Tempura fried shrimp was good but got soggy quickly. Mojito was freshly squeezed and a bit sour. Views were spectacular from the balcony seats. The mahi mahi was delicious. I would have liked it without the green sauce it came with. I switched out the ginger rice for red beans & rice ($6 upcharge) and added tostones (another $6 upcharge). The churrasco plate was very flavorful. The meat was tender and juicy which isn't always easy to do with a thin piece of meat. The rice it came with was also very well seasoned. Service was good. Happy hour crowd on a weekday was non-existent at this location. Had the place almost to ourselves. The hours are a bit unusual as they only open for dinner Mon-Wed. Overall, we're glad we tried it. Can't say a single thing bad about this place. First, our server Kari was top notch. She was a joy and elevated the mood on a stormy night, plus offered up great suggestions on drinks and the menu. Our food was impeccable, especially the lobster freshly caught by the owners family. Worth every cent it was for a fresh seafood meal. On a final note, if the bartender is Joseph when you visit, expect a cocktail that competes with high end bars than what you may find a big city like NY or Miami. Beautiful setting. Really beautiful. And our waiter was really nice. The food was a mixture of good and not good. The vegan paella had a nice flavor, but needed more substance. There was no protein, and very, very few vegetables, so it mostly felt like eating nicely flavored rice. Great to have a vegan option, just need to add some protein (beans would be fine) and more vegetables. And maybe consider a sauce that is not just ketchup for the plantains. My family said the fish was cooked very skillfully and had good flavor, but came with a very large quantity of plain white rice. The lobster fritters were raw on the inside, the steaks were tough and charred to carbon on the edges, the 'chimichurri' is just oily salsa, the sangria was bitter, the lobster was cooked beyond recognition, and we waited for this epic fail of a meal for over an hour and a half. If I could give this restaurant negative stars I would. But unfortunately the lowest you can give is one star. This place is extremely unprofessional, rude, and does not take food allergies seriously. If anyone in your party has a food allergy I would be very hesitant to eat here. My boyfriend is very allergic to shrimp. We started off by ordering an appetizer that had a few different types of seafood mixed into it. It did not mention shrimp on the menu but we made sure to double check with our waitress prior to ordering. We were ensured by her that it did not contain shrimp AND that she would inform the chef in order to make sure none of his food was cooked using the same utensils etc as those with shrimp. After her assurance we proceeded to order the app as well as our entrees. The app of mixed seafood came out first. We were half way through eating it when all of a sudden I pull a shrimp out of it. We proceed to find a few more shrimp pieces. My bf immediately took his allergy medications to get ahead of his reactions. We then flagged over the waitress and showed her the shrimp. She profusely apologized and said that it shouldn't have been there, continually apologizing and then telling us she would speak with the chef. She left to go back to the kitchen. Where we assumed she would speak with the chef. She came back shortly after and all she asked is if she should leave the app on the table or not. No other words of assurance, an apology, or offering to swap out the app or anything. After she left our entrees were shortly brought to our table IN TO GO BAGS! Clearly the restaurant did not want us there if my bf potentially had a really bad allergic reaction. The message was very clear that they wanted us out. We obliged and proceeded to walk to the front to pay the bill that was given us, in which they never removed the appetizer we didn't finish that my bf had an allergic reaction to. When we went to the front to pay my bf spoke with the manager there about the situation. She gave us a ton of attitude and told us that THE KITCHEN CAN'T MAKE ANY PROMISES ON WHAT IS INCLUDED IN SEAFOOD DISHES. EVEN THOUGH THE MENU DOESN'T LIST SHRIMP THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES THAT IT'S NOT THERE. I was astounded. I have worked in the service industry for over 10 years. I would NEVER treat my customers like this. I would certainly never charge them for an app that could cause one of them to die if they ingested it. I also would never say there's no guarantees an item they don't want to eat won't be in their food. That's like a vegetarian ordering a salad and the restaurant telling them there's no guarantees that some steak might not end up in their salad! Just not what it used to be. The service is fine. The location is still terrific. The menu has been pared down DRAMATICALLY. (It was excessively varied before.) We had x2 orders of chicken Alfredo. My wife had the churrasco with pineapple relish. We all agreed that the food was strangely overly and under seasoned? It had herbs in the alfredo that were not typical but overpowering but lacking in garlic. My wife said her steak was almost sweet and lacked any beef flavor. We get that the island makes serving dinner (and it's closed Sunday/Monday/Tuesday) challenging but it was just really underwhelming. Anyhow this is what we ordered Conch fritters - the best I've ever had other than in jamaica. It's bits of conch mixed with other ingredients then formed into a ball and deep fried, served with tar tar sauce. Lrg snapper, deep fried served with beans, garlic rice, and plantans... Fish was fried perfectly, however, it did needed some salt. Butter was available for dipping, it too was lacking salt! The rice, beans plantans were so delicious! I usually don't eat beans and rice, but this was exceptional. Plantans were deep fried til it was golden brown crisp, sweet like bbanana, yet crunchy like a potato chip :) Chicken spaghetti - its okay. Chkn was very dry. House marinera was delicious though. The snotty little waitress, well she deserved the glare and def needs training in customer service. The food was the worst I have had on the island in 15yrs. Ugh. 3 friends and I stayed here for 2 nights from 2/1-2/3. Dinner - upon arrival, we had dinner as we were starving and had a $100 voucher toward our food. I ordered el dorado fish with citrus and almond oil, broccoli and rice, which I enjoyed very much. Breakfast - complimentary w/our stay. I ordered the cheese omelet which was good (not the greatest but not the worst). Now the home fries were crispy and delicious! I had the french toast on the 2nd day which is made with pan de agua ("water bread" or ordinary bread in other words). I thought it was creative but it was a bit too much for me bc it's 6 pieces so I ate half and my friend ate the other half. It was heavily sprinkled with cinnamon which I love but if you don't, beware. Coffee was good. They have hot milk which is a latino thing to drink coffee with hot milk. Drinks - I was wowed by their skinny margarita (patron tequila, cointreau and a fresh lime). This was my favorite!!! I hate margaritas made with the bottled margarita mixer - it's so unnatural! This was the only place I ordered margaritas from and didn't mind paying the price of $12 each. Room - Very pleasant. Northeastern bed and breakfast style. We had Room #10 which has a decorative thick glass as a portion of the wall to allow natural light in. The only thing I was taken aback was the lack of shampoo, conditioner or body wash, which is typical of any hotel. No biggie bc I carried my own travel sized toiletries in case. Biobay Pkg - it was ok. Was disappointed that I didn't get to see more fluorescence in the water. Nonetheless the guides were funny and knowledgeable of the stars, which I enjoyed pretty much. If not for the overnight stay, I would definitely go to the bar for the skinny margaritas!!! read more

If you do end up here I would sit on the deck and order a reasonably priced cocktail and conch fritters (maybe a burger). Aside from that, it seemed like everything the group ordered was lacking flavor. The rum punch was mediocre compared to others. The calamari was tough. Out of 3 people with different preferences on quantity of salt, we all added salt to everything. The fish, rice, veggies, and pasta. My husband and I ate here on our honeymoon last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff was wonderful. We ordered the shrimp pasta with Thai curry and the lobster pasta in the garlic sauce. I also had the passionfruit martini, which was the special cocktail of the night. I was delighted with the FRESH and flavorful vegetables and fruits that were in the pasta! I kept raving about that one particular aspect all week! The pastas in general were delicious. The lobster was done perfectly, and the curry worked so well with the shrimp. The only thing I'd change when I go back: I'd ask the chef to hold back on the garlic in that garlic sauce. (I have a sensitive palette.) We had dinner here on the advice of a nice gentleman. Where it does have a good view I would not recommend for dinner. We had one of the pasta dishes with flounder and while the pasta was good the flounder tasted frozen. We also had the artichoke hearts with Gorgonzola cream the dish tasted flat and there were large chunks of a cheese (not Gorgonzola) that could not be distinguished from the artichoke. We stopped in to Tradewinds one day right as they were starting dinner and got a seat in the bar area looking out toward Esperanza beach. Because they were just starting service and we were sitting in the bar area, there was some confusion as to whether we had to order at the bar or if we had a server so getting everything (including the check) took a long time and there was a lot of hopping up and sitting back down. Sweetie got the conch fritters which were pretty good, and I had some sort of pasta dish which was fine but way over priced for the contents. The pinas were decent and pretty sweet, which I liked. All in all, it was fine, but I think they charge more than the food/atmosphere are worth.
