Earlier this week I went in and was greeted by a man with dark hair, and got help from an employee named Josh. Josh went above and beyond to explain the process and listened to my story with compassion: my grandmother just passed away and left me more items than I expected. I went in knowing they only took silver and gold at the moment, but again, the process was so smooth and Josh was very friendly and professional. Fast forward to today. I went in and saw Josh, who was with another customer, so I decided to go to the blonde woman seated at the counter. No smile, no welcoming energy, and she barely even blinked when I explained my story and commended Josh for doing an excellent job. Not only did she toss my items around as if they were trash, she had the audacity to grab the items I WAS CURRENTLY SORTING THROUGH to check them. I said, in a polite tone, "I would rather hand the pieces to you myself, not to be rude." No one else was in the store and I wasn't taking my time, she was just rushing me. When she finally took the items worth anything, I already knew in my mind I didn't want to do business with her. And when I said I'd rather take it to someone else she gave a snotty "Okay" and didn't even tell me to have a good day. Basic Customer Service. Pawn Shop, McDonald's, JCPenney, wherever you work with people you have to be SOMEWHAT personable. The only reason I would go back is to have Josh assess my items. But the blonde employee put a super bad taste in my mouth. This is the kind of thing that makes or breaks repeat business for me. So if you DO go in, see Josh, amazing customer service and truly seemed to care!

I gave her $10, and the amount owed was $7.50. She brought back my change and told me she was giving me $2.50, then placed the money in the slot. I noticed she said "$2.50," but I only saw $2 in bills and a few (dimes and nickels,) so I asked if she had any quarters. She said no, and I told her that was fine. I took my change and left. However, when I got to my car, I counted the change because something didn't feel right. I realized that she had only given me $2.40 instead of $2.50, leaving me 10 cents short. I walked back inside, and I saw her come to the window and place two nickels in the slot without saying a word. There was no apology or acknowledgment of the mistake. I walked back out to my car AND THEN noticed that my earring holder was missing from my jewelry box. I realized that when I originally pawned my earrings, I had given them the earring holder that contained my earrings. So, I went back inside ONCE AGAIN to ask if they still had my holder. This time, a man came to the window, and I asked if they still had my earring holder. He went to the back and asked the young woman about it. She became very loud with him and spoke as though I had accused her of something ABSOLUTELY heinous. I was surprised by her negative reaction, especially since I was simply asking about an item that belonged to me. The owner eventually came out. He was kind and professional, and I appreciate that he made an effort to rectify the situation. He gave me a new jewelry box, which I appreciated. That is why I am giving this business 2 stars (instead of 1). Lastly, 10 cents and a bad attitude may not seem like a big deal, but small situations like this can easily become a bigger issue in the future, especially when dealing with customers' money and personal belongings. I hope all employees receive the proper training and customer-service guidance to ensure situations like this do not happen again.

I showed him the ring and the appraisal and he told me that if he was able to sell it, he would only be able to give me 10% of the appraised price. He talked down the size of the stone, the clarity, and told me a story about the diamond market being flooded by a Russian company between the appraisal and now. I have not tried to confirm the last point. It wasn't explicitly negative or rude, but he made sure that I understood that I wouldn't get much anywhere. I want to believe that he was on the up and up, but there is that doubt, especially with such a business. I just don't know what to believe.

The employee assisting me (thin, dark glasses, beard) examined the chain and said, "what you've got here is a broken 10k chain." I corrected him and showed a close-up photo of the 18k marking, at which point he immediately acknowledged it. He also implied that because the chain was broken, it was worth less. However, when gold is being purchased for melt value, condition (broken or intact) does not impact the underlying value. He then weighed it and offered $70. When I mentioned the current gold price, he asked what it was, and after I told him, increased the offer to $80. When I didn't accept, he asked what I was hoping to get. During the exchange, he also stated, "this is a for-profit business." In my experience, reputable gold buyers operate using a consistent percentage of the spot price. That did not appear to be the case here--the pricing felt arbitrary and not tied to a clear or consistent method.
