Fenwick as a brand has 8 locations across the country and was founded here in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This location is their flagship. The store has entrances on street level (Northumberland Street) as well as entrances from the mall. The store is open until 7 pm on most days, although opening hours can vary, this means they're generally open an hour later than John Lewis, which is the mall's other main department store. The store is fairly attractive, with modern and older parts and the selection again is reasonable. The renovation is starting to show which is ongoing to celebrate the store's 140th anniversary. The Food Hall area reminded me a little of a smaller version of Harrods, pricey for sure but they had a variety of items appearing to be high-quality, including some meats which looked of a fantastic quality. I much prefer the technology section at John Lewis nearby, however - although Fenwick for sure wins on the Food Hall side of things. 4*

I bought a magimix food processor, it wasn't a straight forward sale as I had to take it abroad. Lindsey and Helen really bent over backwards to help me find the right size, the colour I wanted, to wrap it well to take it on a plane ..... They couldn't have been nicer. A real pleasure in doing business with sales staff like that and they definitely make you want to shop at the store again.

I must admit that we often go in here to give my children a break from 'boring shopping' and they have a play with the new toys, the Thomas the Tank Engine wooden railway set a firm favourite. The staff never object. There's a variety of craft supplies for a range of ages and games galore as well as a book corner which isn't very big but has carefully selected titles. ELC toys are very well known and lots of fun for children so it can be a good place to buy presents for children.

This store is fantastic - it's just feels like you are entering a magical kingdom when you walk through the open entrance (not doors, it's all open fronted). It's brightly lit (very brightly lit) and well laid out - even the floor is magical. It's made up of shiny dark blue tiles with specks of glitter in them. It all adds to the experience and you walk in just desperate to find something to spend your hard earned pennies on! They sell Disney toys (of course), and clothing and mugs, and DVDs. They have plenty of children's dressing up clothes, but to be honest they are a little over-priced. You could easily pay £40 for a Disney Princess dress in the Disney store, but you can find a very similar dress somewhere like Asda for closer to £15. I definitely think you are paying for the name. Some of the toys you can get cheaper elsewhere, but there are some toys, and other things like the Disney mugs, that you can't get elsewhere. They have a small range of adult clothing, it's a bit disappointing really. Nice stuff, but not much to choose from. Overall, though, a lovely store and worth a visit for any big kids.

My favourite shop in Newcastle! Packed with comics, graphic…read morenovels, manga books, figurines, Studio Ghibli plushies, board games and loads more. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly and you can easily pre-order anything that's not in stock which has been really useful at times! Some of the chunkier graphic novels are occasionally on the expensive side (sometimes I have found cheaper elsewhere), but with a Travelling Man members card, discounts on certain titles or 3 for 2 (for example) offers are available sometimes so it's worth keeping an eye out for those. The shop can be a little awkward to sidle round when there's a lot of people in, but it's well laid out and organised and easy to spot on the outside with it's bright orange/blue storefront. Found many a Birthday/Christmas gift from there for like-minded geeky friends and family. They have a great small press section which is regularly replenished and aspiring comic artists can potentially sell their self published comics/zines in that section too. They also have a small Nobrow/Flying Eye book section which I love, as they are rarer to find in other places like Forbidden Planet. Monthly 'Paper Jam Comics Collective' meetings are held there on Thursdays as a get-together of comic artists/writers/fans to chat, make comics (and head to the pub after!) and the basement area is also host to a few gigs now and then. Heading there for Free Comic Book Day (1st Saturday in May) is a must! I went with my partner last year and unlike Forbidden Planet down the road who gave us a ready made bag of a few of the free comics on offer, at Travelling Man we could walk round the shop and choose any (or all) of the free comics available. Worth knowing if you're into that sort of thing :) Overall an awesome place!
