So...I try to wait 24 hours before I go on any major rant on a social media website of any sort. I've waited and now, here it is. For about two years, we've been seeing a pediatric dentist in Timonium by the name of Dr. Alarcon. I would not recommend her to ANYONE! Each time we go, Dr. Alarcon proceeds to give a long list of problems and the worst case scenarios of what could possibly go wrong, all while my girls are laying with their mouths open with her hands in their mouths. I personally find that to be terrible bedside manner and finally at our last check up asked as tactfully as possible that any review of their treatment take place privately outside of their earshot. Mostly because the girls walk away every time feeling hopeless and horrible. At the time she agreed but did admit she did it purposely to encourage children to floss. I very clearly and politely told her that "This tooth is destroyed and there is a chance of bacterial infection" (her exact words right in front of my daughter) is a very different (not to mention scary) message than "this area really needs a lot more flossing." Two different messages. Two different tones. And yet there is more. I also very clearly told her that my youngest daughter (just turned 7) should really never be in the chair for more than 20 minutes, 30 at the most. At our visit yesterday, she had my daughter in the chair for over an hour and did over $1200 worth of dental work. Granted most of that is covered by insurance but how many people (adults even) get that much dental work in one sitting? After 45 minutes, I was asking if it was almost over. At no point did Dr. Alarcon tell me she was doing this amount of extensive work. I was never given a treatment plan and I never signed anything. We went in with the impression that my daughter was getting two fillings. She got 7. When the appointment was finally drawing to a close, Dr. Alarcon then asked me to meet her in the hallway. I thought this was a good sign that she was listening to my request regarding discretion. Well, my relief was short lived as once we got to the hallway, Dr. Alarcon conveniently told me that she would no longer accept us as patients. That we were not welcome at her practice again. I was floored. Are you kidding me, lady? You mean you took it personally that I asked you to be discreet in what you say in front of my kids and you tell us not to come back? Had she told me she was planning to complete all of my daughter's dental work in one sitting so that she could dismiss us, I would've never agreed and so she did it without my knowledge or consent and a 7 year old little girl who was squirming and whining to get out of the chair was the one who had to suffer through it. Mama Bear is in an uproar and you damn sight better believe a formal complaint to the Better Business Bureau and the Maryland Dental Board are well on their way. And Dr. Alarcon- good riddance! read more
