While waiting in line, Reaper was having fun looking at the chickens which you can see by my photo =) The line was rather long and it felt like it took forever. It might have seemed longer than it really was because Reaper was a bit whiney. The employee who checked us out was friendly. I would definitely visit this store again if in the area.

The staff carries heavy 50 lb bags of feed out to the customers' cars. You can buy feed for chickens and rabbits here as well as suet and birdseed and birdfeeders. The store carries Mazuri brand feed which is the very best for geese and ducks. They also have Oxbow which is the best brand for rabbits and guinea pigs. Prices are comparable to other stores in the area. The town of South Plainfield recognized this business and a few others in town for their importance in the economy of the area for over 100 years. This store has an excellent reputation. I hope they will be open for another 100 years!

I thought maybe the sold me the wrong sized tire but eventually I realized the tire was not inflated properly. I filled the tire with air and it was fine. Two weeks later, the tire was flat indicating a slow leak. I took the tire back to fix the slow leak and they said they couldn't find the leak. Ok, you sold me a new tire that leaked so replace it with another new tire. But no, they put a tube in the tire. Ok, not what I expected but that's fine. My guess is they didn't even look for the leak. BUT THEY CHARGED ME FOR THE TUBE!!! They said they gave me a break and didn't charge me for the labor, huh??? THEY SOLD ME A NEW TIRE THAT LEAKED AND I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR!!!! Not to mention, when I picked up the tire, I waited forever for service. 3 people at the counter and noone offered help. Luckily, someone came from the back and offered assistance. Who knows how long I would have waited if he didn't come out. NOT IMPRESSED.

It's hard to find a place that can provide straw bales that can guarantee they haven't been treated with pesticides and herbicides, but Metlars Farms said they could. Prices were extremely reasonable, and delivery was incredibly fast: 24 hours after making the call, I had 20 straw bales in my garage! The straw is great, and we are seasoning it for planting in May! They make the bales a little longer than average, for planting purposes. This is a very friendly and knowledgeable place, who didn't seem to think it was the least bit crazy to deliver all that straw to a postage stamp yard in a pretty urban suburb. We are hoping to become regular customers if all goes well this year! Excellent service and so far, a product that seems like it will be perfect for gardening.

Good mechanics off site at their other location to do repair and prep work. Give this local shop a try - much safer than taking a shot at a big box store.

But after visiting again today after calling to confirm they carried a particular feed, and then discovering they *don't* actually have it (after driving over a half hour) They just stared at me blankly. No offers of help, just blank stares. They always seem put out to be there, or to offer any help or answer questions. The store is beautiful and they have lots of products, but I won't be coming here again after giving them 5-6 tries. Tractor Supply is less well-stocked, but at least I don't feel like I'm intruding just walking in.
