I can't speak for their book/dvd selection as I mainly came here to study, but their seems to be a decent variety.

However, you can drive to the top where there is parking. If you do that, you'll miss the Jackson County Confederate Memorial that is midway on the stairs. The Historical Jackson County Courthouse is a 1913 Classical Revival structure that towers on a hill above and at the end of Sylva's main street. It has served here until 1994 when the new Justice Center opened a couple of miles away. It sat unused for several years until it was refreshed and restored, reopening in 2011 as the Jackson County Public Library complex that includes the Jackson County Historical Association, the Genealogical Society, and the Arts Council. Two stories and constructed of painted brick, it has a monumental portico at the front with large classical columns and is topped with a three-stage cupola above the central block. Cowee Mountain Overlook is perhaps the most scenic and wide open overlook on the Blue Ridge…read moreParkway. I haven't been to every overlook, so I can't say that for certain. But of the BRP overlooks I have seen in North Carolina, this most certainly is my favorite. That being said, as you drive the Parkway, you will have many "new" favorites along the way. Some offer the same view from a different angle, however, sometimes the angle makes ALL the difference. For example, nearby overlooks such as Richland Balsam, Beartrail Ridge Gap, and Haywood Gap all basically have the exact same view as Cowee Mountain Overlook, but vegetation plays a huge factor in the viewing field. Other stops such as Graveyard Fields offer a hiking trail and waterfalls while Lone Bald Overlook sits directly on a mountain ridge and you can see for miles in BOTH directions. Cowee Mountain Overlook is located @ mile post 430.7, just a mile from Richland Balsam which is the highest elevation on the Parkway @ 6,053. Although Cowee is slightly less elevated @ 5,950 feet, it is superior in view. Also, since it is over a mile above sea level, I gave my wife a smooch and told her we are officially in he mile high club. Although I'm sure we don't fit the dirtier parameters of the club, we're calling it a win anyway :-) FINAL THOUGHTS When making plans to visit Asheville, Brevard or Cherokee and only have time to stop at one overlook, make it this one!!! It has the same text on both sides. It reads, "Cataloochee Trail. An old Indian path across mountains used by early settlers and in 1810 by Bishop Asbury. Trail passed nearby." The online essay has more information. "Cataloochee Trail, located in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, served as a pathway for both Native Americans and European settlers over the Appalachian Mountains. The earliest extant mention of the trail appears in 1799, and refers to the Cataloochee as a "turnpike." By that point, the Cherokee had abandoned the region, and Col. Robert Love, a Revolutionary War veteran and land speculator, had purchased the land." This is marker number P-50 and it was erected by the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources. I am not sure how many' stars to take off for inaction in relation to certain circumstances. I wrote a review for my lawyer a couple years ago. In that review, I stated that I had not reported my stepmother, Tina's, neglect of my dad and how she isolated him from me. I was scared of that thing, and I still am. How she is part of society, I do not know. She is a danger, especially to older men. A few nights after writing that review, it hit me that my husband had told me a vital fact a few months prior to writing said review. It renders the past... A few years ago, I also updated my review on Haywood Regional Medical Center. During that disturbing hospital stay, a social services rep came in and asked my dad some questions. After she left the room, my husband slipped out and told her that Tina was neglecting my dad. Nothing was ever done. I was floored when my husband told me this. By then, it was too late. Combine this with the quiet clues that we gave nurses at HRMC months before, and you will understand sorrow. (My dad was in the room as we tried circumspectly to let the nurses know what Tina was doing. It was not enough.) During another visit, a doctor said that my father needed nurses at home. I said nothing. I was afraid of my dad possibly getting angry and of Tina taking her rage out on my father. Oh, yes- Tina chased all the nurses and physical therapists away, as I later learned. One therapist actually had relatives next door to my dad's residence. It is very probable that he was issued to my dad per Haywood social services. That therapist knew how crazy Tina was, but did not report her. Nobody did. After my dad died, I finally called social services to report Tina. My first message to the wrong department was ignored. I called back, and a woman told me to call the police as if she was giving me a recipe for egg salad. I was too scared to call the police. We were all too scared or apathetic to make a great change. Tina lives on, in order to plague others. And I have to live with myself. Note: Same building houses the health department.

Macon County itself was formed in 1828 with Franklin serving as the county seat from the beginning. On a quiet Saturday morning, the courthouse building itself was well secured but the grounds were accessible and we were able to walk about easily and take our time viewing the nearby monuments without any activity around the building. The three-story red-brown brick and concrete structure reflects a modern, neo-formalist civic design. The earlier 1881 courthouse once featured a distinctive clock tower. Although that building was demolished, the cupola was saved and remains on display across the street as a reminder of the county's nineteenth-century architecture. We even managed to be here at the top of the hour to hear the bell ring off the time. Macon County was formed from the western part of Haywood County and named for stateman Nathaniel Macon. The farmstead of Noah "Bud" Ogle is preserved and visitors are allowed to walk through the log house and wander the former property. There is no charge. Ogle was an early settler in the area. He owned 400 acres (well before the land was Park) and raised corn and apples. He built the cabin in the 1880's. A mill on the property was used to grind the corn. Parking is limited, maybe twelve spaces. A parking pass is required that can be purchased at any visitors center. There is a 3/4 mile nature trail leading into the forest with spring flowers in bloom.
