girl who can hardly place my ponytail centered so this was the true test. I got sooooooooooo many compliments. I NEVER get compliments cause my curls usually get funky, but the cut she gave really did make a great difference on how the weight of the curls would fall and how easy it is for me to do at home. After some hours and constant foil checks and just body checks overall (asking me if I wanted to stretch, needed a break, water, food and a drink) my hair was at a comfortable level where she felt she didn't fry it but it could be lifted safely. Many will lighten you fast slab some stuff on and send you on your way just for you to wash style and it's falling apart. This was not that kind of horror story. We applied the color and it looked beautiful. As I went with her I learned so much about coloring and detail. Emily was and is the best at it. Our sessions are not only satisfying in the hair aspect, but we've shared so many funny stories and memories that Siren Salon is a place I go to decompress and visit what feels like old friends. The vibe is great too, the other stylist make it feel like they've serviced you with how friendly they are. And let's not forget how talented Micah and Melinda are. I'm so grateful I've found a place to not only service my hair needs but to feed my soul with care and positivity. I tell people all the time about Emily and when they go somewhere else and I see their hair they say "I knowww I should've gone to your girl." I always reply "you need an amazing COLORIST someone who knows the science of hair" and that is exactly what Emily is. I've added pictures below... Thank you for coming to my ted talk!

There's no one else I would rather go on my hair journey with than her. She's been cutting and coloring my hair for three years now and even though I live near Brisbane and it's an utterly arduous trek to get to that part of the city, it is absolutely 100 percent worth. She is so SO sweet, considerate, honest and transparent about the process and results. I spend the entire few hours just chatting away with her and it just flies by cause I'm having so much fun.
