We have dined here on several occasions, and it does seem to improve with age, particularly as a neighborhood destination for drinks. In warmer months, the rooftop is a genuine asset--an inviting spot for a pre-dinner cocktail or a relaxed evening out. On our most recent visit, a cold evening, we were seated immediately, a welcome efficiency that set a positive tone. The dining room's very high ceilings, while attractive, do contribute to a chill during winter months, making the atmosphere less cozy than one might hope on such nights. Service, however, was attentive and efficient throughout the meal. The bar continues to be a strong point. A well-made martini impressed my wife and was fully consistent with our prior experiences here. The French onion soup stood out as a comforting and well-executed choice, particularly satisfying on a cold night. Entrées were solid and competently prepared, though ultimately unremarkable--good, but not memorable. Overall, this is a restaurant that delivers dependable food and service without striving for distinction. While the kitchen does not reach for the extraordinary, the drinks alone make it a worthwhile stop, especially when paired with the rooftop in summer or a well-crafted cocktail at the bar year-round.

Amazingly after changing hands several times the quality and consistency remains. The rib eye rocks and baked potato with a 1/8 pound shard of butter inside is the heart attack you want. We did get a chance to visit the second and third floors which we highly recommend. The gal that answers the reservation phone number and calls you to remind you of your reservation is on the second floor. In between the phone calls, she provides some history and all sorts of really neat info about the building. What was happening during that period of time, etc. Our server was very attentive, provided excellent recommendations and was very accommodating to all our questions and needs. The food was fantastic. Everyone in our party got steak and potatoes. A few also tried the lobster tail. My favorite part was the side of mushrooms. They were the sautéd with butter and garlic - simply the best. We also had a few cocktails, which came out nice and cold and the mixed drinks were perfect. We were stuffed from the great portions, but ordered a grasshopper to sip and that was also delicious. While I don't live in the area any longer. I was super excited to try stage stop again after so many years. I'm so glad we gave it another try and equally so very happy that some of the traditions such as the giant block of butter on your table are still going strong (which by the way they will bring you a to go container to take that butter with you!)

My wife and I are celebrating lent so our food was limited as to what we could have to eat. My wife ordered shrimp quesadillas and french fries. my girlfriend and I had the steak quesadillas with wine and let me tell you it was so delicious. Great seasoning and served with salsa, guacamole and sourcream. My girlfriend husband had the patty melt and beer and it looked so good. The young women that served us was super friendly and informed us of the lunch daily special her name was Danie and I hope I got it right. She gave us a little history of the restaurant and after dinner we took a tour of the other rooms filled with stars and chefs that have visited, and the original restaurant which remains connected and in service along with a game room in the back. My wife and I thanked our friends and we will definitely be back again. Great ambiance foods and wine, i highly recommend this location if your in the area.

The warm lighting, varnished wood and fireplace created a perfect setting. Our server Kris was incredible. She was friendly and offered warm and personable service. The chefs were working so hard fixing nonstop orders of fish, fries, burgers, and tater tots for the most part. They were moving like a conveyor belt with the orders. Don't expect long conversations if you're looking for liquor paid psychiatrist work while Friday fish orders are being filled. I had the baked cod (was always my favorite) and the first time the walleye with the broccoli crunch and tater tots. Walleye reminds me of catfish. Omg, everything was a 100 out of a 10 to be honest.
