My father inlaw bought a horse at the sale on 6/22/19 sellers being Aspen Ranch out of Valley…read moreSprings, South Dakota. That night he had dropped the horse off at our house and asked my husband to ride him to see how he was. 10 minutes into him riding the horse he put him in a trot and there was a very obvious limp. We couldn't get ahold of a vet on Sunday as this was not an "emergency" and we knew we needed to get this done by Monday at noon to have any sort of money compensation. They picked the horse up early Monday and off to Billings they went to try and get this done. They called the sale and asked for their vets number and was given a number and had people meet them. My husband got on the horse and rode it bareback and the lady kept saying she didn't see the limp. He saddled him up and put him in a trot and sure enough there it was. In the time between this my father in-law asked which one was the vet to which they replied neither. This was the whole purpose... to get the vet to check the horse. It was the manager of the sale, Jann. She was very direct to them "Kyle" from Aspen ranch would never sell a horse or bring a horse like that to the sale. After all, Jan, is very proud that they sell good horses. "OUR SOUNDNESS GUARANTEE: Credibility and Dependability are important to us" - direct from their web page. Anyway, they make a deal since the vet wasn't there like they had planned noon was approaching, the sellers took half off and were told they didn't have their normal farrier trim and shoe the horse and so chalked it up as he was sore from being trimmed. Straight from Billings they drove to Montana Equine in Three Forks. We get him x-rayed. Turns out this horse has navicular and has had it for YEARS. The VERY reputable vet said there is no way the previous owner could not of known. My problem comes with the sale manager here - when I called her to tell her of this issue she would NOT let me talk. I had to talk louder and louder just to get a word in. I'm assuming she thought I wanted money back when in fact I thought her being a "reputable" person would want to know who is coming through her sale. We love the horse, he will be fine for what we need him for. Aspen Ranch has multiple better business bureau complaints (found this out after the fact) for doing the same thing - Google will allow you to see. Jann wanted nothing to do with hearing me out about this. She kept defending "Kyle" saying he would never do that. ANY horse person with experience would know the moment they got on that horse in a trot there was an issue. If this were an isolated case that would be different, but its not. She did not care. She hung up on me then called me RIGHT back to let me know when I could talk to her "rationally" then I could call back. No thanks, Jann. My family and I will take our money and go with honest DEPENDABLE people from now on. I hope this can help someone else out in the future. Its a great place for a seller. This lady will have your back, clearly. But buyers beware.
