This is a really nice, modern library. The state of Georgia has a system where you can check out…read morebooks from any library in the state PINES system. My local branch didn't have the book I wanted, so I took a day trip to Hall County to snag a copy of the book I was looking for. I called first, and they assured me they had the copy there and that they would set it aside for my arrival. Parking was free and easy. There were several spaces available right up front. Of course, I was there in the afternoon on a weekday. I imagine it might get busy if an event is going on, but it looked like they had more parking out back and on the street. The librarian was super nice and directed me to the books on hold and answered my questions about books available in other languages. I ended up leaving there with the book I was looking for as well as a few books in Spanish so that I could further practice my low level comprehension skills. I was able to extend my checkout of these books online and then return them to my local branch library instead of having to make the drive to Hall County again. Although, I wouldn't have minded it. Their library still has that "new car scent". Not really, but the place is pristine and welcoming.

The Jackson County Public Library sits inside the old courthouse at the top of the hill, and the…read moresetting alone makes it worth the visit. You can climb the 98 steps if you want the full Sylva experience but it is absolutely driveable and there is a proper parking lot right beside the building, which makes your visit a lot easier. Once inside, the space feels bright and open, with the kind of modern layout that still respects the bones of the historic structure. The windows give the place a calm, airy feel, and a few of the seating areas look out over the city of Sylva that makes you want to linger a little longer. There is plenty of room to spread out, racks of books arranged neatly and a mix of quiet corners and open tables depending on what you need. I was only here briefly and did not have a chance to test the wifi, but everything else about the library suggested a well maintained and thoughtfully run library. It is the kind of place that blends history and everyday usefulness without trying too hard, and it fills like a natural fit for the old historic courthouse rather than a forced reuse of the space. This library has friendly librarians, a great variety of books, and ample parking. The books I came in for all had to be ordered from other branches in the Georgia library network. None were available, even though they were NY times best sellers.
