M & M News is a newsagents and Post Office in Newcastle city centre, towards the end of…read moreNorthumberland Street on Haymarket, fairly close to the Metro and bus station of Haymarket and the TSB bank, as well as a small Boots Chemist store also being nearby, to name just a few shops. As mentioned, this is a sub post office also meaning you can post items from here etc, without it being a main Post Office. They had a satisfactory selection of drinks, they seemed to be a little bit pricier than normal with no special offer and it could work out a considerable difference compared to buying drinks from the likes of Superdrug and WHSmith for example, who all have stores nearby and offers where you can get 2 drinks for between £2 and £2.50, meanwhile the same drinks here could possibly cost £2.60 or perhaps even more, with of course WHSmith have a greater selection anyway. Overall, the staff didn't seem too friendly and the overall feel and vibe of this store was a slight carelessness, cluttered nature and it just wasn't the nicest of newsagents or simply shops to shop in, I can't help but add that there are better alternatives for both Post Offices and newsagents elsewhere in Newcastle city centre, even on the same street as this is located (Northumberland Street) with the likes of Boots, Superdrug and WHSmith all having branches here where they have special offers on most of the time, for items you are most likely to buy from here such as drinks, and the WHSmith also has a main Post Office branch in too, which is probably your best bet for postal services so sadly I can't help but question the need for this store and feel M and M New's on Northumberland Street in the Haymarket area of Newcastle Upon Tyne sadly deserves a single one star rating.

Martins the Newsagents is a small shop but it always has up to date newspapers and magazines. There…read moreare usually plenty of staff serving at the counter so queues are kept to a minimum. The staff are friendly and enjoy a chat with you even if you just pop in for a packet of sweets or a paper. They are open from early morning until late evening so you can always depend on them in case you forget the evening paper or your lottery ticket! Great little local shop that sell a bit of everything.

The Works Factory Outlet is located in The Royal Quays Retail Outlet centre in the newly developed…read morequayside area in North Shields. I love this shop! On the whole it is a bookshop but it also sells a range or Stationery, cd's/dvd's (not recent chart ones though) gifts, cards etc at very affordable prices. I've picked up loads bargains here in the past! Everything is discounted so is always cheaper than the usual RRP. I've always found the staff there to be very pleasant and helpful. I never go to the Royal Quays without going in this shop because the stock is updated rregularly so you never know what bargains you might find! Because it is situated in a retail outlet centre it is in amongst a range of shops and there are plenty of places to eat nearby. There are hundreds of free parking spaces and it is quite easy to get to by bus or by metro (Royal Quays is about a 10min walk from Percy Main Metro Station).

Love Wilko's!! My personal 'go to' place for any home essentials at a bargain price!…read more There's always an offer to be had on cleaning products which understandably no one likes to pay a hefty price for, and there is a pretty sizeable interior decoration section upstairs with all the basics you might need to decorate your bathroom, living room, kitchen, bedroom or garden! Yes it's cheap but actually a lot of it is pretty decent quality too. If your home is in need of a refurb without breaking the bank balance then Wilko's is your store! If you're a sucker for pick n mix at the cinema I'd recommend getting yourself here as they sell Candy King sweets at much cheaper prices. Sometimes a flashback to childhood is just medicine! The only downsides to Wilko's are that the staff always seem irritated if you ask them anything and you will normally have to queue for a fair bit at the tills even when it's quiet.

Hands down I am a huge Wilkinsons fan! After four years of depriving myself from Wilko goodies, I…read moream happy to say that Wilkinsons is still the cheap, reliable place I remember it to be. This is the type of store great for bargain hunters wanting to add some flourish and essentials to their house. This store is huge so I haven't explored it much beyond the pet and stationery sections (the most important bits!) YET, but I can say that these departments are well stocked with a wide selection. As you enter, there's escalators going upstairs to the home department and a cafe, to the right are back-to-school deals and food with 5 till points beyond that. Deeper into the store on the right is the stationery section (which has a good range off DIY and card making goodies) and the pet section is further in with another entrance/exit at the back of the store. The pet aisle is quite big with a good range of own brand treats and branded treats that don't come with the supermarket price tags. The only reason why I'm giving a four-star rating is that there are definitely not enough staff on the tills so the queue was quite long. Also I noticed a lot of dust around and on products... a few more staff members wouldn't go amiss.

Cardmarkets is a great little card shop in the Denmark centre. It's is one of the only shops left…read morein the centre actually hmm anyway. They sell a wide range of cards suitable for all ages and occassions. They are a 'budget' card shop so their prices are very affordable and to be honest, some of the cards they sell I have seen in the more expensive card shops for double and even treble the price that Cardmarkets sell them for! There are many lovely designs available, I can usually find a card to suit most tastes. As well as cards, they sell giftwrap, tags, bags, birthday and party related items, a range of keepsakes for special occasions, and also a small selection of reasonably priced stationary. I always go here for brown tape and envelopes as they are the cheapest in the town. Definitely worth a look in :)

The staff are quite helpful and friendly however there has been a little bad press lately as they do not crb check staff, so that is something to think about! For those who are not familiar with the layout at the Intu Metro Centre it could be seen as quite complicated to get to, but don't let that put you off! The final thing I would mention is that although the store is huge, and has free parking etc it can often be more expensive than the other well known toy stores Smyths, The Entertainer etc but you can also pick up the occasional bargain!

Staff were very helpful on several occasions though it gets very busy - I was overcharged substantially on one occasion as the prices displayed and the scanned barcodes didn't match but customer service staff cheerfully sorted it out, though it did take a while. This store is located in the retail park across the road from the main Metrocentre site but it's easier to get to now that the intersection is traffic light controlled. I love browsing in the Lego selection, it's enormous.
