I wasn't sure if she remembered me. She was happy to see three of her classmates attending the service. The chapel is indeed a beautiful one with the stained glass windows and chandeliers. I was amazed to see her family relatives and friends who were there to show her love and support during difficult times. Even more amazing was the people who attended had some connection to my classmates and me. It's a small world as to who we know. I enjoyed sharing high school memories, despite the circumstances. Fellowship among people attending is important and it is showing support and love for each other. I thanked my classmate, Jennifer, for giving me a ride from Alameda to Tracy for the memorial service for "Poncho".

I was concerned because the service was the next day and it was an open casket service. One of the lovely staff members said she was going to call an eyeglass company to see how she could fix them without damaging them. They just went above and beyond on multiple occasions. It's a clean office with displays of headstones available. I was warmly greeted by Amber and she was so helpful. She put together a mock up of the headstone so that I had a general idea of what it would look like and so that I could share it with my family. When I went back I spoke to the manager (?) and he put together the final stone. Payment was super easy (online) and the prices were great. Today, I am here with my son, and ex brother in laws and nephew. Beautiful grounds, and right off the freeway. The employee was very respectful and took care of sealing the urn box and placing it in the grave. He even created a space for the flowers to stand up. So glad I made it down, and able to say my final good bye.

I was looking at mortuaries, alone with an unfamiliar duty in an unfamiliar location. I finally turned to Yelp to see what was posted about mortuaries I'd looked at when David from Honor Cremations popped up to say he thought he could help me. I truly felt an instant feeling of safety and trust. Sometimes we're lucky enough to get guidance. David is kind, sympathetic and morale. I spent the next several years feeling secure for when the time came. One of the few things I was able to feel secure about. When my husband did pass in the middle of the night in the veteran hospital hospice, they knew to call Honor. Because it might take time for Honor to arrive, the hospital wanted to take my husband to their mortuary and I refused saying we would wait for Honor. I trusted them and knew he'd be in good hands and those feelings were right. The gentleman who arrived to take my husband helped the nurse prepare him so when he came out of the room he was draped in the American flag. With everything else my husband and I went through with the change in care facilities, finances, and just 'handling it all' as my husband's condition worsened over the years, David's honesty and compassion took this step off my shoulders.
