What a great and accommodating family run business. People will give us less stars really don't respect the nature of business this far out on the island. Conscientious and friendly owners really made a difference and accommodated us fantastically well. They've also been renovating the property which dates back to the 1800s. So be considerate and give them a thought when traveling in this area.

When booking the rooms the lady was very helpful over the phone. We booked two rooms. Was looking for a pleasant stay with nice staff. Check in time is 2p, we went a little early to checkin. The lady was extremely rude and told us check in was 2p and to come back. We came back, and she was still rude. We asked if we could put a hold on the room with a credit card like most hotels, not here. She handed over the keys and told us where to go. I wish I got her name.... We were in the gingerbread house, could tell it was out dated and both rooms were on the 2nd floor. Rooms were on small side but fine as we were not planning in being in the room much over the weekend. We received two keys to the room, both had the room number on the key however one was different and would not work...the shower was broken and we were unable to adjust. Luckily when we checked out, we got the pleasant lady... You get what you pay for, think about what you want and what you are looking for. It was a short walk to town, so there's that.

We came off season (mid-March) so it was in our budget (this place in the summer can go for 3x what we paid and its understandable). Completely renovated and modernized this motel was way more than we expected. The views of Shelter Island were gorgeous and the grounds were so nice to walk around. The lobby was warm and inviting as well, and they even have a small diner on property Nookies that we stopped by at for breakfast one morning and loved. Our room was stunning and had so many amenities. Small Smeg fridge, large closet with an iron/board, full length mirror, and safe. They even had beach towels for us (not that we needed them in March but they were a good touch). The smart TV was great to stream all our services and there was also a bluetooth speaker. There was a guide with motel facts and local things to do as well. The bathroom was also super modern and stylish and they had slippers and robes for us to use as well as full size pump shampoo/conditioner/body wash/hand wash/ and lotion. Maybe one day well be able to afford to stay for a beach day. We would love to come back!

I hung up immediately when I heard the voicemail greeting--no one ever actually answered, despite the manager later claiming staff "tried to take calls." In the morning, the manager refused to refund the room rate and only offered to waive the parking and resort fees. He suggested changing my room, but no immediate action was taken. Maintenance initially thought the noise was coming from the next room's bathroom. When they tried to investigate, the manager claimed the noise came from the neighboring guest instead and that they couldn't enter because the other guest was present. No proper investigation was completed, and my room remained unusable. I ended up paying for a room I could not use, with no real assistance overnight, and received dismissive and inaccurate responses from management. I hope the hotel improves communication, responsiveness, and accountability to prevent this from happening to other guests

The wrap around porch is awesome and I can see it being a great place to hang out and drink some wine on a warm day. There is a great sitting area on the inside as well. Everybody we ran into was very friendly. Our keys and a note were waiting for us when we entered the house and we had a note under our door in the morning with where to leave them. We actually never saw Joan at all during our stay but that was fine. Our room was beautiful and very comfortable. My only knock was that the back door was left unlocked. My wife and I tried but could not get the door to lock. I hope it's not left like this every night as that seems like a security hazard. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel to others, we had a great stay.
