One of the staff guided us through everything we needed and why, which fish to consider and why. Patient, knowledgeable, and helpful. Probably spent 20 minutes with us. We walked out with a 10 liter starter aquarium kit, three fish, and food, and what we needed to know to get started. If you're doing pet fish in Richmond, check out Fin & Feather.

It's a nice sized store- definitely much smaller than a place like pet smart, but the people working there seem to have a lot of knowledge about their products. They also adjusted the fit of the harness and collar to my dog, which was great. The prices seemed on par or lower than you would get at other pet stores. I also appreciate that although the store is located inside the spca, it's at the very front, so if you're just there to shop it's easy to access. I'm sure I'll be back when we need more pet products!

The inventory is always updated and fresh, but you can also trust that you'll find your favs and staples , too. The prices are good and, best of all, the proceeds to back to the animals in the care of the organization. Buying toys, treats, leashes, you name it, while giving back to homeless pets? Yes, please! I think this shop is a bit of a hidden gem because it's physically small and placed within the SPCA itself, but do not let that fool you! They have more than you'll ever need. I've gotten everything from an adorable kids' book to doggie life jackets to cat litter there and been pleased with the products, service and overall experience every time. And, even if you have a special request, they can still order it for you, just ask. The staff is very knowledgeable and can tell you about the use of each project (like gentle leaders and special harnesses and such) and really help you help your pets, not just sell you stuff. If you live in the Richmond area and have pets or friends and family members who love animals, this is the place to go for gifts and supplies.

I called ahead to see if they had a product and it sounded like the associate was unfamiliar with the particular thing I was asking about. When I asked further if there was another product similar because I stated people use it all the time, she hung up on me. THAT is unprofessional. So, I looked online and sure enough, they have it! All associates should be knowledgeable about all their products and if they are unfamiliar, they should ask another associate. I certainly will continue shopping there because they are convenient and generally carry whatever I need. But this associate does not reflect the way TSC operates and needs further training.

Skoolz of Fish is run by a very nice guy named Rama that I found through a Craigslist posting about 4 or so years ago. He started selling fish out of his house, but would only meet with you somewhere else to give you the fish. Now, he has a location off of Chamberlayne Ave in downtown RVA where you can go see the stock he has for yourself! The location is a bit iffy, in fact, the first time I came here, I was a bit hesistant to get out of my car...but rest assured that Rama is awesome. In fact, I'm not the only one who thinks so as I've seen several other customers come to him, especially when they know he has a new shipment coming in! I've since moved away from RVA, but I've heard he sells both freshwater and saltwater fish nowadays (he only had freshwater when I was setting up my tank). If he doesn't have it, he can definitely source it for you. I know for a fact that he has gotten axolotls in the past! Rama is very helpful with any questions you may have and very professional. His stock is always changing, so the best thing to do is either keep up with his facebook page or call him to see what he has. He's only at the Chamberlayne Ave location for a few hours everyday, but I'm pretty sure that he's flexible and can work out a meet up time with you if you can't come during his hours. Best of all, his prices are reasonable! If you need some aquatic stuff, definitely go to Skoolz of Fish. SUPPORT LOCAL! In this case, you won't regret it.
